When your country is in trouble, blame the Jews

Blaming the Jews never, ever, gets old. You know who’s responsible for the Greek financial crisis? If you said the idiots who decided that a worker’s paradise wouldn’t bankrupt the state, you’re wrong! Everyone knows it’s the Jews! Listen to this batshit crazy priest on Greek national TV:

A high-level priest on the morning show of the largest television station in Greece blamed world Jewry for Greece’s financial problems on Tuesday.

I don’t know what a Metropolite is, but apparently, they don’t screen their candidates for their loving kindness to all. (I think Jesus would probably not like this guy very much, especially considering he was Jewish.) I think Mr. Metropolite is going a bit senile. This is my favorite conspiracy theory of the day:

Mixing Freemasons with Jewish bankers such as Baron Rothschild and world Zionism, the Metropolite said that there is a conspiracy to enslave Greece and Christian Orthodoxy. He also accused international Zionism of trying to destroy the family unit by promoting one-parent families and same-sex marriages.

We Zionists are so awesome. We’re living rent-free inside this joker’s head.

Thirteen minutes into the program the Greek host asked the Metropolite, “Why do you disagree with Hitler’s policies? If they are doing all this, wasn’t he right in burning them?”

The Metropolite answered, “Adolf Hitler was an instrument of world Zionism and was financed from the renowned Rothschild family with the sole purpose of convincing the Jews to leave the shores of Europe and go to Israel to establish the new Empire.”

Jews such as “Rockefeller, Rothschild and Soros control the international banking system that controls globalization,” the Metropolite also said.

Awesome. Not only do Jews control the world, but they used Hitler to destroy two-thirds of European Jewry. For what purpose, the Metropolite does not say. They never do, because it’s obvious, and nefarious. If you’re an effing Jew-hater, that is.

Can they fire Metropolites? Because this one needs to be retired to the farm. The Funny Farm.

Wednesday, briefly

High school students are uneducated: Who knew that all these years of teaching to the basic skills test, and we’re still graduating idiots? Thanks, NEA! You’re doing just swell!

The report by The Education Trust found that 23 percent of recent high school graduates don’t get the minimum score needed on the enlistment test to join any branch of the military. Questions are often basic, such as: “If 2 plus x equals 4, what is the value of x?”

(And in a moment for kvelling, my nephew, the Marine recruit, scored highly enough to pretty much name his own ticket. Of course, as a Marine, he will go where they tell him to go, and do what they tell him to do. But he’s smart. He knows the answer to the above is “x=2.” And so do I. Smart.)

Wait for the outraged denials from the Kiwis: Another Wikileak, another scandal, this one on how New Zealand overreacted to the Mossad agents in its midst in the hopes of making their Arab masters trading partners happy. Color me unsurprised.

UN Resolutions are only for Israel: The Iranians are showing their puppets the way, by unilaterally declaring that they will utterly ignore any UN commission report that says Hezbollah was behind the Hariri assassination. I’m quite sure that all those anti-Israel pundits who cited the Goldstone Commission report as evidence that Israel needed to change its behavior will be screaming to the rooftops when the Hariri report comes out. (Okay, I couldn’t even type that with a straight face.) And now there’s a report that the Lebanese prime minister is going to kick the investigators out of Lebanon. Apparently, investigations are only for Israel, too.

But really, it’s “Islamophobia” that’s the problem: Hate crimes are down overall in Los Angelese County, but guess what’s up? That’s right, anti-Semitism. The number of crimes against Muslims? Apparently, not even high enough to mention, in spite of dozens of CAIR press releases to the contrary. Hey, just remember: It’s always Jew Season.

The AP anti-Israel slant, updated

As I said, the follow-up from AP whitewashes the Palestinians.

New headline:

Palestinians, Israelis trade rockets, airstrikes

New lede:

Israel on Tuesday launched an unusually heavy series of airstrikes on Gaza in retaliation for Palestinian rocket attacks, raising the prospect of a new round of bloody fighting after a relative lull for two years.

The military said the Israeli strikes hit seven different targets in Gaza. Palestinian officials said eight militants were wounded. Then the Palestinians fired another rocket at southern Israel, lightly wounding a 16-year-old Israeli girl.

The violence followed the deaths of five Gaza militants Saturday in the deadliest Israeli assault on the coastal strip in months, indicating a trend of escalation. Two years ago, incessant rocket barrages from Gaza led Israel to launch a punishing three-week invasion that left more than 1,400 Palestinians dead, including many civilians.

New analysis: Israel’s actions were “retaliation” for 13 rocket attacks over the last two days. Still left unsaid in the article is that the deaths of the five “militants” above were caused by their crowding around a bunch of rockets that they were getting ready to fire into Israel.

We also have the AP bringing up the Gaza war, the standard boilerplate that “many” (better than “hundreds of”) civilians died in the war fought to stop the rocket attacks. Also, as soon as AP mentions that Israel is now targeting Hamas, they feel the need to explain thusly:

Although Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, has limited attacks on Israel since then, Israel holds the group responsible for all attacks from the territory. A number of smaller militant groups have continued to fire rockets and mortars.

Nothing happens in Gaza without Hamas’ permission. Rival terrorist groups don’t go to the bathroom without asking Hamas first. But the fiction is duly reported by the AP, and parroted by the anti-Israel forces. And, of course, the “violence” is also inhibiting peace efforts.

The violence added to tensions in the region stemming from the impasse in peace efforts.

Cue the “It’s all Israel’s fault” AP explanation of why there is no peace.

The U.S.-backed talks have broken down over the issue of Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank.

Of course. Because the issue of Hamastan firing rockets into Israel on a regular basis coudn’t possibly have as much of an effect on peace talks as building new apartments in the suburbs of Jerusalem. More than 200 rockets and mortars heading into Israel in 2010? Not nearly as important.

I suppose things could be worse. There could have been a weird-ass headline like this one by Reuters:

Kindergarten near-miss highlights Gaza risks.

Um—what? WTF does the one have to do with the other? Are they trying to connect the headline to this quote?

“The situation in the south is tense and fragile, and it could deteriorate if a rocket attack causes a large number of casualties,” Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi, the Israeli military’s chief of staff, told a parliamentary committee.

Because if they are, that’s about the worst headline ever, although it ranks up among the best-ever whitewashes of Palestinian terrorism against Israel. Get it? the “Gaza risks” are that if the terrorists don’t stop firing rockets, and one lands and hurts or kills a large number of Israelis, the risk is that Israel will invade Gaza again. At least, that’s all I’ve got. Anyone have any better ideas?

The AP anti-Israel slant

Here’s the story: Terrorists from Gaza have been firing rockets and mortars into Israel. They shot mortars on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They shot mortars and a kassam on Monday. The kassam rocket landed near a kindergarten as children were arriving for school—which is a typical terrorist tactic. A 14-year-old girl was injured. In total, more than a dozen rockets were fired at Israel in four days, not including the ones that were blown up when the IDF killed a rocket squad before they could send them into Israel. So how does the AP write about these attacks in its first release on the story?

Violence escalates along Gaza-Israel border

“Violence.” Rocketing civilians is “violence.”

Now, let’s parse the lede:

The Israeli air force has hit seven suspected militant sites in Gaza while the Palestinian militants sent a rocket into southern Israel in a flare-up along the Israel-Gaza border.

Note that the onus is on Israel. The AP describes the Israeli airforce as being the instigators in a “flare-up.” A kassam rocket nearly hit a kindergarten, and the AP does not mention that in the lede, nor that a girl was injured. There’s a picture at this link. UPI managed to report the information that only the Israeli press is currently reporting, and also include a picture of those “home-made” rockets.

In the rest of the AP story, note that the angle is on the Palestinians. The AP names the Palestinian quoted but attributes all Israeli quotes to “the military.” Note also that the second paragraph reports the wounding of three Palestinians but does not identify them as terrorists. The AFP managed to report that they are terrorists. Lastly, the AP uncritically reports that the IDF hit a “dairy factory.” Shades of Saddam Hussein’s baby milk factory.

Gaza health official Adham Abu Salmia says three Palestinians were wounded in the airstrikes. One reportedly was a dairy factory.

The military said on Tuesday the airstrikes targeted smuggling tunnels and a weapons-manufacturing facility. It says some of the tunnels were dug so militants could infiltrate Israel to carry out attacks.

We still haven’t found out why the IAF is bombing Gaza. And we’re already three paragraphs in. Remember that in many “World News” sections in your local paper, the first three paragraphs are sometimes all that you read. In those three grafs, we’ve learned that “violence” flared up on the Gaza border, the Israelis bombed seven terrorist sites while the terrorists only fired one rocket, and that Palestinians were hurt, but no Israelis. So, now what is the AP going to reveal?

The military also says the airstrikes were in retaliation for the firing of 13 rockets and mortars at Israel this week.

Israel Radio says the rocket fired by Gaza militants on Tuesday landed near a nursery school. No serious injuries were reported.

Ah. Now we get the reason, near the end of the article. But the really nasty bit of yellow journalism is the addition of “No serious injuries were reported,” because the writer can point to that and say that he did mention the 14-year-old girl’s injuries—just not that she was 14, running into a sheltered room from the shower, and struck by flying glass shards in her leg (also that the rocket missed a gas truck by mere yards).

It is articles like this that foster the pro-Palestinian side of the rocket and mortar attacks on Israel. This is one of the tentacles of the delegitimization of Israel, and the dehumanizing of Israelis while humanizing the Palestinians. These are the news articles that go into thousands of American newspapers, are read on thousands of American radio stations, and are researched by thousands of American television stations for the evening broadcast.

An update went out around 7:30 this morning. Here’s the lede:

The Israeli air force hit seven suspected militant sites in the Gaza Strip in an unusually large operation early Tuesday, and Palestinian militants retaliated by sending a rocket crashing down near a kindergarten in southern Israel.

Gaza health official Adham Abu Salmia said three Palestinians were wounded in the airstrikes. A 16-year-old girl told Israel Radio she was slightly wounded by shattered glass in the rocket blast.

The violence was the latest sign of escalating tensions along the Gaza-Israel border, where five militants were killed Saturday in the deadliest Israeli assault in the coastal strip in months.

Note that the AP manages to make the Israeli girl’s injury a result of the IAF bombing terrorist sites. Also that they did not name the girl, though her name is all over the Israeli media. And last, they note the killing of five terrorists, but not that they were a rocket squad, that they were about to launch rockets, and that they were proudly proclaimed as martyrs by PIJ. They make it seem, once again, that the rockets go into Israel because Israelis kill Palestinians.

The next update will whitewash the Palestinian side even further. Mark my words.

Clare Solomon and her puny 100 years of persecution

In fact, this headline is confusing, I can see it now. Clare Solomon, president of the University of London Union, is only 37 years old. You may want to say that 37 is a bit too old for a student. But you better shut up, because saying this will be ageism and as such a punishable offence in Britain.

So let’s focus on what Ms Solomon says and not on her age and/or looks, please. She says:

The view that Jews have been persecuted all throughout history is one that has been fabricated in the last 100 or so years to justify the persecution of Palestinians.

I read that and went speechless. Really, for crying out loud, what do they teach them students in Britain these days? This is so XX century one wants to cry indeed. Don’t they have enough politically correct Palestinian propag teachers in University of London? Don’t these teachers tell them that it is already for more than 2000 years, since the Crucifixion of Shahid Jesus, a Palestinian, the son of Mary the Palestinian, that these dastardly Zionists persecute and oppress the glorious Palestinian people?

I am afraid that Ms Solomon will celebrate her 47th birthday still as a student in University of London with such pitiful scholarly achievements. And then, who knows – as we Jews say, till 120…

Well, that was easy

I’m configuring my new work computer. Got it mostly set up (can’t figure out why the monitor speaker doesn’t work, but I’m pretty sure it’s because I can’t find a connection to the wire that’s sticking out of it). Transferred my Firefox profile. Will be transferring work files later tonight or tomorrow. Oh, and Tig is a happy, happy camper, as he helped. He checked out all the empty boxes and stuff.

Holy crap, this thing has a lot of USB ports. And it has a noisy keyboard. I’ll have to do something about that. I seem to be making a lot of typos with it as well. Somebody moved my keys. Also need the keyboard to be up higher. And (sigh) there’s a ton of files to transfer from my personal laptop to my old work laptop, which will be mine as soon as I give my boss a check and let the lab guys wipe the HD clean. I’m starting to think I need a bigger desk. Nah. Just a more organized one.

Tig helping

Gracie helped, too.

Gracie helped too.

And now, time to clean up and get out of here.

We are of peace, always

The Visitors return in a couple of weeks, and I, for one, welcome our rodent-eating overlords. (Or at least, I welcome the continuing series about them. In real life, ew.)

News for the new season: Jane Badler, the original series’ Diana is going to be Anna’s mother. I really, really, really hope she eats a rodent or three.

I cannot wait to see what they do with her in the new series.

Wait, wait! Marc Singer is going to be on the series, too! Oh, my. I was so in love with him in the eighties. Especially in that little loincloth he wore for Beastmaster. But really, I liked him for his mind. Honest. I swear.

Ahem. Back to the current V. Just remember: They are of peace, always. Just like the Iranians.

Sunday news roundup

Suckiest. Flash mob. Ever. Seriously, cover up the subtitles and see if you can even understand the lyrics they’re singing. Yeah, interfering with shoppers is the best idea the BDS movement has ever had. Piss off people while they’re shopping by lying about Israel! That’ll get people to join your cause.

Oh, deal with it, you annoying Jews. So an anti-Semite gets caught writing anti-Semitic remarks on Facebook, saying that Jews have only in the last 100 years made up the story of being persecuted throughout history (and yes, Clare, your ignorance is showing; you might want to cover it up just a tiny bit). So what’s her apology?

This badly worded comment was something that I wrote in haste on Facebook. I’m sorry for any misunderstandings.

I think that means “I’m sorry that I offended you with my anti-Semitic remarks, but I’m right and you’re all Jew-lovers.”

Taking bets on how long before UNRWA knuckles under: Hamas doesn’t want UNRWA taking Gaza students to the Holocaust Museum in Washington during their trip to America (a reward for being good students). Check out the reason why:

“The memory of the children of Gaza cannot withstand the suffering of all of the persecuted people around the world. The suffering caused by the Jewish occupiers is enough. Besides, the United States has no claim to human rights, as it violates them every day around the world and in its own territory.”

Yes, Hamas, the champion of human rights. I think I need say no more. The real reason, of course, is that the trip might actually open the minds of those that Hamas is trying to brainwash into hating Jews.

Don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t let the door hit you

Congress finally repealed one of the stupidest laws of the Clinton Administration: “Don’t ask, don’t tell” is gone.

It’s about damned time.

Somehow, I think the military is going to survive not being able to throw perfectly good soldiers out of the services because they’re gay.

Even the Marines.

A heads-up

New Shire Network News is coming out this weekend, and yep, I contributed a piece.

In a hurry briefs

So how did Lebanon get the technology to find Israeli spy tech again? Oh, that’s right. America gave it to them. And Hizbollah is using it to take out Israeli tech on a recurring basis, thus endangering Israelis (and Americans, because the Arabs have already murdered plenty of us, even before they were Islamists). Thanks, Obama!

Preparing for the next war: While Hezbollah and Hamas are preparing for the last war, the IDF is readying the troops to win the next one.

Thousands of soldiers and hundreds of armored vehicles dealt with simulated antitank missiles, rockets and mortar shells – as well as motorcycle-riding Hezbollah operatives. The deep mud caused by last weekend’s rain storm made the drill even more challenging.

Chipmunk Cheeks Nasrallah could not be reached for comment. He’s still hiding in his secret underground bunker for fear of assassination by the IDF.

Hezbollah—I mean Lebanese civilians—is still going after UNIFIL. Seriously, they should be renamed EUNUCHFIL, because they’re about as ball-less.

The incident took place as the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL ) patrol was conducting a GPS demarcation, the reports say

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) intervened following an alert byUNIFIL general command at the scene of the incident and resolved the situation by taking the patrol’s computer at the request of the villagers.

They let the LAF take their surveying equipment. Wow. They’re going to be so useful when Hezbollah launches the next war. As hostages.

I eagerly await the UN resolution against Hezbollah.

Kidding.

The State of the Pursuit of a Palestinian State

Those interested in the peace process as it stands today should read my piece “Palestinian Leverage” followed by my article on the Wikileaks and the Arab perspective both written in November.  The combination of factors that I note in those articles puts the Palestinians in a negotiating position that is terrible and impossible to improve any time soon, if at all. This is why the PA’s leadership is hoping that the UN will be allowed by the United States to simply make that terrible negotiation position irrelevant by granting the Palestinians the pre-1967 border without negotiations. Should the US once again veto any resolution brought forth, as will most likely be the case, the PA will be weakened for having tried this path and failed.  The PA’s negotiating position vis-a-vis Israel is in fact so bad that Abbas has spoken of a worse case scenario of turning control of the West Bank back over to Israel. But even that won’t work.

Why? Israel wouldn’t accept it and Abbas knows that.

The alternatives to PA control of the West Bank are Hamas control of the West Bank which would be worse for Abbas and the PA than they would be for Israel (that’s really bad) or anarchy which would endanger even Hamas. In either situation, Israel would be much more likely to engage militarily and then withdraw than it would to remain in full occupation. In other words, Abbas is stuck in power while lacking even the power to abdicate. He has one real choice which he is doing everything in his power to avoid making, namely to concede enough to Israel in the peace process that Israel can help him and the Palestinian people as a whole out of the current predicament. No one else can help. The process is stuck not because of Israeli refusal to make concessions, but because of Abbas’s refusal to make the concessions that must be made.

This isn’t rocket science. There is an obvious need for a paradigm shift in the thought process of the Palestinian Leadership from one of “How do we achieve what we failed to achieve in 1948?” namely to eliminate Israel or even “How do we achieve what we all rejected in 1949?” namely a state based upon the pre-1967 borders to “How do we create something resembling a state today based upon the changes that have occurred since 1948, 1967, 1973, 1993, 2000, 2005 and 2009?” which is what must be done.

The following are basic realities that have been rejected by the Palestinians thus far and will need to be taken into account for a state for the Palestinians to have a chance to come to fruition.

1. The “Right of Return” to Israel for Palestinians to Israel isn’t an option. It isn’t an act of peace, but is an act of war. Restitution is the only option for those refugees. In fact, restitution is the only option for the vast majority of refugees who would theoretically be able to return to a Palestinian state, but not to Israel (refugees from the 1967 war). Any future Palestinian state could not possibly support a dramatic increase in population for decades, if ever, so even a “return” to a Palestinian state post negotiations isn’t a viable option. To be honest, Israel couldn’t support such a bump in population either, even if it didn’t result in an immediate civil war, which it would. There will be no substantial return of refugees to either Israel or to a future Palestinian state.

2. The western, northern, and southern borders of the West Bank are not really issues, as they could be solved easily with territorial exchanges, with the exception of two issues. First, Jerusalem and second, other large Arab population centers currently within Israel. I’ll address those in a moment.

3. There is no chance that Israel could or would concede a large portion of the Old City to the Palestinians and there is little doubt that most of the residents of the Old City would NOT wish to become citizens of a Palestinian state. They are far better off as citizens of Israel and have said as much. A UN vote granting the pre-1967 border would go against their wishes. Yes, they want a Palestinian state to be created, but they do not want to live in it. This is much like those American Jews who are strong advocates for Israel but have no desire to make aliyah any time soon.

4. There is no chance that Israel could concede free and secure access to the Western Wall and the City of David for Jews which essentially means that it must maintain control over the vicinity of Temple Mount and Silwan as well as maintaining security control over the Mount of Olives to the East of the Temple Mount.

5. Israel is not going to allow the Mount Scopus Campus of Hebrew University to once again become cut off from Jews, which means that Israel will maintain a contiguous territory connecting an area North and East of the Old City with West Jerusalem, no matter what other areas it might consider allowing to become part of a future Palestinian state.

6. Places such as Um-al-Fahem, the large Arab village in the Galilee on the Israeli side of the Green Line would make some sense to place on the Palestinian side of the border after a peace agreement, but just as in #3 above, most of its residents would rather maintain Israeli citizenship than to become Palestinian citizens even though they might advocate for the creation of a Palestinian state. The PA might want this village, a prosperous Arab center, as part of the Palestinian state and no few Israeli Jews would be happy to oblige, but if the residents’ opinions matter, it will remain an Israeli city.

7. There will be significant shifts of populations after any peace agreement as settlements in the midst of a future Palestinian state will likely be abandoned. Compensation will need to be made in these cases as well. Restitution for Jews from Arab lands will be a consideration, but unless the discussions expand and become one between Israel and the Arab world, this issue would not be relevant as the Palestinians as such would have no responsibility to offer compensation to those refugees.

8. Israel cannot possibly allow either the Palestinians or an international force to control the Eastern border with Jordan. International forces have proven grossly and dangerously ineffective at stopping weapons smuggling in Lebanon, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, etc…. No Arab forces could be trusted to prevent the importation of weaponry to those whom they would almost certainly consider their allies. Hence, Israel will need to maintain supervision over the Eastern border of the West Bank indefinitely or it will not be able to make any other concessions.

9. There is no desire on the part of the Arab world to increase its Jihad, its struggle, against Israel and in fact there is significant impetus to improve relations with Israel without it resolving the conflict with the Palestinians. This is demonstrable from the Wikileaks documents.

10. Gaza cannot be a part of discussions until Hamas is removed from power because the Palestinian Authority does not speak for the people of Gaza. Current discussions should involve the West Bank alone.

11. The 1967 border was considered “noticeably insecure” and all previous discussions of UNSC Resolution 242 indicate that whatever border results from a settlement of that conflict must be secure. The understanding from the Western perspective, notably not from the Arab perspective, is that UNSCR 242 meant that Israel would not be asked to turn over all of the land captured in the 1967 war. The Arab world has always interpreted UNSCR 242 to mean exactly that Israel must turn over all of that land. The US does not believe Israel must do so, but also does not wish to define the border because to do so would undoubtedly upset the Arab world or Jewish and many Christian voters in America depending upon which side the administration chose to support. An abstention is the same as a vote in favor of the Arab side on this issue. Hence, the US has no choice but to veto and to demand that borders be settled by the two sides through negotiations. This is exactly what the US is currently doing.

12. While they may make pronouncements in the United Nations, in Arab League meetings, or to the press in general to the contrary, a final settlement of the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians is not in the interest of the United States or that of many of the Arab League nations either because of positions they would need to take at that stage or because of consequences that would almost certainly follow such as turning hundreds of thousands of refugees into citizens of their states.

There are certainly more considerations that could be listed here. I simply came up with twelve significant ones. Any discussion of peace or of the creation of a Palestinian state that does not take these factors into account, if not many others as well, is not realistic.
