Media bias? Yeah, we got that

Israel’s Comptroller’s office has determined that Israel’s response to the Marvelous Marmalade incident sucked. And here’s the all-important conclusion to the report:

Lindenstrauss concluded this part of his report by recommending a comprehensive plan to improve Israel’s public diplomacy under the prime minister’s guidance.

Gee, you think they’ve learned a bit by now? Yes, they have. But there is also the fact that world media has an anti-Israel bias, which I’ve been blogging about more than a decade. At least the AP no longer calls East Jerusalem “Arab East Jerusalem”–after repeated emails to them pointing out that the Jewish Quarter is in East Jerusalem. But they still talk about how it is “Palestinian land.” It’s an uphill battle, and Israel needs to fight it as if her life depends on it. Because it does.

Here’s the AP description of what happened in an article about the same report. It’s in the fourth parargraph of an 18-paragraph story.

Eight Turks and a Turkish-American were killed on May 31, 2010, after the commandos stormed the Mavi Marmara, which had set out from Turkey at the head of a six-vessel flotilla trying to breach Israel’s Gaza blockade.

And here’s where they finally explain that the IDF acted in self-defense. It’s paragraph 12.

The flotilla led by the Mavi Marmara tried to break through the blockade despite Israeli warnings that it would not be allowed to sail to Gaza. When commandos stormed the ship, they were attacked with clubs and metal rods, and opened fire in response.

This is the battle I’m talking about. The one the media is making sure Israel will lose. The one that is one of the reasons the world hates Israel–because the truth is not reported honestly. Need more proof? Let’s take a look at the CBS report. The lead:

An Israeli government report has sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the commando raid on an aid flotilla heading to the Gaza Strip two years ago that left nine Turkish activists dead.

The fifth paragraph finally explains Israel’s side of the story:

Israel was caught off guard when naval commandos raided the biggest ship, the Mavi Marmara, and were confronted by Turkish militants wielding knives and iron bars. The report charges that Netanyahu, “did not internalize that the forcible stopping of the flotilla was liable to spark a violent confrontation on the decks of the Mavi Marmara.”

Funny how that didn’t make it to the lead paragraph, isn’t it? Why, you’d think the media were trying to slant the news against Israel or something. But no, they wouldn’t do that.

The flotilla, which sailed from Turkey with hundreds of people on board, sought to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza, which activists described as illegal and immoral. Israel says the blockade is necessary to prevent weapons from reaching the Palestinian militant group Hamas that rules Gaza.

And to round off the report, here’s the Reuters description of IDF commandos being lowered to a deck of waiting terrorists, armed with knifes, clubs, and guns:

Israeli marines killed nine pro-Palestinian activists from Turkey during fierce brawls aboard the converted cruise ship, which, along with five other vessels, tried to breach Israel’s blockade of Gaza, a coastal enclave run by Hamas Islamists.

But don’t worry, that was all the way down in the fifth paragraph. Here’s the lead:

A state report on Wednesday criticized Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision-making in a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound Turkish ship in 2010, casting a shadow over the prime minister as he weighs action against Iran.

That doesn’t make it seem like Israel just up and attacked a ship heading to Gaza from Turkey at all, does it? Nope. Not at all.

Yes, Netanyahu and the IDF blew it on the Mavi Marvara media response. But look how the media treats the incident even now, when they have video and photographic evidence that the terrorists were armed and waiting for the IDF soldiers, and that the IDF soldiers fired in self-defense.

The good news is that the IDF has learned from this and responds quickly with evidence proving that Israel’s enemies are lying. The bad news is that Israel’s enemies also include much of the world media.

I am so tired of doing this, day in, day out, year in, year out. The anti-Israel media bias just doesn’t stop.

Late Tuesday briefs

The incitement that doesn’t exist: One more example of how the Palestinians want to live in peace with Israel. That is, if you ignore the fact that they’re teaching their kindergarteners to blow up Israelis.

The hypocrisy of the human rights protests: It’s astonishing how many times Israel has been excoriated and protested by the world’s angry youth regarding human rights issues that, well, are miniscule. In the meantime, Syria has been executing whole families, and taking great glee in murdering infants and toddlers, and there are no protests outside Syrian embassies, the heads of the Arab and Muslim nations aren’t thundering from every platform, the Turkish despot-wannabe can’t seem to find the time to talk about crimes against humanity and the Hague regarding his Syrian “brother”, and well–need I go on? Of course not. However, if those children had been killed by the IDF–well, you’d have UN resolutions galore.

I hope they all lose: OPEC is trying to set its cartel price for oil. I hope there’s some kind of major drop that screws them all over.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Really, this is the headline. Really.

Syria firestorm proving too fierce for Annan’s cooling touch

You mean like the cooling touch that stopped the Rwanda massacres? Oh. Wait.

Extremists: Some assholes claiming to be religious (probably Jews) vandalized Yad Vashem. Yes, Yad Vashem.

Some 10 other slogans of the same nature were daubed in several other areas as well, including “Israel is the secular Auschwitz of the Sephardic Jewry,” and “Jews wake up – the Zionist regime is dangerous.”

Neturei Karta and another extremist sect both deny involvement.

“These kind of slogans are beneath even the biggest anti-Semites in the world, he added. “This was probably done by the lunatic fringe – and they don’t represent anyone. These people are truly sick.”

Yeah, look in a mirror, buddy. You are the lunatic fringe.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it: Flame went up in smoke. Supposedly. I guess Obama thinks he released too much information to the New York Times last week.

Shocked, shocked to hear this: Russia is selling missile parts to Iran. Gee. I wonder why the Russians keep refusing to sanction Iran and Syria? I’m not getting it. Hm. Let me think….

I am officially a novelist

The novel is complete.

I did it.

I want to jump up and down and shout and then set off fireworks outside. But my neighbors probably wouldn’t like the last, so I won’t.

I am, however, going to go downstairs and pour myself a drink.

I’ve earned it.

Details to come. Soon!

Friday morning briefs

Censorship? Only Israel can censor journalists: Lori Marcus on how the PA has been silencing journalists for decades, particularly those that report the truth–a.k.a. negative stories–about the PA. And how western journalists are going along with their requests.

Speaking of Khaled Abu Tomeh, he asks: Where are the Moderate Arabs and Palestinians?

When was the last time an Arab parliament or prominent politician or columnist called for peace and compromise with Israel?

Good question. I think it was on the Twelfth of Never.

Well, that’s a shock: Vanity Fair published a hit piece on Sara Netanyahu. Is anyone out there surprised? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Learning the lessons of Lebanon: Tony Badran on how Bashar al-Assad is taking a page from his father’s book and working to turn Syria into an ethnic battleground like Lebanon. The Dorktator is not going to step down unless the U.S. Army is rolling into Damascus. And Reuters shows you how he’s doing it.

Stop ruining the narrative! Israelis can’t be helping Africans set up sustainable power and clean water. They are heartless bigots who hate people with dark skin that aren’t Jewish (and don’t care for the ones that are, either)!

Sick day

By this time on a normal day, Tig would have driven me crazy several times. He’d have yowled to go out on the deck during breakfast and lunch, gone over to bother Gracie, asleep in her box, yowled at me to pay attention to him and start playing, and if I ignored him, take a flying leap at the old canvas shopping bag on the floor and slid halfway across the office. He’d be crunching away on the dry food in the dish or giving me hugs because it was empty and if only he showed me how much he loved me, I would refill it (works every time). And sometimes he would just rub against my legs on his way to a spot in the corner to fall asleep.

But he’s sick. He had a bad reaction to the vaccinations he got yesterday. He barely touched his breakfast (but at least he ate, and managed to keep it down). And though he’s far less hot to the touch today than he was yesterday, he’s not quite back to normal, and he’s been sleeping downstairs all day.

Poor Tig. He’s been in this corner most of last night and today.

Tig, sick in the corner

It’s so quiet around here without his goofiness. I remember now why I got him in the first place. Gracie’s just too damned boring.

Thursday news roundup

Endgame for Assad? Russia is talking about allowing the Dorktator to live with them in exile. It’s apparently Kofi Annan’s idea, since he never met a ruthless dictator responsible for the massacre of thousands that he could hold accountable. And of course, the UN would let it happen, because they’re all about the continuity of, well, the UN. Do I think the Dorktator is going to take it? Nope. Nobody’s stopping him from murdering his people so far. Why should he?

Seriously? I mean, really? Israel says Iran is deceiving the West regarding its nuke program, and the AP, of course, brings out as biased a headline it can manage while not backing up Israel’s claims until the fourth paragraph, knowing full well that most newspapers print only three to five (usually three) paragraphs in the world news sections. The headline? Oh, it’s joyful: “Israel accuses Iran of nuclear deception”. Yeah, so does the IAEA, but that’s never noted in the headline.

Well, she started it: A grown man slaps a grown woman because he is a neo-Nazi and she is a Communist. He then runs from the police, and his neo-Nazi party releases a statement that says he was “provoked”. Because that’s what grownups do when provoked. Slap women. The good news is there will be pictures of this loser in handcuffs. Golden Dawn: The not-so-Nazi party, but hey, we slap women around when we disagree with them.

What legitimacy? See, this is what’s wrong with the UN. By granting the same rights to nations run by thugs and dictators as they do by democracies and actual republics, they grant the very “legitimacy” they then say that these horrible men lose when they start murdering their own citizens. What part of “dictator” doesn’t the UN get? And why did Bashar al-Assad lose all legitimacy in Ban’s eyes? Was it the decades-long repression of his citizens? No. The takeover of Lebanon? Nope. The constant threat to Israel? Nuh-uh. The fomenting of terror support to Saddam Hussein and Iraq while America was fighting to clear that country of terrorists? Hell, no. What tipped the regime into illegitimacy for Ban?

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says United Nations monitors were shot at trying to get to the scene of the latest Syrian massacre, charging that President Bashar Assad’s regime has lost any remaining legitimacy.

The UN chief told the General Assembly on Thursday that the unarmed observers were initially denied access to the scene in central Hama and “were shot at with small arms” while trying to get there.

Oh. Now I get it. Never mind the thousands of Syrians murdered. When this buffoon shoots at UN observers, he’s lost all legitimacy.

Out of the UN. Please.

Wednesday gloatfest briefs

And it’s Walker for the win: A eleven seven-point victory, but it was “too close to call” according to all the exit polls. Which just goes to show you: Exit polls are bullshit.

Changed your LinkedIn password: Millions of passwords were stolen. Go online and change yours now, even if you may not be in the stolen accounts. It never hurts to change your password from time to time.

His memory will be a blessing: Ray Bradbury, one of the last of the science fiction greats, died today, and our world is a little bit poorer for that. One of my favorite memories was attending the San Diego Comic Con in the 1980s–back before it grew to be the behemoth that it is and when it was mostly about, you know, comic books–and seeing Ray Bradbury and Dick Giordano among the autograph tables. The children were ignoring these two greats of comics and SF for the younger artists and comic writers. I went up to them, politely asked them to sign my program, calling them “Mr. Giordano” and “Mr. Bradbury.” I told Giordano that I’d been reading his work since I was a child, and he made some sort of joke about how that was what, last year? Then I told him that I was older than I looked, and that I was in my thirties. “In that case,” he said, “you can call me Dick.” They were warm and kind and I still treasure that program book. Fahrenheit 451 is probably his best-known work, but if you’ve never read “I Sing the Body Electric” or his other short story collections, you are missing out.

Even the Dems are pissed at Obama’s national security leaks: Yeah, leaking vital national security information so that you can pump up your ego may not be the best way to impress even your own team. The Valerie Plame affair? A big freaking deal. Screwing double agents and ruining possible intel in the bin Laden assassination and others? Hey, it’s all good, because Obama gets to say he killed bin Laden.

Meanwhile, back in Israel issues: Mahmoud Abbas is still insisting Israel accept the deal he pushes as is, no negotiation, etc., etc., warning that it may not be on the table very much longer. Good, then we can get back to negotiations. Meanwhile, the Islamist running Turkey was running his mouth again:

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan told the conference the Palestinian issue remained the “the most important problem threatening peace and stability in the region”, and said there was mounting anger with Israel over its policies.

Really? Bigger than Syria? Bigger than Sudan? Bigger than Libya, Lebanon, Iran? Really? The Palestinian problem takes precedence over all of that? Just as the unions are learning that no, Americans really don’t think that taxpayers should be footing their medical benefits and pensions, the Palestinians are learning that the world really doesn’t give a damn about their issues, because things like not being killed by Bashar al-Assad’s death squads is a far more pressing issue.

Tuesday morning political news briefs

Suck it up and pay for your own damned pensions: Scott Walker’s recall election is today, and it’s ending as ugly as it started. The unions are in full-blown panic mode, because when the government doesn’t take union dues out of your paycheck, it turns out that about two-thirds of union members don’t want to be part of that union, especially when it costs $1000 a year. Yeah, I don’t blame them. Back when I worked for the Post Office (during my college years), the only reason I joined the union was for the health care benefits.

Looks like the Obama Machine took Billy Jeff to the woodshed: A week after saying Mitt Romney has a “sterling business record,” Bill Clinton is now saying Romney would be calamitous for the country. Really? You mean, like, say, Obama was? (And props to the Rhodes Scholar for using a word that makes most Americans think, “Dude, really? Calamitous? Who talks like that?”)

Can you say, “Unjust cause”? Police stopped and handcuffed every single adult stopped at an intersection because they got a “reliable” tip that a bank robber was stopped at that red light. Effing unbelievable. What country is this, Russia?

And yet, there are no similar articles called “Gaza-christian-hate”: Get a load of not only this article, but the name given to it by the Guardians editors. They’re not even trying to hide their Jew hatred anymore. Here’s the full link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jun/04/israel-migrant-hate. Don’t bother reading the article. It’s your typical anti-Israel thing. Oh, and by the way: Thanks, jerks who are going to prison for trying to murder Eritrean refugees. Nothing like helping the world hate Israel even more than they do. Once again, I would like to ask: Where is the UNHCR on this? Why are they not creating refugee camps for the Africans in Israel, like they did for the Palestinians there and in other nations? Oh, come on, I know the answer. I’m just asking to shame them again.

They’ll probably refuse to release this one, too: The EU is conducting a survey on anti-Semitism by asking Jews for their “experiences and perceptions” about it. But don’t worry, when it turns out that Europe is fill with Muslim anti-Semites, the EU will probably refuse to release it, just like the one they did in 2004. (Yeah, I’ve been blogging a long, long time, and I remember these things.)

Monday briefs

But there is no anti-Semitism in France: A mob of Muslims armed with hammers and iron bars attacked three Jews in France. But it’s anti-Zionism, not anti-Semitism, because their kippahs identified them as Israelis. Oh. Wait. And by the way, it’s nowhere to be found on the AP. Imagine the headlines if the reverse occurred. Oh, wait. You don’t have to. Watch that story flash around the world while the French attack remains unnoticed save by the Jewish press.

More peaceful rocket attacks from Israel’s peace partner: See title.

Really? No, really? Put this one under “Keen grasp of the obvious”. Israel is rumored to be equipping its submarines with nuclear weapons. Say, how does that MAD work again? Oh, that’s right. You make sure you let the enemy know that if they fire nukes at you, you can return fire and destroy them.

The media bias strikes again: By the way, the headline about the terrorist sneaking into Israel from Gaza and murdering a soldier before being killed himself by return fire? “Clash Kills Palestinian Militant, Israeli Soldier.” Not “Sneak attacker kills soldier, is killed by return fire” or anything like that. The first paragraph sets the story, but the headline does not:

A Palestinian militant sneaked into Israel early Friday, opening fire on Israeli troops and killing one soldier, the military said. The troops fired back, killing the infiltrator in the incident that touched off fresh violence in the volatile border area, which had been mostly quiet since March.

By the way, he was found with explosives on him. But the AP doesn’t care about that. It does want to whitewash the last rocket barrage against Israel, though:

The last round of violence in March took place after Israel killed a militant leader, setting off four days of rocket barrages from Palestinian militants and airstrikes by the Israeli military.

That uptick left at least 24 Palestinians dead and disrupted the lives of about 1 million Israelis living in rocket range

All of the Palestinians killed were terrorists (except possibly one bystander, if I recall correctly). Note how the AP says Israeli’s lives were “disrupted”. Sure. Running to a bomb shelter and trying to make it there in the few seconds you have before the missile hits is a minor disruption. Happens every day, all over the world, to everyone. Oh. Wait.

Sunday, briefly

First they came for the Jews: CUNY is turning “Jewish” into a minority with a checkbox. If you’re not appalled by this, you’re not paying attention to the divisiveness that is known as affirmative action. Also, seriously? Have they no idea how freaking creepy it is that no other religion has a checkbox?

The new White/Jewish category is discussed in a report on CUNY’s Diversity Action Plan, issued last month by CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein. The plan is aimed at boosting the recruitment and inclusion of minorities.

Yes, because New York universities have such a problem attracting Jews.

Schmucks.

Man who made billions manipulating currency warns Europe that its currency is in danger: Fox. Henhouse. Oh, no, wait–he believes in the EU, so he won’t screw them over until they can survive his attack. (cf: Soros, British Pound)

Yeah, sure, and you didn’t have a nuclear plant bombed by Israel, either: The Dorktator is lying about who his responsible for the Houla massacre, but then, lying is what he does. And he keeps getting away with it because the world figured Libya was enough trouble to go to, and the Middle East is a swamp for despots, anyway. But don’t worry, Kofi Annan is really angry with Syria now. So something will definitely get done. Like it did in Rwanda under his watch.

How much do the Palestinians hate Israel? So much so that they can’t get together for the sake of their own energy needs, but we already knew that. What you may not have known is that there’s a natural gas field off the coast of Gaza that can supply their energy needs without any help from anyone. Are they pursuing it? Nope. Not since Hamas took over.

Another weekend writing

Another weekend trying to finish the novel. Over 3100 words and Chapter 13 is finally finished. There are four more unfinished chapters in various stages of incompleteness. I’m sure I can get two of them done this weekend, and I’m taking Wednesday off, so there will be another one, but it looks like it will take one more week until the book is complete.

And you know, I’m currently pretty tired of writing, having spent much of the day at it.

So I’ll stop now.

Palestinian terrorists show their gratitude for peace gesture by killing Israelis

On the heels of Israel returning the bodies of terrorists to the Palestinian Authority, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist managed to murder an IDF soldier.

The exchange began after the militant cut through the fence separating the Hamas-run Gaza Strip and southern Israel. The militant started shooting, prompting Israeli troops to respond, said Col. Tal Hermoni.

“The forces worked quickly and prevented a larger attack against the civilians in the area,” Hermoni told Army Radio.

Oh, and the soldier wasn’t the target. He wasn’t supposed to die. It was a kidnapping attempt. Or maybe just a terrorist heading for civilians.

Golani Staff-Sergeant Netanel Moshiashvili, 21, from Ashkelon, was killed Friday in a clash with a Palestinian terrorist, near Kissufim.

The Islamic Jihad initially said that it was one of its operatives who infiltrated Israel, but later recanted the statement. The terrorist’s mission is believed to have been the abduction of an IDF soldier.

The attack was followed by rockets from Gaza.

By the way, that “peace gesture”? Returning the terrorist bodies? The PA is really stoked about getting their killers back.

Among the guests were also Hamas members and prisoners released as part of the Shalit deal. The terrorists’ relatives hailed the martyrs and members of Hamas’ military wing. They also spoke out against Israel and cried “One million martyrs march to Jerusalem.”

“Until now, the martyrs were numbers to the Zionists and now they will revert to names of heroes,” one Palestinian said.

The terrorists’ coffins were covered in Palestinian flags and placed in the Mukataa’s central square. The seven terrorists who carried out the Savot Hotel attack in Tel Aviv in 1975 were given a special honor.

There will never be peace with the Palestinians as long as they consider mass murderers of Jews their “heroes.” At best, there will be two states living side by side in a cold peace, with the occasional attempted or successful terror attack from “Palestine” into Israel.

Flame on! news briefs

Angry Flame: The creators of Flame used the same programming language as did the creators of Angry Birds. It’s really not all that big a deal, and reflects more on the language (it’s easy, that’s why they used it) than on Angry Birds, but you have to admit–it’s funny.

Good: Tel Aviv is cracking down on anti-migrant violence.

Two years later, Turkey is still lying: Today is the second anniversary of the Marbles Mimbletonia “massacre”–the one where terrorists attacked IDF soldiers in mobs and were killed in self-defense, and Turkey is still lying about it. Unbelievably, Israel is offering compensation to the “victims” of the Mavi Marmara incident–which Turkey refused. Meanwhile, this is what a massacre really looks like: One in which whole families were murdered, and half the victims were children.

Bias for thee, but not for me: Michael Moore can present utterly biased films and call them documentaries, but when conservatives do it, the wire services get their panties in a bunch over the bias. But even in their slamming of the film, they can’t hide its legitimate purpose:

Horowitz and co-director Matthew Groff play games with content, their choice of interview subjects and the facts as they try to hide their agenda in this film, which was shot in 2008, premiered in 2009 but is only now shoved into theaters in an election year. They hurl waves of randomly selected and undated TV news allegations (by the likes of Lou Dobbs) against the U.N. They’re slow to identify their many expert witnesses, some of whom are more credible than others. They bury their best, most credible experts into the final third – Jody Williams, who worked for the U.N., bore witness to the horrors of Darfur, and then was chastised and discredited by Syria, China, Algeria and other countries worried about the precedent that preventing a genocide there might mean to their own autocratic and anti-human rights policies.

Uh-huh. Go ahead and bash as many “conservative think-tanks” as you like, the facts remain: The UN is a bastion of waste, thuggery, and anti-democratic dictatorships criticizing and ruling over democracies. When Canada is attacked by its so-called “hunger expert” as he readies his sights on the pressing problem of hunger in the USA, instead of, say, Yemen. 300,000 children starving in Yemen? Clearly, not as important as bashing Canada for its widespread hunger problem. What’s that? You never heard that Canada had a hunger problem?

Shyeah. Defund it. Leave it. What good is it doing that can’t be done by a different body, made up of democracies only?
