Jews pray in Jerusalem; Arabs riot

What happens when Jews try to pray at their holy sites in Jerusalem on their holidays? Why, the tolerant Palestinian Muslims try to kill them. And the head of the Palestinian Authority, the ostensible Israeli peace partner, talks about not letting Jews “Judaize” Jerusalem.

The Jews’ role in Jerusalem? Well, that’s been played down by the two child religions since, well, since they grabbed a foothold in the area. Oh, you have people like Jimmy Carter referring to Israel as “the Holy Land,” paying lip service to the fact that his religion grew out of Judaism, but when push comes to shove, he jumps on the Palestinian bandwagon regarding the “Judaization” of Jerusalem. The 3,000-year history of Jews in Jerusalem? Meaningless, because the Jews left. Or at least, the Palestinians took it over. Or something. Jordan annexed it in 1949? Hey, nobody actually objected to the Jordanian destruction of Jewish synagogues, holy sites, and cemeteries. The eastern part of Jerusalem has been proclaimed “Arab east Jersulem” by all and sundry, in spite of the fact that the Jewish Quarter lies smack inside of “Arab” east Jerusalem. And now, the wire services are helping the Palestinians call for the Islamization of Jerusalem by denying the Jewish history of the city.

The Palestinian statement also took aim at controversy over Jerusalem, and condemned what it called a plan by Jews to “perform religious rituals” in a compound containing the al-Aqsa mosque, Islam’s third holiest site.

“The Palestinian cabinet calls on all international, Arab and Muslim elements to take responsibility for the developments in Israel and force it to put off its attempts to take over Jerusalem and Judaize it,” the statement read.

Reuters can barely bring itself to mention that Jerusalem houses Judaism’s Holy of Holies, or that it is the site of the First and Second Temples, or that it is the physical heart of Judaism, always was, and always will be. This is how Reuters describes Jews’ connection to Jerusalem:

Palestinians have warned that the tensions flaring over access to a holy compound housing the al-Aqsa mosque, an area also revered by Jews as the site of an ancient temple, could, on the background of stalled peace talks, ignite a third uprising.

And this:

Violence in Jerusalem flared on Sunday after Israel briefly shut gates leading to the compound around al-Aqsa, known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and to Jews as the Temple Mount, citing concerns for possible violence as hundreds of Jews held holiday prayers at the adjacent Western Wall.

The riots in Jerusalem over the last few days happened because Jews were exercising their right to pray at the Western Wall, and Palestinians decided that was cause to try to kill Jews. The Palestinians use the pretext of religious freedom by saying that they are prevented from praying at Al-Aqsa. But what they don’t mention are facts like these:

Earlier Monday, Jerusalem police explained their decision to allow only worshipers over the age of 50 into the Temple Mount, revealing that wheelbarrows filled with rocks had been discovered throughout the Aksa Mosque compound on Sunday.

Palestinians had filled the wheelbarrows with stones and bricks in preparation for riots in the Old City, police assessed.

The discovery of the wheelbarrows, in addition to intelligence information and the call on Palestinians to “come and defend” Al-Aksa, led the police to restrict entrance to the Temple Mount.

When you read about wheelbarrows full of stones, please don’t make the mistake of thinking these are gravel-sized rocks. They are brick-sized rocks, big enough to kill, and remember that the Arabs launch them from above, down on the Jews worshipping below. The missiles are potentially lethal.

And remember, if you will, why the Muslims are rioting: Because Jews dared to pray on their holy sites in Jerusalem. The Muslim narrative denies all Jewish ties to Jerusalem.

“No one has rights to the Al-Aqsa Mosque other than the Muslims. The mosque compound is Muslim, Palestinian and Arab, and Israel has no rights to the mosque or East Jerusalem,” he said

Archeological evidence notwithstanding, you’d think the morons would at least acknowledge that Islam is an offshoot of Judaism. But of course, that would be too much for Ra’ad Salah’s tiny little brain to handle.

I think Israel has the right leader, at the right time, for what is happening today. And then, of course, there’s the backing of a Certain Someone who is a bit more powerful than even the world media. I have three words for the Muslims: Am Yisrael chai.

Deal with it.

Update: Linked by Yahoo! News, 31 comments pending in the queue, and only 12 of them are anti-Jewish or anti-Israel. Must be a slow Jew-hate day.

Update two: I’m approving most of the comments, but I should like to point out to the stupidest of my commenters that when Yahoo! News links to something with the heading “Blogs about this story,” that means you’re on a blog. Not a newspaper. Not a magazine. I am not a journalist, nor do I play one on TV, so those of you whining that I’m not objective, let me ask you something my brother used to ask as a child: Are you dumb, stupid, or all three?

Update three: This is my favorite comment so far. You rock, Yectla. And are hereby designated an Apprentice of Juvenile Scorn.

  3. I was a volunteer (mitnadvim) in Israel during the 6 Day war and fell in love with the place and people.
40 odd years later, I cry, for it has become much like my own home country was before real Democratic Independence in 1994 South Africa!

Below is an extract of a long and sorrowful poem I wrote in 1978 and which includes two stanza’s related to my grief.

… and the victims of your avarice
fall like chafe before the scythe,
as you trample through their suffering
    heedless of their cries.
… and you reap a ravished harvest
in the conquests you pursue …
as you crush the weak and weary,
    leaving scars across their lives!
… and the profits in your coffers … lie tarnished,
like their blood upon the sand.
… and the jewels of your emporium,
are the lives of those betrayed.
Tho’ you’re blind to their accusing,
your guilt has soiled your hands!

… and the wild men all around you –
    like wolves around their prey,
curse your birthright and revile your bloody name!
    For you abuse their labor…
and treat them less than slaves.
… and the crumbs of your fulfillment –
humiliates their hunger, as it falls amongst their graves.
    What use are your achievements,
if the sword of your success …
    destroys the source of gain?
    Tread warily in broad daylight,
walk naught about at night …
for the sons of your destruction,
seek revenge for their fathers’ shame.

In the modern era you just cannot simply base on the history to lay claim that the land is
yours. For me, the jews cannot simply come to Palestine and tell them the land belong to them
since it was written in the history book. In that case the Indians in North America also
can lay claim on American soil as they are the first one to own the land and so as the Abronigines
in Australia. I lived in a multi racial country where there is muslim, christian, buddist an
hindus, but we can live together as neighbour in one community and share each festive joy. The
points is, we must respect each other religions and there should not be any discrimination.
Whatever your religion is, god always told u to become nice to other people and even to animals.
If the jews and the palestinians want to live in peace, they should try to respect each other
first and the jews should help to developed the Palestine as they developed Israel.

You are so horrifyingly intolerant and a disgrace to all who practice revealed religions. To call Islam and Christianity

Remove hardstone in your heart. If God says “forget and forgive” why not think about it. There is only one God,and God is watching us.
If Berlin Wall was done to be united, why Arab and Israel can’t think about it?
God never says “kill anyone who’s not Islam”.Or never join anyone who’s not same religion.

  8. wish to opine says:

I agree with comment number 2.

Christianity is from Judaism, true. That is why the Jewish people and Christians should stand together. The Judaism practiced by Jewish people today is Rabbincal Judaism not Biblical Judaism. There are many things in the Torah that Jews do not practice but God commands. That is why Jesus is our kofer (ransom) just like the prophets all prophesied about. Completed Jews not forsaken Jews.

  9. Kwabena says:

Spot on, everything you say is true. I have no problems with how you have said it. The devil is a liar, the militant Islamists are his children, hence they lie. Palistine is a political fabrication that will never become a nation. Read the the word of God, then you will know. Trust me what the JEWISH prophets have written about the land of Yisrael has, is and will come true. The Arab illegal immigrants and earlier muslim conquerers simply want to steal what is not theirs. Arabia is big end rich enough, the best thing they can do is go back to where they come from.

Muslims don’t object to any non-muslims from visiting the mosque, they object to Zionist Jewish and Christian Zionist political groups from visiting there who just want to make a statement and who want to destroy the mosque and rebuild the temple. Remember there was a crazy Christian Zionist who tried to burn down the mosque in 1968, so their fear is legitimate.

  15. Martha says:

All I have to say about it, is that the Jews were here long before the Muslims. They ARE God’s people, have been for a long time, and WILL BE until the end of time, and long after that. Pamela, you are right when you made the comment that the Big Guy said, “Don’t mess with my people”.

  16. Charles says:

The Arabs never give up, do they?

  17. Michael says:

Don’t think that Jimmy Carter is indicative of all or most true Christians. I am a Christian and I support Israel’s right to worship at their holy sights. So do most of the Christians I know, because this is what Jesus and Scripture would have us do. To support the Jewish people, the children of Israel and God’s chosen people. My prayer is for Israel to regain all of their holy sights, and for Jews and Christians to live in peace together.

  18. Israel needs to expel all of the Arabs who live within 2 KM of the Holy Temple Mount, otherwise there will be perpetual warfare between the two sides. The Holy Land belongs to the Jewish People, and no one else. If Christians wish to occupy any space within this land, they need to observe Jewish law, the same holds true for any Moslem who resides within the same area. If any Moslem comes into Germany and started this type of nonsense, I can assure you all, as peaceful as the Germans are today and as tolerant as we have been within the last 50 years, we would rise up and kill every Moslem. This is not a blood lust on our part, but it simply is for our protection. This is our spiritual homeland. Israel is the homeland for all of the Jews worldwide. This is their spiritual homeland and as such they have every right to protect it with everything at their disposal. If that means expelling all of the Moslems, so be it. If it means killing them, Let the Lord God direct them to do so.

  19. Ken Sears says:

“The 3,000 year history of the Jews in Jerusalem?”
    Very conveniently skewed, Meryl.
Try and keep a straight face when you ask Palestinians living in refugee camps to care that your ancestors “owned” this land 2,000 years ago when you’re living in the houses they and their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents owned fifty years ago, before you threw them out.
I know that, after that statement, you will assume I’m an anti-Israel leftist or something. You would be surprised (and I suppose you probably won’t believe) how sympathetic to Israel I am in general.
But “sympathy” doesn’t mean blanket approval. If it were MY house, and my parents’ and grandparents’, etc., and you were living in it, I can tell you I wouldn’t give two cents for your argument that “this is okay, because ancestors of mine lived here thousands of years ago.”
Come to think of it, you wouldn’t give two cents for that argument, either, if the tables were turned. It’s not a real-world argument.
In fact, if you wanted to pursue that line of argument further (the land belongs to whoever was here first), then I suppose it belongs to the Palestinians, since they are likely the descendants of Philistines who were there BEFORE the Israelites came and took over. How far back do you want to go, Meryl?

  20. Mark says:

The Arabs need to quit being so assinine and start thinking about religious tolerance. But in all honesty so do the other religions. There is no place in this world for such childish behavior. But unfortunently I am a definate minority. After 21 years in the military I have seen all manner of stupidity. So I close with: BOTH SIDES GET OVER YOURSELVES AND QUIT SCREWING WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD WITH YOUR POINTLESS RIVALRIES!!!

  21. Salvatore says:

Please don’t make the mistake of messing with GOD’S Chosen People. “I will bless those who bless you and I will curse those who curse you” this is according to Genesis 12:3. I take this literally as a direct warning from the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

  22. Anti-israel American says:

Judaism, islam, and christianity are all fabricated frauds and are NOT religions. There is only one true religion and that is the study of God through Creation. There is NO other god. Certainly no jehovah or jesus god. All lies. Pray all you want to. The real God of Nature has a future plan of human eradication of all “religious” lies. The rest of us can’t wait. Like the dinosaurs of the past stupid humans with stupid ideas will also be wiped off this planet. All of us… And it will come quicker thanks to ‘religious’ whackos of all types. This world would be a better place to live if only there was no such thing as fabricated religions to lead all of us astray, especially the idiots of the middle east.

  23. Don Johnston says:

I appreciated your ‘to the point’ letter. It is the truth that sets men free, and the truth is hard to come by these days, so thanks for helping to set the record straight. The day is coming when God will set everybody straight and there will be not editorializing, arguing, or rewriting of history. True history is His-story and He will have the last word…and according to Bible prophecy, Jerusalem will be the capital of the world and Israel will dwell safely and supremely in their land with the extended borders originally promised to Abraham and his descendants. Those are the facts! All my have their opinions, but only One opinion matters, and HE has made His determinations very clear for all who will humbly hear and read it in the Bible.

  24. L says:

It’s amazing how few people actually know the real history of Israel. All the Jews did not leave after the Romans expelled them. In fact, there was a vibrant community of Jews/Israelis in Jerusalem since before the Roman times. Additionally, no Arab country wanted them in 1948 which is what created this situation in the first place. Not to mention the countless wars that were launched on Israel, not vice-versa.

In addition, LOVE the comment about “remember this one guy in 1968″…how about remember that one suicide bombing or twenty on a bus that goes throughout all the neighborhoods in Jerusalem.

I agree with your post, it was spot on. I’m tired of pro-Palestinian statements and attitudes that have nothing to do with reality. If you have a problem with how Palestinians live, GO THERE! Volunteer in their communities and help them. Help liberate them from the strangleholds of Hamas! Why doesn’t anyone wonder why Arafat died a billionaire while his people starved???!!!

  25. Yectla says:

Thanks, Ken, for the history lesson. Jews are thieves, liars and cheats. They are bullies and murderers. The Jewish hypocrites claim to do so in the name of God? Didn’t God ask us all to love thy neighbor as thyself? And, since the Jews wrote the bible, of course it was written to support the Jewish point of view — isn’t it the way it has always been with the lying, cheating Jews? So, if really bad things happen to all of them, very very good — after all, it is an eye for an eye, isn’t it?

  28. Pamela says:

    Afternoon Everyone

Looks like it has been an interesting day.

Daniel-People have told me on numerous occasions that I am too direct and down right blunt. There are times when sweet coatings on words diminish the impact of what needs to be said. It’s a grab the throat moment and listen carefully. Bitter truths hit hard and stick.

Big Guy Upstairs made a Covenant with the Jews. They are Guardians of that Covenant.
Nothing will change that, no amount of hate, blood spilled or lives lost.
Through time, down the line, Jews kept the word and guarded the faith.

Though some would eradicate any and all history of the original Covenant thinking if they manage to do so, they can slip on in and take the place as the Chosen People. “See See, Big Guy loves us best. We can do anything in his name now.”

I just wonder when Big Guy is going to deliver the first in a series of much needed lessons.

Now, I need to take the catnip away from one of the cats. She’s got the bug-eye happening and a nap is in order.

    Have a good evening.

  29. H. Yo'el says:

Talk about a lot of interesting subjects here. We forget that much of secular history is in concordance with the Biblical account, not because of the Jewish people but because of the historical happenings. Jews owned this piece of real estate long before the Arabs came into existence with their own intepretation of the Bible and of the Land. Islam began around the 5th-6th century AD. Many ignore the history of this nation and that of those around them. Israel ceased to exist due to the opposition to the Roman empire in AD 70. It was left desolate for centuries. The Arabs, as crafty as they are, began populating the area, like they are doing in Europe, and after Muhammed tried to erase the fact that Israel once existed. They forget that it was through the influence of Roman Catholicism that the crusades took place. The Roman/Catholic system has always played many for fools including the Arabs. Just as this happened, now they want to do away with the Holocaust but present themeselves as “victims.” Israel has been the constant scapegoat in history. They have had to defend themeselves from invaders, retaliate for acts commited against them. How about this: When Ramadan rolls in, we should throw stones and bricks at the worshippers at the Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock as they pray. You think they will just be quiet and let it happen? Is this how they want to convert the world to Islam? Is this how they show respect for othe religions and faiths? Is this the so called “Religion of Peace?” On the contrary, we only see their hatred and complete disrespect to other human beings that disagree with their twisted sense of humor and entertainment. As for Jimmy Carter, he just goes where the money is. He sells himself to the highest bidder.

  30. Ken Sears says:

Still haven’t seen a single argument that answers the question why it’s right for Jews whose great-great-greats, thousands of years ago, lived in Israel, to confiscate the lands and houses of Palestinians who have been living there NOW, for the last few centuries. The great-great-greats of the Jews aren’t worried about getting their houses back, and I’m sure they aren’t worrying about them! The old and not-so-old people stuck in refugee camps, while immigrants from New York live in their homes, definitely do care, however. What the Jewish people has had to to through, in particular the Holocaust but so much more, too, is dreadful beyond words. But there’s no logical connection between that and the expropriation committed so unjustly in the last fifty years. There’s no biblical basis in the least, for Christians, to cheer behavior in the Jews that we would condemn in ourselves. There aren’t two kingdoms, there aren’t two brands of “right”, there aren’t two Gods. At the end of the day, we’re ALL sinners, and nobody’s an exception. And the Knesset isn’t the Kingdom of God.

  31. Jews have lived in Israel in an unbroken line of descent since Biblical times. The modern state of Israel may have been “granted” by the UN after the Holocaust, but the state was never the UN’s to give. You call yourself a Christian and deny the Jewish right to the land? Fine. Then look at the archeological evidence. Hebron had a strong Jewish community until 1929, when Arabs, spreading a lie that Jews were attacking al-Aqsa, rioted and murdered dozens. The British, ever the assholes, removed not the Arabs who rioted, but the Jews, who did nothing—from Hebron. Today’s narrative: Hebron is “Palestinian,” because there were no Jews there when Israel took it back in 1967.

Funny how you manage to overlook all evidence that proves Jewish ownership of the land (Jews exist today who lived in Hebron; I don’t see you insisting that they be given back their homes and property), yet manage to find anything evidence enough of Palestinian claims. Sort of like the Goldstone Report manages to condemn Israel while insisting that it can’t find any credible evidence that Hamas hid within the civilian population, even though there’s photographic proof of it.

You don’t want an answer to your question. You want to continue in your blind insistence that Jews don’t belong in Israel. But here’s a simple answer: The UN partitioned the British Mandate of Palestine into two states, one for Arabs, one for Jews. The Jews accepted the partition and celebrated. The Arabs refused, and tried to murder all of the Jews. They lost. Israel won. The world is full of the victors of wars keeping the land that they won (or in this case, won back). Why is it that the world allows Russia to keep part of Georgia—which happened only in the last year or so, and yet, Israel is still vilified for the result of the 1948 war? What’s the difference between the two examples?

    Gee. Let’s think.
