Wednesday finally got around to them briefs

Seriously? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? The Dorktator is disavowing having any control over his own armed forces–you know, the ones that are torturing and murdering children. Here’s the best bit of the interview:

“We don’t kill our people … no government in the world kills its people, unless it’s led by a crazy person,” ABC quoted Assad as saying.

One word for you: Mirror.

The demographic threat, debunked–again: People keep insisting that even if the Palestinians get a state of their own in the terrortories [sic], Arabs will outnumber Jews in Israel proper, eventually. Yeah, not so much.

An early Christmas present for Iran (and China!): Yes, two nations with very few Christians, but they have an American stealth drone to play with. The Danger Room says it’s not the best and brightest, but it will help China move forward with its own [stolen technology] drone program.

Awesome. There is no other word for it: Saudi Arabia says it’s thinking about starting its own nuke program. North Korea needs money, they have money, it’s a done deal, practically. Watch for it.

The “mostly quiet” border: Schoolchildren in southern Israel have had their trips cancelled due to terror alerts. But Karl Vick considers this irrelevant. Hamas has “mostly” kept the truce. Gee, I thought they were getting more moderate and peaceful. Or maybe Vick is delusional.

The earth-shattering kaboom did some heavy damage: The Times reported that the missile base in Iran that went boom is leveled, and that it set back the Iranian long-range missile program heavily. And let us all say: Amen!

About our damn table manners

It is with a sense of increasing wonder that I have been reading the CNN story where U.S. Defense Secretary urges Israel to get back to the [damn] table. It was my damn understanding that the damn table was offered to our damn partners for more than two damn years, with or without damn freeze on the damn settlements, and damn me if I understand what damn Mr Panetta expects the damn Israel to do right damn now. Short of getting up onto that table and performing an enticing belly dance, of course, which measure may be the last ditch effort to get our partners closer.

As for this:

Panetta said Israel could “reach out and mend fences” with countries such as Turkey, Egypt and Jordan, countries he said share an interest in stability in the Middle East.

I know that we are currently doing more than just mending fences with Egypt – we are even building a damn long brand new fence on Egyptian border, fully expecting that with the soon-to-come brand new government of Egypt, full of fundies that don’t recognize Israel and want to rescind the peace treaty, we shall need that fence and much more on that damn border.

Re Turkey: it shouldn’t take a person of such extensive experience in intelligence as Mr Panetta (three years or so as a lieutenant in that oxymoron called Military Intelligence and more than two years as CIA chief) to know that the current PM of that country is hell bent to destroy the last vestige of normal relationships with Israel and that he planned this from his day one in the office. No matter how many “gestures” we make at Turkey and how extravagant these gestures are, Mr Erdogan has chosen his course long ago and isn’t going to change it anytime soon.

“If the gestures are rebuked, the world will see those rebukes for what they are — and Israel’s moral standing will grow even higher. And that is why Israel should pursue them,” Panetta said.

While being quite straightforward with that damn table, Mr Panetta has chosen a roundabout way of conveying this part of his message. Let me see: if Bibi (for example) travels all over our neighboring capitals and allows each local chief to publicly deliver a swift kick or five at his posterior – will it raise our damn moral standing high enough? Just asking…

Well, I know that the answers to my confusion are not coming anytime soon, so I shall just display that confusion image for now:

P.S. There is at least one positive outcome from reading this damn CNN article: I now have a permanent frustration image for future use:

Yup.

Sunday afternoon briefs

Hamas is fleeing the fall of Damascus: The rats are fleeing the sinking ship. Hamas has pulled most of its staff out of Damascus. This is excellent news. A terror organization in disarray is a terror organization that is hampered in planning terror attacks. And Hamas is looking for a new home. May they have no luck at all in finding one outside Gaza.

Hamas would keep a skeletal presence in Syria to “book a seat in a post-Assad era,”” one diplomat said.

“Meanwhile, Hamas officials are on planes most of the time, bolstering ties with other countries like Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Sudan, or in contact to explore new bases and not a sole base,” the diplomat added.

Arabs tend to have long memories. I don’t think the Syrians are going to forget how tight Hamas was with the Dorktator.

What, you mean it’s not okay to blame Israel for Arab anti-Semitism? The Obama administration is hurrying to disavow its ambassador’s words to a Jewish conference, where he said that Muslim anti-Semitism can be blamed on Israeli actions (like building settlements and not making peace with the Palestinians). And why is the administration backing off? Because of the reaction, not because of the words. Leon Panetta said essentially the same thing, in longer form. Only he blamed Israel for all the ills of the Middle East, basically.

Well, if the West armed the rebels, history wouldn’t repeat itself: Now the media is referring to the destruction of Hama during the 1980s, Syria’s last uprising, and saying that history is repeating itself. Not really. I no longer think Baby Assad will survive the Syrian uprisings. I think if he were going to massacre tens of thousands in a few short days, he’d have done so. It isn’t that he hasn’t got the will. I believe he does have it. But apparently, the world will no longer turn a blind eye to that kind of violence. At least, not in the Middle East, and not today. Darfur? Nobody cared. Rwanda? Puh-leeze.

The dual-loyalty charge, alive and well in the U.K.: So you’re a Labour member of Parliament, the more progressive party, the tolerant ones who believe in multiculturalism and all people being equal and human rights for all. But of course, there’s something known here as The Exception Clause, where we add the words “except for Jews” to statements like that, and you then can understand why this so-called liberal, progressive M.P. charged that Britain’s first Jewish ambassador to Israel can’t be loyal to the U.K. because he’s a Zionist.

Britain needed, he said, “someone with roots in the UK [who] can’t be accused of having Jewish loyalty”.

No, there’s no truth to the charge that anti-Semitism in polite society is growing by leaps and bounds.

Ah, the gullible, gullible AP

Egypt’s victorious Muslim Brotherhood told the AP they’re not going to impose “Islamic values” on non-Muslims.

“We represent a moderate and fair party,” el-Erian said of his Freedom and Justice Party. “We want to apply the basics of Shariah law in a fair way that respects human rights and personal rights,” he said, referring to Islamic law.

Sure they do. Egyptian Christians? Hey, they’re just going to have to wear the hijab outside the comfort of their own home. And not build any new churches. I totally believe the Brotherhood when they say they’re all about moderate, fair Islamism.

“We respect all people in their choice of religion and life,” he said.

Really?

Muslim Brotherhood spokesmen, as well as Palestinian guest speakers, made explicit calls for Jihad and for liberating the whole of Palestine. Time and again, a Koran quote vowing that “one day we shall kill all the Jews” was uttered at the site. Meanwhile, businessmen in the crowd were urged to invest funds in Jerusalem in order to prevent the acquisition of land and homes by Jews.

Throughout the event, Muslim Brotherhood activists chanted: “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgment day has come.”

That’s a perfect example of the respect of the Islamists for people who choose Judaism as their religion and life. The Egyptian people are not far behind them, thanks to decades of anti-Semitic broadcasts and news articles by the Mubarak-controlled media. Does anyone else remember “Horseman without a horse“, the 30-part Egyptian series based on the infamous forgery, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion? It was a 30-part series shown during the month of Ramadan, when it would have its biggest television audience of the year due to the holiday. And it was shown in spite of protests to the Mubarak government, which utterly controlled the media.

So sure, AP. Go ahead, publish your uncritical acceptance of the Muslim Brotherhood’s lies. What would this blog be without the AP to kick around?

The official Obama Israel policy: It’s Israel’s fault

Two articles in Ynet quote two different members of the Obama administration that essentially blame Israel for all of the diplomatic problems and isolation Israel suffers.

First, Leon Panetta, Obama’s Defense Secretary:

“I understand the view that this is not the time to pursue peace, and that the Arab awakening further imperils the dream of a safe and secure, Jewish and democratic Israel. But I disagree with that view,” Panetta said.

How nice of him to disagree that Israel needs to be worried about Jew-hating Islamists that are taking over Egypt and other nations in the Middle East.

Once again, we get the tired old saw that Israel needs to “take risks” for peace.

He said Israel needed to take risks, including by breathing new life into moribund peace talks with Palestinians. When asked by a moderator what steps Israel needed to take to pursue peace, Panetta said: “Just get to the damn table.”

“The problem right now is we can’t get them to the damn table, to at least sit down and begin to discuss their differences,” Panetta said.

Not a word about the Palestinian refusal to sit down with Israel. Not a word about Mahmoud Abbas needing to take risks, or at least, responsibility, for not negotiating with Israel since, oh, Barack Obama took office.

Panetta said that while Israel is not solely responsible for its isolation, it could more actively attempt to reverse the trend: “For example, Israel can reach out and mend fences with those who share an interest in regional stability – countries like Turkey and Egypt, as well as Jordan,” he said.

Israel did reach out and try to mend fences. Turkey demanded an apology for the Mavi Marmara incident, the complete opening of the Gaza blockade–which would allow Hamas unlimited access to weapons–and financial compensation for the dead jihaidis. Israel was ready to say they were sorry the jihadis died (but not apologize), give the compensation, and not open the border. Turkey refused. It was all or nothing. So how, exactly, is Israel supposed to mend fences with a country that refuses to compromise? The same way, I suppose, that Israel can bring the Palestinians to the table–by surrendering. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Next up, the American ambassador to Brussels, an Obama appointee, told a Jewish conference that Arab anti-Semitism is not Jew hatred. No, it’s a reaction to Israeli policies.

A distinction should be made between traditional anti-Semitism, which should be condemned and Muslim hatred for Jews, which stems from the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, Gutman said. He also argued that an Israeli-Palestinian peace treaty will significantly diminish Muslim anti-Semitism.

Really? So, the Hamas charter, which contains references to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, is not traditional anti-Semitism, but an understandable reaction to the existence of Israel? Good to know.

Thankfully, the attendees had speakers with common sense immediately afterward.

The conference was attended by Jewish lawyers from across Europe. The legal experts at the event were visibly stunned by Gutman’s words, and the next speaker offered a scathing rebuttal to the envoy’s remarks.

“The modern Anti-Semite formally condemns Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust and expresses upmost sympathy with the Jewish people. He simply has created a new species, the “Anti-Zionist” or – even more sophisticated – the so-called ‘Israel critic,’” Germany attorney Nathan Gelbart said.

The ambassador, like Obama, lives in a world that does not really resemble ours.

Approached by Yedioth Ahronoth, the US envoy was asked whether Obama’s policy did not cause America to lose its influence in the region. Gutman responded by saying that the Arab world appreciates Obama following his speech in Cairo, referring to an address delivered by the president in 2009.

Yes, it totally appreciates Obama. It’s thanks to his policies that Islamists are running rampant in Egypt today, and dream of killing all the world’s Jews tomorrow. But that’s in reaction to Israel’s policies.

Speakers at the event delivered impassioned, hateful speeches against Israel, slamming the “Zionist occupiers” and the “treacherous Jews.” Upon leaving the rally, worshippers were given small flags, with Egypt’s flag on one side and the Palestinian flag on the other, as well as maps of Jerusalem’s Old City detailing where “Zionists are aiming to change Jerusalem’s Muslim character.”

Peter Wehner wondered recently if Obama’s claims about being the Most. Pro. Israel. President. EVAH! are delusional or deliberately lying. I’m going to go with delusional.

Update: And a timely essay on Muslim anti-Semitism and the reflexive blaming of Israel, by Richard Landes. H/T: Elder. (And check out this comment for the unadulterated anti-Semitism of a reader who sees no irony whatsoever in posting his bile on this article.)

Lazy Saturday Red Solo Cup post

VERY funny new song (and video) from Toby Keith.

Here’s a who’s who of the cameos.

And I checked out the Glee cover. You know, Glee ruins every song it touches. It must have a time limit of two minutes or less, because the Glee version of every song I’ve seen so far has cut out so much of the song as to make it–gee, a teenybopper singles show. No wonder I could never watch it for more than five minutes without yawning.

Oh, there’s a funny reference to Freddie Mac in the lyrics, too.

Friday morning exhausted briefs

Yeah, you try driving to NJ and back in one day and see if you don’t get home late and tired, particularly if you have to stop four times on the way for your elderly mother, and then wait for her to finish dinner and help her unpack and THEN take your brother to go get his car before heading home and see how YOU feel the next morning.

Boy, this is gonna piss off all the LA Times readers and then some: Three inconvenient truths about income disparity in the U.S., from a conservative point of view. Wait–what? No comments? Boy, someone in #occupy isn’t tweeting.

The most beautiful sound you’ll ever hear: Not “Maria”. The Syrian opposition telling the world that Iran can go pound sand once they take over and Assad’s people are gone. No more Syrian support for Hezbollah, either. Woo! This, of course, is why Hebollah and Iranians are in Syria right now, murdering Syrian civilians. Their precious “revolution” is on the line.

Burhan Ghalioun, the president of the Syrian National Council, said such moves would be part of a broader Syrian reorientation back into an alliance with the region’s major Arab powers.

Of course, their main target will still be Israel, but taking the Iran-Hezbollah-Syria axis offline would be a great benefit to Israel.

Speaking of Israel as Islamist target: Israel is strengthening other friendships as a result of the Arab spring. I think it’s wise, but I also think that the past history of Arab alliances will work in Israel’s favor. They do war on each other, after all. They’ll do it under Islamist governments, too.

Funny how that keeps happening: Those “spontaneous” protests against the U.K. embassy in Tehran? Not so much. Systematic destruction? Gee, color me shocked, shocked, to find out that there was a guiding hand behind the mob.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out: The U.K. expelled Iranian diplomats. Every nation that has any official Iranian presence should be on the lookout. They’re planning to attack U.S. Army bases in Germany if their nuclear plants are attacked.

Wednesday briefs

But Karl Vick said Hamas is moderating! Yeah, not so much.

Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas is not serious about reconciling with political rival Hamas despite public statements to the contrary, a senior Hamas official said in an interview published Wednesday.

The official, Mahmoud Zahar, said Abbas “is not interested in achieving” a deal with Hamas, allegedly because the U.S. and Israel oppose it.

“Reconciliation will not be achieved at all,” Zahar told the London-based daily Asharq al-Awsat.

Of course the UN won’t blame the terrorists: Yeah. Like we haven’t heard this a thousand times before. Terrorists attack, Israel defends, the UN Secretary-General calls on “both sides” to “exercise restraint.” This, in spite of the fact that the rocket attacks are a clear violation of UNSCR 1701. The binding kind.

The Isfahan blast was sabotage: The Times of London says the explosion was intentional, and it hit the nuke plant. If that’s true, then good. VERY good. This is my favorite quote:

Major-General Giora Eiland, Israel’s former director of national security, told Israel’s army radio that the Isfahan blast was no accident. “There aren’t many coincidences, and when there are so many events there is probably some sort of guiding hand, though perhaps it’s the hand of God,” he said.

Perhaps.

Some animals are more equal than others

Interesting. When Egyptians attacked the Israeli embassy, the world tsk-tsked. The act was condemned by several nations, including the U.K.

The Iranian attack on the British embassy has brought out a UN Security Council (non-binding) resolution condemning the attack.

Unanimously.

Meaning Russia and China, too.

Yep. Some embassies are more equal than others.

Tuesday morning briefs

We don’t need no steenking international law: Iran is once again violating the code of nations (but I repeat myself). “Protestors” stormed the British embassy grounds in Tehran. The Brits are probably smart enough to have evacuated the embassy, what with the Iranians passing a law (you have to laugh at that faux show of legality) to expel the British ambassador. And why the hissy fit? Because Britain is passing sanctions on Iran for violating the non-proliferation treaty it signed.

They’re probably going to be imprisoned when they get home: Israelis in Thailand saved two drowning Iranians, who were thankful until they were told their rescuers were Israelis. Then they ran. Poor guys. I’m sure the Iranian spy agencies read the foreign press. Jail and/or torture for their misfortune to have their lives saved by those evil, racist Zionists. Oh, one of their rescuers was an Iranian Jew. God really does work in mysterious ways. If the Iranians hadn’t forced so many Jews to flee, there would not have been one around to rescue the two men.

Calling Inspector Clouseau: Seriously? A UNIFIL investigation of the rockets that were fired from Lebanon into Israel yesterday? So, what are we going to hear, that they have no idea who did it, and anyway, they can’t investigate because every time they come to a Hizballah rocket site they get chased away by “protestors”?

… a spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon was quoted by Beirut’s radio as saying that “UNIFIL rejects reports suggesting any violation of UN Resolution 1701 and is working to restore normalcy.”

Yep. UNIFIL is on the case, even though there are thousands of violations of 1701 right under their noses. Katyusha rockets? Meh. Must have been some kids playing with fireworks.

Yeah, I’ve been saying that for years: Israeli leaders need to understand how incredibly wrong they are to ignore the PR front in so many nations. A group of Israeli teens encountered some raving anti-Israel Muslims in the U.K., but they also encountered extreme ignorance. The latter can be countered by a simple PR campaign.

But Yishai said: “We couldn’t believe it when we were asked if we rode to school on camels, and if there were roads in Israel. There was a collective gasp when we showed one class a picture of Tel Aviv.”

For someone who understands America so well, you’d think that Bibi Netanyahu would also understand that Israel needs a PR push every bit as hefty as the one the Palestinians started in the 1970s. Look where that got them. It wasn’t just terrorism that made them the left’s cause celebre. They have smooth, available, English-speaking propagandists for every major occasion. Israel is always a step behind on the accessibility and information train, and they tend to promote spokespeople with heavy accents. Not very smart.

The myth of the moderate Islamists and the blind eyes of the media

The mainstream media, aided largely by politicans, have been flogging the myth of the moderate Islamists, which is exactly what the Brotherhood wants them to do. Because if the media lie for them, they don’t have to. And if they only speak their Jew-hatred in Arabic, well, then, the non-Arabic-speaking editors and writers of the AP, Reuters, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and all of the other media outlets that are carrying water for the Islamist takeover of the Middle East simply don’t report the truth.

Because the truth goes against the narrative that Islamists, once in office, are going to change their anti-Israel, anti-Western tune because they have to deal with the day-to-day struggle of governing, doing things like collecting the garbage. This is exactly what every media outlet said about Hamas’ takeover of Gaza. Their extremism would moderate, because they’d be tax collectors and garbage collectors and they’d have to settle municipal issues and ultimately, they’d make peace with Israel.

All of that has been proven false. Rockets still fly from Gaza into Israeli kindergartens. Men and women are no longer allowed to mix in hair salons and other places. Hamas is still sworn to Israel’d destruction, and they think they’re getting closer—because the Muslim Brotherhood just took over Morocco and is poised to take over Egypt. This is what will happen in Egypt, along with the persecution of millions of Egypt’s Christians, but the media narrative persists, and a blind eye is turned to the hatred and violence that is coming.

Here’s a rally, as reported by the BBC:

A third protest at the al-Azhar mosque, Egypt’s highest Sunni Muslim institution also has a large turnout.

It was organised weeks ago to call for Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa mosque to be “saved” from Israeli control.

Members of the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s most powerful political force, were called to support the cause, as the group officially boycotted the rally in Tahrir Square. Its Freedom and Justice Party expects to do well in parliamentary elections and does not want them delayed.

Here’s what the UPI wrote, based on the above report:

A third protest at the Sunni al-Azhar mosque was originally planned to demand that the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem remain out of Israeli control. But the gathering turned into a Muslim Brotherhood call for speedy parliamentary elections, the BBC reported.

Here is what actually was said at the al-Azhar mosque, as reported by Ynet’s correspondent:

Muslim Brotherhood spokesmen, as well as Palestinian guest speakers, made explicit calls for Jihad and for liberating the whole of Palestine. Time and again, a Koran quote vowing that “one day we shall kill all the Jews” was uttered at the site. Meanwhile, businessmen in the crowd were urged to invest funds in Jerusalem in order to prevent the acquisition of land and homes by Jews.

Throughout the event, Muslim Brotherhood activists chanted: “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgment day has come.”

Speaking to Ynet outside the mosque following the prayer, elementary school teacher Ala al-Din said that “all Egyptian Muslims are willing to embark on Jihad for the sake of Palestine.”

Note how none of those quotes made it into the BBC news article. I can’t find a single AP story on the rally. The BBC story may be from a Reuters feed. But as the anti-Semitic Brotherhood rally goes deeply against the narrative of the “moderate” Islamist, I doubt you’ll find anything, anywhere. Unless you know where to look.

Here’s what that inspirational imam said about Israel a few days before he exhorted the crowds of Egypt:

The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar University and Mosque has warned that Israel’s plans for the Judaisation of occupied Jerusalem and attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque are a red line that should not be crossed. “It means,” warned Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, “the beginning of the end of the Israeli entity on the land of Palestine.”

He joins with Holocaust denier and Palestinian prime minister Mahmoud Abbas, who spoke to the UN about the Christian and Muslim heritage of “Palestine”, but said absolutly nothing about the three-millennium Jewish history of Israel. It’s the new Muslim narrative, apparently. And the media are turning two blind eyes toward the vicious Jew-hatred, by not reporting it when and where it happens.

The Grand Sheikh’s comments were made at the launch of his “Statement on Holy Jerusalem” on Monday 21 November. “Jerusalem is not just an occupied land, but a sacred Islamic and Christian land,” said the Sheikh. “Its cause is not only a national issue, whether Palestinian or pan-Arab, but also an issue of Islamic ideology. While Muslims are ready to free Jerusalem from Israeli occupation, they emphasise its holiness among all believers.”

Or reporters are outright lying, like Karl Vicks, who is pretending that Hamas is going to give up its stated purpose of destroying Israel.

The head of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, and Abbas spoke for two hours, Abbas in the big chair, Meshaal on the couch with two others. Afterwards both met the cameras smiling. “There are no differences between us now,” Abbas said. Mashaal went with: “We have opened a new page of partnership.” And on whose terms? Hamas stands for resistance, its formal name being the Islamic Resistance Movement. But in the Gaza Strip where it governs, Hamas has largely enforced a truce with Israel since January 2009. And in Cairo it signed a paper committing itself to “popular resistance” against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. That’s “popular” in contrast to “violent” or “military” resistance. We’re talking marches here. Chanting and signs, not booby traps or suicide bombs.

That “largely enforced” truce? Well, there were 566 rockets fired into Israel from September of 2010 through August 2011 (the Jewish year). There were also hundreds of terror attacks. But who are you going to believe, Karl Vicks, or Israeli lying eyes?

As for that unity, well, the AP reported yesterday that Hamas and Abbas are going to call it quits on that interim government and each continue to do what they’ve been doing until elections. Funny how that works against the Vicks narrative that Hamas and the PA are bestest buddies now. That’s why Hamas went around taking down all signs of tribute on the anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death in Gaza. Once again, this is something that interferes with the narrative, and so, it does not exist.

The media are complicit in the lies that permeate the narrative. And they’ll be the first to blame someone else when their darlings start executing gays, murdering Christians, and sending rockets into Israel. (Of course, for that last, they’re going to blame the Jews themselves, because, well, that’s what they do.)

Monday morning post-holiday briefs

So is the seventh, eighth, or ninth time? Another day, another explosion in the Egypt-Israel-Jordan gas line. Two, actually, both set off remotely. It bodes well for Israel-Egypt relations, regardless of what some op-ed writers think about Egypt not wanting to go to war with Israel. And yet, Egypt is raising its purchase of U.S. M1 tanks, for some reason. Who else would they get into a tank war with, we wonder? Hm. Let’s think. And yes, American dollars are paying Americans to make tanks for Egypt.

How stupid are the media regarding Islamists? This stupid. These are the “moderate” Islamists who will be running Morocco, a state that has been extremely tolerant of Jews for a long time:

The inhabitants of Arab Morocco do not think there is only a duty to identify with the Palestinians, but want to wage a jihad struggle alongside them.

Say goodbye to the last Jews of Morocco. I doubt they’ll be staying.

Addendum to the above: Elder found the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s election platform in English. It’s exactly what you’d expect, and yet, the media will still call them “moderate”. They do this, even though the Brotherhood sponsored a rally where thousands of their supporters chanted they would “one day kill all Jews.” Not that the mainstream media noticed.
