Red on red

The palestinians are edging closer to civil war, and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of people.

Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar’s convoy came under fire Sunday as it passed through Gaza City, and members of his Hamas movement accused Fatah rivals of trying to assassinate him.

The shooting took place as al-Zahar, a senior Hamas official, was traveling near the Foreign Ministry. ”

It appears the target was Dr. al-Zahar,” said Taher Anunu, a spokesman for Zahar.

“The attempt to assassinate Zahar has failed and he is safe and he was not harmed in the shooting.”

Damn. They missed. But wait! Hamas retaliates!

An explosion took place Sunday afternoon near the office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza City.

Palestinian security sources reported that several mortar shells were fired at the offices in the Gaza Strip and that six people were injured – five security officers and a 45-year-old passer-by.

The Palestinian president was in Ramallah at the time and was not hurt.

Another mortar shell was fired at the office in the evening hours.

Damn. They missed again!

Meanwhile, about 4,000 gunmen from the Presidential Guard and the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades took over the Transportation and Agriculture Ministries in Gaza. Hamas referred to the incidents as a “military coup,” and Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar demanded that the offices be evacuated.

This is the part I like:

According to him, if the gunmen fail to leave the ministries they would be arrested and disarmed.

Please do try that. I’d love to read about the pitched battles that follow. One less dead Hamas terrorists by Fatah, and vice-versa, are two less dead terrorists for Israel to worry about.

Say. Where’s the UN condemnation? Where are all of the calls for restraint from world leaders? Oh, wait, here it is.

15 December 2006 – Reacting to recent internal violence in the Gaza Strip, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today called on all Palestinian sides to resolve their differences peacefully and foster national unity.

“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned over the recent deterioration in the security situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and the increase of intra-Palestinian violence,” a statement issued by spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

“The Secretary-General calls for respect by all parties for the rule of law, and for Palestinians to resume dialogue in order to resolve differences peacefully and seek national unity,” it added.

Dude. Hate to tell you this, but nobody cares what you say anymore. We’re all listening to the new guy, who seems to be a hell of a straight shooter, and not in the palestinians’ pockets.

In the meantime, to Hamas and Fatah: I hope you both lose.

So far it sounds like Imperial Storm Troopers vs. Star Trek Redshirts. No one can hit anything.

They just declared a ceasefire. If anyone violates it, will the other side show restraint? I hope not!

I’ve always wondered about that fabulous marksmanship shown by the palestinians…. they way what they’ll blast away with AK-47s into a crowd, but you only read about 8 or 9 people getting hurt.

Are they using the right ammunition? Maybe we should all sponsor a drive to send them more bullets, just to make sure that they can properly shoot each other.

Personally, I think that they are all show; they’ll make a lot of noise, get a few people into coffins, and do it all for the cameras.

And that’ll be the great Paly Civil War, and then they’ll go back to shooting at Israel, which is what they really want to do anyway.
