This is what passes for an “expert” in the PA

I read a broad range of national and international media sources to keep up with events that I’m interested in. Occasionally, the Arab/Muslim press gives me guffaw-worthy “news” items. Here’s one:

An Arab strategic expert has warned that Israel’s rabid efforts to maintain nuclear monopoly in the Middle East is aimed at keeping hundreds of millions of Muslims under the mercy of the Zionist state’s nuclear weapons.

Abdul Sattar Qassem, a professor of political science and former candidate for President in the Palestinian Authority, said Israel wanted all Arabs and Muslims in this region to remain in a “perpetual state of strategic and military inferiority. “This means they can invade, attack and occupy any rampage through any Arab or Muslim country in this region with impunity,” he said while speaking during a symposium in Dura Tuesday, marking the 58th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, the forced usurpation of Palestine by Zionist Jews.

Qassem, a frequent critic of the Palestinian Authority and the Oslo process, said it was imperative that Muslim states seek to create military and strategic parity with Israel.

“Such a parity or a semblance of parity is essential to prevent Israel from annihilating millions of Muslims. Just imagine if some crazy Jewish fundamentalists take power in Israel, would it be far-fetched to imagine the possibility that these racists would seek to attack neighboring states with nuclear bombs in order to fulfill their messianic aspirations.”

Batshit effing crazy. This is what passes for an expert? The PA, apparently, is utterly filled with nuts. What’s really scary — so is the rest of the Muslim and Arab world. Go read MEMRI if you don’t believe me.

  1. I’m no historian, but let me count the number of times Israel has invaded and colonized neighboring countries: zero. Now let me count the number of times the Arab forces has invaded other countries with the intent of colonization: Egypt attacked Israel, Syria attacked Israel, Jordan attacked Israel, Hizbollah attacked Israel, Iraq attacked Kuwait. And lest we forget, the charter of Hamas and the goal of Iran is to wipe Israel from the map.

  2. Cynic says:

Seems that nobody remembers that once upon a time Jordan was protected from an invasion by Syria when Israel threatened to intervene.

  3. Michael Lonie says:

Don’t forget Egypt’s war in Yemen during the sixties, where the Egyptian Air Force gassed Yemeni villages from the air, in the same style that Mussolini’s air force did to Ethiopians in 1935. Benny the Moose won, Nasser didn’t.

Then there was Syria’s attempt to colonize Lebanon, successful for many years. Dare we mention Qaddaffis’ several incursions into Chad, seeking uranium? These failed due to French support for the Chad government, whoever it was that month. In one famous case the French-backed Chadian forces defeated the Libyan armored forces with antitank missiles mounted on Toyota pickup trucks.

Like so many Arabs this jerk is projecting onto the Israelis what he would do if he had control of power like Israel’s. The Arabs would have nothing to fear from the Israelis if they would just stop attacking Israel and trying to destroy the country. But Israel’s mere existence offends the gigantic egos and narcissistic self-love of the Arabs. Tsk, tsk, how awful those mean old Jews are.

  4. Ed says:

But look at the last quoted paragraph: He suggests that some Jews are considerably more evil than others, which implies that he’s capable of imagining that there are limits to the evil of some Jews — in fact, a majority of them.

So he’s a gibbering lunatic, but he stops short of running around stark naked in the street howling at the moon at midday. He’s a moderate!

With the bit about messianism, he’s also tacitly admitting that people’s concerns about Ahmadinejad are reasonable. The difference is that Ahmadi’s in power right now, and his hypothetical Israeli extremists aren’t.

  5. Ed, somehow, you’re not making me feel any better about that nutjob.
