Things that annoy me, Site News version

I should like to point out that I am getting really tired of people who are using my weblog to post links and trackbacks back to their weblogs in my comments section.

If I find a hollow trackback, it will be deleted. If I find a commenter is linking to her or someone else’s site to merely say something like, “So-and-so has this to say about the same subject,” I will delete it. If someone whom I have never heard of, and who has never commented on my blog, suddenly comments on my blog as an excuse to link back to his, I will delete or edit the comment. As an FYI, this blog has moderated comments–your no-trackback trackback link doesn’t get posted without my approving it to begin with, so you’re actually wasting your time and mine.

Earn your links, or don’t put them up at all.

I earned mine.

And what’s even more ridiculous is I am not a high-traffic blogger. I mean, jeez, you’re link-whoring, and you’re doing it in the wrong place.

How do you earn the right to link your blog? Become a regular commenter here. Link rarely to a post on your blog; the link in your comment is generally enough to get people over there. Send me an email if you think you have a post I would link to, but don’t bother sending me an email if you’ve never read this blog before the day of the email–because you won’t know what I link and what I don’t.

And do not–ever–send me email every day with another post you think I’ll link. I hate spam. That’s spam.

To my regular readers: If your link has not been deleted, I don’t mean you. Please ignore this post, and realize that I know you would never do such a thing with your blog.

Yes, but you’re the Dave Van Ronk of the blogosphere, remember?

You don’t get high volume, but the traffic you get is basically all the other top bloggers getting inspiration from you.

    That’s why people link-whore at Yourish.com!

  3. You keep saying that, but I’m starting to think that most bloggers don’t read my blog. I’m thinking the overwhelming majority of my readers is of the non-blogging variety. The ones who hate saying the word “blog” out loud, because it sounds so weird.

On the other hand, if you’re right, then you’re saying most bloggers who read me are thieves?

    Shame on them.
