Another job update

So here’s where I stand at the job hunt:

I have been extended another month at my current job, which is great, because I’ve got bill-paying income until the end of the year.

I have signed up with no less than four agencies since I started sending my resume around, and each of them seems to think that it shouldn’t be too difficult to find me placement at the salary range I’m seeking.

Thanks to my readers, my resume is at various companies around Richmond. I had forgotten a few job-search sites (DICE.COM comes immediately to mind), so even those of you who had no direct job contacts helped me immeasurably.

Another Large Financial Company in Richmond (there are a lot of those; Richmond has an amazing amount of financial companies for such a small city) is deciding whether or not they want to bring me in as a contractor. It would be a raise in salary from my current position, and the agency benefits are pretty good. Also a chance of going temp-to-perm.

And most important of all, I have regained my confidence. You know, getting laid off twice in six months, then being unable to get a job in my field after the tech bubble burst was pretty tough on my ego. It’s good to see that my skills are still in demand.

So thanks again, all of you who helped. I hope to have better news in a few weeks.

  1. Richmond is full of financial companies because it is home to one of the regional branches of the Federal Reserve. I’ve been to the FRB in Richmond a few times in the past as a techie in the late 90s, and at least back then their skyscraper dominated one end of town.
