Cutting straight to the point

Taking the night off, EATAPETA, etc.

I’m tired. Long drive, long day at work, great dinner (I had veal), pleasant company… you all talk amongst yourselves.

Remember that March 15th is International Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA (EATAPETA) Day. Plan your breakfast, lunch, and dinner around meat and dairy products.

I’ll have updates on my meat-up in Fredericksburg a bit later. We’re talking about Logan’s.

Palestinians protest Jews supporting Israel

Goldie Hawn made an appearance at the Scottish version of the JNF on Sunday, and the Palestinian Wah Squad was out in force.

Oh, and the Scots need to bone up on their American movie references.

GOLDIE Hawn, the Hollywood star, was met by pro-Palestinian activists as she visited an Israeli charity’s fundraising dinner in Glasgow last night.

The Academy Award-winning American actress, who is best known for her role in the hit movie Private Benjamin, was heckled by about 150 demonstrators who were beating drums and blaring horns as she arrived at the Hilton hotel.

Shyeah. In the friggin’ 80s. Now she’s best-known as Kate Hudson’s mom.

But really—don’t these morons have anything better to do than protest innocuous events like this? And oh—here’s what they were protesting.

The dinner was organised by the charity KKL Scotland, the Scottish equivalent of the England Jewish National Fund, with which it has close ties.

A KKL spokesman said: “The funds we raise will go to build a reservoir for all the people in the region regardless of their religion.

“We have got nothing whatever to do with the events taking place in Gaza.”

But hey, protest away. It got you noticed in two papers in Scotland, plus the BBC.

Humiliation vs. authorizing terror

Saab Erekat, one of the Palestinian spokesliars the media likes to quote a lot, is up in arms about how Olmert’s authorizing more construction in the West Bank is “humiliating” Mahmoud Abbas.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said he had appealed to the Bush Administration to pressure Israel to halt the projects.

“Why do they insist on doing this and humiliating Abu Mazen in front of the Palestinian public?” he said, using the nickname of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Wow, that’s humiliation. I feel really bad for Abbas. Because it’s not like he recently bragged about how many Jews he’s killed or anything. Oh, wait. Yes he did.

“I had the honor of firing the first shot in 1965 and of being the one who taught resistance to many in the region and around the world; what it’s like; when it is effective and when it isn’t effective; its uses, and what serious, authentic and influential resistance is,” Abbas said.

“It is common knowledge when and how resistance is detrimental and when it is well timed,” he added. “We (Fatah) had the honor of leading the resistance and we taught resistance to everyone, including Hizbullah, who trained in our military camps.”

And he also said that the Palestinians are ready to resume the war that was started two years before the “occupation”:

“At this present juncture, I am opposed to armed struggle because we cannot succeed in it, but maybe in the future things will be different,” he said.

So go ahead, Erekat. Whine about the “humiliation” of more buildings going up. The media will definitely publish your remarks, and ignore your boss’. Because they already did.

Johnny Mac’s going to Israel

John McCain is going to Israel next week, hoping it will help Jewish voters realize that he’s been pro-Israel for a very, very long time. I will point out that he never played kissy-face with Suha Arafat, or sat by in stone-faced silence while she lied about Israelis poisoning Palestinian children. Instead, he just—supported Israel.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain will arrive in Israel on March 18 as part of a delegation of senators visiting the region.

The schedule for the trip has not been released yet, but it is expected to be a brief, one-day visit during which McCain will meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

According to US sources, the trip is aimed at boosting support for McCain among Jewish voters in the US.

And here’s the best part:

McCain has already declared that he plans to attend Israel’s 60th anniversary celebrations this year. The republican candidate is considered a staunch supporter of Israel, and his visit to the country is expected to further boost his pro-Israeli image.

I think I can say with some certainty that I’ll be voting for Johnny Mac come fall. And not because of his views on Israel. It’s for many of the rest of his views, particularly in regard to the Long War—the one that the Dems refuse to acknowledge exists.

Hamas admits they are Iran’s proxy army

Hamas isn’t even bothering to hide anymore the fact that Iran is pulling their strings.

A senior commander interviewed by The Sunday Times said 300 of the group’s “best brains” had been secretly sent to Tehran.

Half are still being trained by Revolutionary Guards. They are learning how to make explosives from everyday items and produce deadlier rockets.

The rest have already returned from a Revolutionary Guard base in Tehran. Some have been trained as snipers. Others have learnt to use tunnels in attacks on Israeli forces.

“Iran is our mother,” the commander said. “She gives us information, military supplies and financial support.”

Seven separate groups of Hamas militants have spent up to six months in Tehran since the training began in 2005.

From the interview:

The Hamas commander, however, confirmed for the first time that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has been training its men in Tehran for more than two years and is currently honing the skills of 150 fighters.

The details he gave suggested that, if anything, Shin Bet has underestimated the extent of Iran’s influence on Hamas’s increasingly sophisticated tactics and weaponry.

Speaking on the record but withholding his identity as a target of Israeli forces, the commander, who has a sparse moustache and oiled black hair, said Hamas had been sending fighters to Iran for training in both field tactics and weapons technology since Israeli troops pulled out of the Gaza strip of Palestinian territory in 2005. Others go to Syria for more basic training.

“We have sent seven ‘courses’ of our fighters to Iran,” he said. “During each course, the group receives training that he will use to increase our capacity to fight.”

The most promising members of each group stay longer for an advanced course and return as trainers themselves, he said.

This is the country that Juan Cole insists doesn’t mean the destruction of Israel when its leaders call for the destrucion of Israel This is the country that Jimmy Carter says isn’t an existential threat to Israel?

Former President Jimmy Carter said that he does not think Iran poses an immediate threat to Israel, despite claims by Iranian officials that they have drawn up bombing plans if the Jewish state should attack.

Speaking on Wednesday at Emory University, Carter, who brokered the 1979 Camp David peace accord between Israel and Egypt, said Israel’s superior military power and distance from Iran likely are enough to discourage an actual attack.

“Iran is quite distant from Israel,” said Carter, 83. “I think it would be almost inconceivable that Iran would commit suicide by launching one or two missiles of any kind against the nation of Israel.”

The first word that comes to mind regarding both their opininions on Iran is: Wrong.

Iran has been waging war against Israel since 1979. America too. We just refuse to acknowledge it.
