The AP anti-Israel bias causes an Israeli death

The AP made Jews Islamist targets. Remember the false story spread that “100 Jews” raised the money for the Muhammed film, and that its creator was an Israeli? Good work, AP, because the jihadis used that as an excuse to attack Israel.

In a statement posted on one of the jihadi websites, the group said “after finding out that Jews were involved in this matter (film), are motivating the hostile group of foreign pigs (reference to Coptic Christians in the US), took part in the film’s production and encouraged this shameful crime, and because protecting the prophet’s honor is one of our duties, your brothers from the Ansar Beit al-Maqdes organization decided to punish the Jews for their heinous crimes.”

But don’t look for any kind of change in the AP. They continue their ability to whitewash terrorism against Israel. Here are three headlines they issued on the day of the attack. Note the progression. First, the “Israel kills militants” story.

Israeli troops kill 3 militants on Egyptian border

Israeli troops shot and killed three militants attempting to infiltrate the country from Egypt on Friday, thwarting a major terror attack, the military said.

Military spokeswoman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich said the militants were armed with weapons and were wearing explosive belts and flak jackets. She said they opened fire on troops guarding a team of workers building a border fence between Israel and Egypt’s lawless Sinai desert. The Israeli troops returned fire, killing the militants.

As always, the active voice is used to describe terrorists killed by Israelis. surprisingly, the active voice is used in the next story, but–the story focusing on the death of the IDF soldier is only four paragraphs long. The first story is three times as long and includes a history of attacks from the Sinai, conveniently neglecting to point out that when the IDF killed six Egyptian soldiers, the terrorists had dressed as Egyptian soldiers to attack Israel. Also note how the headline changes in the last update (below), and the AP starts the “shootout” meme in the lead.

Militants kill Israeli soldier on Egypt border

The Israeli military says a soldier was killed in a shootout with militants along the Israel-Egypt border.

Israeli troops shot and killed three militants who attempted to infiltrate the country on Friday, thwarting an attack.

Now, note the change in the narrative. The final update calls the incident a “border shootout,” changing it from a deliberate terrorist attack to the tit-for-tat line that the AP likes to favor.

Border shootout kills Israeli soldier, 3 militants

A shootout along the Israel-Egypt border on Friday, in which three Islamic militants and an Israeli soldier were killed, highlighted the growing threat posed by al-Qaida-inspired groups that have taken hold in the vast desert of the Sinai Peninsula.

The militants were heavily armed and wearing explosive belts when they infiltrated into Israeli territory and opened fire on soldiers protecting a team of workers building a border fence meant to buffer against just such attacks, the Israeli military said.

The AP never updated their report to include information on how despicable the attack really was. The jihadis were lying in wait, counting on the humanitarian impulses of the Israelis to stage their attack.

According to the inquiry, the terrorists had gathered intelligence and followed the group of 15 African infiltrators. When the infiltrators arrived at the border, several soldiers left their post to offer them water.

The terrorists then emerged from their hiding spot, approached the four fighters who remained at the post and opened fire, killing Netanel Yahalomi.

He died of a gunshot wound to the head. I think there’s no question of who shot first. But the AP managed to find one. Look at this lead paragraph again.

The Israeli military says a soldier was killed in a shootout with militants along the Israel-Egypt border.

So this weekend, we have the crown jewel in the AP media bias: It can be argued that Netanel Yahalomi died as a direct result of the AP’s inability to fact-check “Sam Bacile” other than to discuss his “thick accent” until the story had already spread around the world.

And we have the AP story of the results of that misinformation–without, of course, any indication by the AP of their involvement in the spread of those lies. Despicable reporting, AP. Despicable.

Ansar Jerusalem, in a statement posted on militant forums late Saturday, linked the attack to an online video denigrating the Prophet Muhammad that has sparked protests across the Muslim world.

It said the militants were Egyptians and that the operation was a “disciplinary attack against those who insulted the beloved Prophet.”

The group alleged Jewish involvement in the low-budget film, though it was produced in the United States by an American citizen who is originally from Egypt. It also praised Muslim demonstrations over the film that were directed at U.S. diplomatic facilities in many countries.

Despicable.

Same-old, same-old briefs

France’s Jews, under attack: French Muslims threw a grenade into a kosher supermarket and wounded Jewish shoppers. But it’s Muslims who are being discriminated against and attacked–because someone made a film that they don’t like.

Leave France. It isn’t safe for Jews anymore.

Another terror attack from Sinai:

Update: One IDF soldier was killed.

Shots were fired at IDF Artillery Corps soldiers from a distance of 100 meters. One soldier sustained a bullet wound to the head and was killed immediately, IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai said. The soldier has not yet been named.

But don’t worry, the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt is working day and night to get the treaty with Israel adjusted so that Egypt will once again have full control (read: militarization) of the Sinai. Because that’s what’s important: Lining tanks and soldiers on Israel’s borders to aid the terrorists. There’s an interesting note to the IDF response:

According to an initial investigation, three terrorists approached the border with Israel near the Carmit outpost, situated south of Mount Sagi, at a point where the border fence remains incomplete. The terrorists were equipped with explosive belts and assault rifles. The three opened fire on Artillery Corps soldiers who were securing civilians building the new border fence. Soldiers from the Caracal Battalion, in which both male and female combat soldiers serve, rushed to the scene and killed the terrorists, but not before a large explosive device the terrorists were carrying was detonated.

IDF women kick terrorist butt. Also others.

Oh, there was another terror attack attempt from Gaza, too. The IDF took care of it.

Totally awesome judge on the totally awful Mohammed film: A judge in Israel told Arab leaders that if they don’t like the Mohammed film, then they shouldn’t watch it, and he would not issue any kind of injunction preventing its being viewed in Israel.

The petitioners attempted during the hearing to press the judge on the matter, but to no avail, with the judge suggesting that “for the time being, anyone who finds the film offensive should avoid watching it.”

“Anyone who doesn’t search for the film, won’t find it,” she added.

Well, that is eminently sensible. Watch for the protests to go on anyway.

The Presidential Apology Tour, cont’d: Yeah, tell me again how Obama isn’t apologizing for the U.S. Shall we compare and contrast what the State Department said when the virulently anti-Semitic series, “Horseman without a horse,” was presented by Egyptian state-run TV? The 30-part series was based on the Russian forgery, “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, and run during the peak viewing season of Ramadan. Oh, and they reran it this year.

“At a time when the Egyptian government is working to promote peace in the region, a program that promotes hatred would be extremely unfortunate and counterproductive,” the State Department spokeswoman said at the time.

Somehow, I don’t recall Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton critizing Egypt for rerunning the program, which denigrates, mocks, and spreads vicious lies about Jews and Judaism. Hypocrites much?

Wednesday 5773 briefs

Did you all remember to write the new year in your checkbooks? (Stolen from Lair Simon, who no longer blogs, alas.)

Surpise, Syria! The IDF ordered a surprise exercise on the Golan Heights today to test Israel’s readiness for a Syrian invasion. Just routine, right?

“This drill is part of a routine program of checks and surprise exercises held throughout the year by the IDF comptroller. It is being held under the command of Brig.-Gen. Roee Riptin, who is the chief artillery officer,” the IDF Spokesman’s Unit said.

However, it should be noted that the exercise is taking place only a week after the Golani Brigade conducted an even more extensive exercise near the Lebanese border.

I wonder if that’s part of why Chipmunk Cheeks came out to yammer about the Mohammed film and swear death to America, or something. We’re shaking in our boots, Hassan, baby. On the other hand, the Lebanese embassy is now destroying classified documents after threats to attack it. It’s a veritable redoubt, according to Michael Totten. (Isn’t “redoubt” an awesome word?)

Ah, the Muslim outreach that Obama did. It’s working so well, isn’t it? They love Americans even more now that Bush is no longer president. Oh. Wait.

Those silly Muslim Brotherhood moderates: Those awesome “moderates” now in control of Egypt are doing those moderate things again. They’re cozying up to Hamas. They’re ordering arrest warrants for American citizens. They “protested” in front of the U.S. embassy in Cairo, getting more and more threatening, until President Obama called President Morsi. Cut off aid to Egypt and pull out our embassy staff. That will stop the threats. Or make them impotent, anyway.

Is not is not is not! Using anti-Semitic tropes does not make your words anti-Semitic. Just ask the New York Times and Maureen Dowd. The fact that everyone else thinks her column was tinged with anti-Semitic imagery? Well, they’re just wrong.

That’s funny, I thought he was done with:
Politico publishes a poll result today that has Obama at 47 and Romney at 46. But I keep reading in the MSM that nobody’s going to vote for him. Why doesn’t he just abandon his campaign now? It’s over, dude. Over in September.

Riiiight.

Oh, please: Naivete from an intellectual who should certainly know better. Bernard-Henri Levy on how the AP owes Jews an apology for spreading the lie that “Sam Bacile” was an Israeli and had financing from “100 Jews” for his anti-Muhammed film. Really, Bernie? Really?

Shut up until you release the Rashid Khalidi tape, LA Times: Yeah, the Times doesn’t like what Mitt said privately at a fundraiser about the high percentage of Americans on the government dole and the fact that the Palestinians don’t want two states or peace. Because if the Khalidi tape is so harmless, why are you refusing to release it?

Yeah, right.

Hamas is now in control of most of the UNRWA workers in Gaza: But don’t worry, they don’t influence the UN at all. Or bias reports by workers on the ground against Israel, or anything like that. Nope. Nuh=uh.

Oh, grow the hell up: More Muslim anti-America protests by people who think their prophet is a delicate flower who many not be depicted or insulted. Yeah, whatEVER.

New year, same old media bias

The AP is alerting the world that Israel is in violation of the Camp David peace treaty. Why? Because El Al doesn’t want to fly to Cairo under the current anti-Israel government. Nobody in Israel wants to fly there, and it’s expensive and dangerous. Let’s look at the AP coverage.

First, the headline points to Israel breaking the agreement.

Israel’s national airline says it will stop flying to Cairo, despite Israel-Egypt agreement

Next, the lead points out that Israel is violating the agreement.

Israel’s national airline will stop flying to Cairo, even though the Israel-Egypt peace treaty mandates flights to the country, the CEO of EL AL Airlines said in a letter published Sunday.

In a message to Israel’s foreign minister published in the Maariv daily, El Al Airlines CEO Eliezer Shkedi said that flights are nearly empty, and the airline cannot afford the high security and operating costs.

And finally, the fact that there are no flights from Egypt to Israel doesn’t seem to matter to AP. Also that little thing that happened last year, where an Israeli unfortunate enough to be in Cairo cheering on the revolutionaries was arrested as a spy. Also, where reporters were constantly asked if they were Jewish or Israeli. But hey, Israel is violating the treaty, so the AP must report it, right?

So what about how Egypt violated the treaty by sending tanks into the Sinai without getting permission from Israel, as the treaty dictates?

[crickets]

Right. Because this is more important.

Under their historic 1979 peace accord, Israel and Egypt agreed to operate flights between the countries.

But few Israelis felt safe visiting Cairo, and their numbers have dwindled following last year’s Egyptian revolution.

The letter did not say when El Al would halt flights. Any such move would be mostly symbolic as the airline has only provided flights sporadically since the Arab uprising erupted last year across the Middle East.

So I figured I’d go take a look and make sure that Egypt is fulfilling the terms of the agreement. Is there a direct flight from Cairo to Tel Aviv?

No. Does the AP story mention that? Of course not. Because the AP runs on Israeli Standard Time. But don’t worry. It only occurs on days that end with a “y”.

No flights from Cairo to Israel

A new year, a new direction

L’Shana Tovah tikatevu to all of my Jewish readers. A sweet and happy new year to you and your families.

I don’t know what you’re going to see here when you come back from the holiday. My final cover design is due today, and I will be working over the weekend to finalize the print version of Darkness Rising, the first book in The Catmage Chronicles. If all goes well, I will be publishing it next week.

I will definitely be blogging at my new site, where you are all welcome to drop by and see what’s happening. I will not be blogging about Jewish and Israeli issues there. And I have not decided what to do about this blog. I find that after eleven years, I can’t give up what I was doing or post on someone else’s blog under a pseudonym. I tried. I just couldn’t do it.

I strongly suspect that I am going to use this blog for the politics, and that one for the writing. But I don’t know when that will happen. So just come along with me for the ride, and be patient.

So have a wonderful holiday, and come back and see what happens. I’m rather interested in finding out, myself. I have never been so indecisive in my life. This is a huge, huge turning point, and it’s taking a lot of time and thought. Bear with me, people. You’ve been here for a long time, and I’m not going anywhere. Plus, well, my snark is part of my DNA. It will be with me wherever I go.

The “protest” that wasn’t and the libel that is

The so-called Islamist protests (I hate when they call a rampaging mob “protesters”) that murdered four Americans appear to be as fake as the outrage against the Mohammed cartoons. If you will recall, the cartoons had been out for months before they were suddenly discovered by Islamists and became the cause of worldwide “protests”–that time, it resulted in the deaths of other Muslims.

Today, it’s looking like the “protests” are an al Qaeda setup. Not only does “Sam Bacile” not exist, but his movie may be nothing more than a crude, 12-minute trailer that was overdubbed with lines insulting Mohammed.

Yesterday, the AP was all over how “Sam Bacile” was an Israeli Jew, right down to discussing his “thick accent” on their telephone call. Then Jeff Goldberg started posting about how he couldn’t find Sam Bacile anywhere, and that it was looking more and more like he wasn’t Israeli, wasn’t Jewish, and didn’t seem to exist.

The AP finally did some digging, and guess what? Sam Bacile is most likely a Coptic Christian who was convicted of fraud and lied about getting his financing from “100 Jews”. But the damage is done, and the AP story went worldwide.

Today, Yemen is the outrage du jour and the “anti-Islam film” meme continues to be the media’s explanation as to why Islamists are trying to destroy U.S. embassies and murder Americans. Calling mobs “protestors” isn’t going to go away anytime soon. The New York Times finally decided that attacks on U.S. embassies are front-page material, after pushing the story to page four in yesterday’s edition.

Oh, and today’s story? The “protesters” managed to make it inside the U.S. embassy compound in Yemen–in spite of knowing that Yemen is also an al Qaeda hot spot, and the attacks on embassies yesterday. Also, the Cairo embassy is still under seige by the mob, and the mass media are still using the “anti-Islam film” as an excuse while saying that the U.S. is investigating reports that al Qaeda is behind the “protests.” Gee. Yemen. Libya. Cairo. A filmmaker who doesn’t exist, and a film that may not exist. Sure, let’s blame “protesters” who object to the anti-Islam film. Because it’s not like this is an ongoing attack sponsored by the same Islamists that destroyed the Twin Towers eleven years ago.

The only silver lining I can think of is that if this is the best al Qaeda can do to us on the anniversary of 9/11, they are indeed practically defeated. But they did kill four more Americans, and that is on the Obama administration for leaving those people in a completely undefended embassy in a hostile, Islamist-ruled city. Where is the media on this angle? Blaming Romney for issuing a statement criticizing Obama. Because that’s what this is about.

To the media, that’s what this is about. To the average American, this is about a failure at the top to protect American lives in hostile nations abroad. The media can’t spin this for Obama, because no matter how they try to distract the issue, Americans are going to see the picture of the Libyans carrying the ambassador’s body and wonder why there were no Marines protecting the embassy, and why Obama’s foreign policy has been nothing but a mess.

The Islamist Spring

Wow, that Arab Spring was awesome, wasn’t it?

We helped Libya defeat Moammar Gadhaffi, and they helped themselves to murder our ambassador and three other Americans. Why? Because they’re pissed off at a film that insults Mohammed released by an American. Look at this whitewash in the Los Angeles Times:

Wanis al-Sharif, Libya’s deputy minister of the interior, told the Associated Press that Stevens and three others had died as the crowd torched the consulate in Benghazi hours after demonstrators scaled the wall of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo in protest over the anti-Muslim video. A Twitter message from Libya’s deputy prime minister, Mustafa Abu Shagur, condemned the death of Stevens and the other American personnel killed in the attack.

They used RPGs.

A Libyan official told Reuters on Wednesday that “the American ambassador and three staff members were killed when gunmen fired rockets at them.” Al Arabiya reported that Stevens died of suffocation during the attack on the consulate in Benghazi, citing Interior Ministry sources.

The bodies were carried thorugh the streets (picture at link, maddening but not gruesome) by the “protestors”. Yeah, protestors. Not like they’re terrorists or anything, attacking a U.S. embassy and murdering four staff members. Word is two Marines are dead as well.

The media is full of accounts of the film, and especially happy to spread this particular news:

The film’s 52-year-old writer, director and producer, Sam Bacile, said that he wanted to showcase his view of Islam as a hateful religion. “Islam is a cancer,” he said in a telephone interview from his home Tuesday. “The movie is a political movie. It’s not a religious movie.”

Mr. Bacile said he raised $5 million from about 100 Jewish donors, whom he declined to identify. Working with about 60 actors and 45 crew members, he said he made the two-hour movie in three months last year in California.

Good work, media. Emphasize that Jewish conspiracy angle. The Islamists will love it! Great investigative reporting. That’s from the AP, of course. Of course, there’s more. The guy is now in hiding, and blaming the Americans for not having proper protection for the embassies. He’s a total asshole who represents neither Jews nor Israel, but watch for the blowback.

An Israeli filmmaker based in California went into hiding Tuesday after his movie attacking Islam’s prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya, where one American was killed.

The AP is doing their best stereotyping in reporting on this.

Bacile, a California real estate developer who identifies himself as an Israeli Jew, said he believes the movie will help his native land by exposing Islam’s flaws to the world.

“Islam is a cancer, period,” he said repeatedly, his solemn voice thickly accented.

See? He’s an Israeli! He has a thick accent! Get him, not us! Those evil Zionists!

And just down the road in Egypt, a mob of “protesters” attacked the American embassy. Nobody died there, and the Egyptian army didn’t step in until the Islamists had their fun.

The president issued a statement this morning. It includes an apology for free speech.

I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.

I have directed my Administration to provide all necessary resources to support the security of our personnel in Libya, and to increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe. While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.

It’s good to know that our professor of Constitutional Law has such a great grasp of the First Amendment.

Looks like our aid to Libya and Egypt will keep on flowing, regardless. What a guy.
