Tuesday Snark Briefs

Hey, Jim Jones can use this as his next joke line: So the underwear bomber fired at a Jewish star, a British flag, and the letters “UN.” Huh. That sort of undermines Obama’s “a Qaeda is fighting for a Palestinian state, too” narrative. Unless he thinks that al Qaeda also wants independence for Great Britain and a separate state for the UN in Manhattan. There’s a video at the link.

Satanic influences at the UN: I’m beginning to sense a theme here. We’re the Big Satan. Israel is the Little Satan. Now, Mad Mahmoud says that the ability to veto a UN Security Council resolution is a “satanic tool.” Meanwhile, the mass murder of civilians via terrorism is not considered satanic by the master of hypocrisy. I’m jusy sayin’.

And Barak kept a straight face the whole time: Barack Obama told the Israeli Defense Minister that the U.S. has an unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security. Gee. I wonder if it has anything to do with the PR offensive the Obami are launching after the pushback from Jewish Democrats (one of their biggest sources of campaign donations). Unfortunately, I think they’re stupid enough to buy the charm offensive. Looks like Ehud Barak got the red carpet treatment.

Barak was in Washington at least twice in March, and met with Gates both times, but one doesn’t remember an honor guard. The White House also made a point today to say that Obama had dropped in on a meeting of Barak with National Security Advisor Jim Jones at the White House today. Presumably, the pulling out the best china now is as much about demonstrating to Congress and Washington players the high respect Obama administration officials are showing for Israeli leaders, and not because Barak has been feeling in any way neglected by the Obama administration.

Yep. Liberal Jews will fall for it. Watch.

Sure, but this is Ehud Barak, who is quite a bit to the left of Netanyahu; it’s not surprising that Obama is willing to be nice to him.

  2. soccer dad says:

    Russ has a point.

Perhaps Obama’s been chastened by trying to bully Netanyahu figuring he could turn Israelis against the PM and force him to take Livni into his coaltion. So if he can’t get ahead by pushing Netanyahu down, maybe he’ll get what he wants by promoting Netanyahu’s potential rivals.

  3. Gerry says:

It will be interesting to see how Mahmoud Abbas is received when he visits the White House.

Is anyone foolish enough to believe he will get the same treatment as Netanyahu and the Dalai Lama? No photos and entering and leaving through the side door (in the Dalai Lama’s case, the garbage disposal exit).

The excuse will be that it is a state visit, but Abbas is not a head of state, and his term of office ran out months ago. But I’m afraid American Jews will forgive and forget.

  4. Michael Lonie says:

All we can hope, Gerry, is that Obama bows less deeply to Abu Muzzy (or whatever his nom de terroir is) than he does to his masters, the King of the Wahhabist Entity and the Chief Oligarch of China.

  5. Tony says:

Barak gets star treatment because he is a potential rival to Netanyahu. These are Bill Clinton tactics revisited.

Obama is working to overthrow Netanyahu. Next for the red-carpet is Livni. A pliable Israel is a weakened Israel.

American Jews can counter this by voting wisely in November and 2012.

  6. Michael Lonie says:

American Jews are mostly unable to vote wisely. They are still voting for FDR when they pull the lever for Obama. The difference between the Dem party of 1945 (or 1965 for that matter) and that of 2010 completely escapes them. It is empirical evidence that the story of high average IQ for we Jews is a myth. Besides, most of them are far too snobbish to be caught dead voting the same way as those ghastly Christian conservatives. Their liberal friends would never forgive them, and never again invite them to parties. Can’t have that, dontcherknow.

There are a few of us who have made the jump, but I suspect you will find pretty much the same percentage voting Dem in November as did in 2008. They will swallow some lies about the Dems being devoted to the security of Israel (those who care, which is not all). Really and truly they are devoted, just ask J Street.
