Thursday SNB

And the SNB stands for Snark News Briefs, not Sinuses Now Broken (the reason I’ve been low on posts lately; damn those allergies and sinuses).

The Obama administration: Let’s threaten our ally some more! Let’s see. This is Netanyahu’s “moment of truth.” Netanyahu’s decision will “greatly influence ties” with America. It’s a “pivotal moment” for Bibi. And what, pray tell, is the most important decision that Benjamin Netanyahu will ever make in his life? Whether or not to freeze settlements. Because it’s not like Iran is trying to get nuclear weapons or anything like that. Once again: 78% of American Jews voted for this administration. It’s on your heads.

The rescue will be Tweeted: Some moron jumps off a Carnival cruise ship, gets rescued by a Disney cruise ship crew, and the rescue was Tweeted. I’m sure someday someone’s going to write a graduate thesis about this, but I find it interesting only because the idiot survived.

Manson follower gets the same choice she gave Sharon Tate: Susan Atkins, one of the Manson followers who murdered Sharon Tate, is dying of cancer and wanted to be released so she could die outside of prison. She was refused. Good for the prison. Atkins didn’t allow Tate to choose where she would die. Sounds about right to me.

  1. Sabba Hillel says:

Actually, the only way it would be a similar choice would be if they decided to operate on the cancer with no anesthetic. Allowing her to die in prison is actually a mercy.

  2. Gerry says:

Frankly, I’m getting sick and tired of people like Dershowitz, Koch, and Peretz (not that they are the only ones) who keep writing in their blogs that Obama is wrong on “this” and wrong on “that”, and “he really doesn’t mean what he said”, but still insist that he’s really, really, cross my heart and hope to die, Israel’s friend.

  3. Sabba Hillel, did you read the article? She quoted the 23rd Psalm and appears to be of the opinion that because she repented, she’s going to be forgiven.

  4. Yannai says:

Well, if that’s what she believes then I guess it’s up to God to sort it out. While she’s still attached to the mortal coil, however, I see no reason to forgive her.

BTW, I voted for Obama as one of the top five people I’d like to kick in the crotch in a quiz on Facebook. At the time I felt badly about it (not for the sentiment itself, but for including him so high on the list along with dictators and mass murderers) but with each new such smiley-threat my regret dissolves.

I read the article and my attitude is similar to some articles that I read about why the Torah forbids granting clemency to a murderer, whether subject to the death penalty or exile (the equivalent of first degree or accidental homicide). One point is that we cannot determine what is in a person’s heart, nor can we determine if Hashem has sent whatever trials and tribulations a person may have suffered as a kapara (atonement?) for whatever sins he or she may have done. In any case, she deserved capital punishment and is finally undergoing it.
