U.K. academic boycott backlash

The AJC got 300 heads of American colleges and universities to sign a statement against the U.K. academic boycott of Israel, and placed a full-page ad (PDF at the link) in the New York Times yesterday.

I’m proud to say that my alma mater, Montclair State University, is among those that signed the statement.

One of mine, Oakland University in Michigan, did not. My graduate and law degree grantors–Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Michigan–did. I have sent a polite e-mail to the head of Oakland asking about it. Any response will be reported here.

Mine’s there: the University of Rochester. Way to go, UR!

My grad school alma mater, UVa signed on. My undergrad school, VCU, has not as yet signed on. Maybe I can get a few alumnis to help me prod them.

You might want to add Canadian Universities to your list. My Alma Mater, University of Toronto, Engineering ’61, came out against the boycott, as did many others.
