Monday night Heroes/Lost thread

Post anything about tonight’s episode but spoilers in the comments.

On the subject of TV shows, I caught up on the Lost episode that I missed on Wednesday (taped it, but did not watch, due to creating my Mother’s Day movie and a heavy workload). I’d write a parody of the episode, but Lost is now parodying itself. Then again, I did warn people. It’s a J.J. Abrams creation. He’s the man who gave us Felicity and Alias. At least X-Files took seven years before I started saying, “That was a really stupid episode.” Lost has taken only three.

Feel free to discuss Lost in the comments, too, what with my just doing it. (Retitling post before saving.)

  1. I did not expect most of the things that happened today to happen.

Favorite line: “Didn’t I throw you out a window?”

Looks like Peter thinks the only way to stop Sylar is for him to blow them both up.

And it looks like Ando may not make it to season two. Boy, I hope that’s wrong.

  2. Jon says:

Good episode tonight. Looks like I was wrong about Molly and she will have something to do with stopping/finding Sylar next week. From how Hiro’s father talked about his former Justice League-esque squad, it sounds like he and Linderman are talking about each other when they say that the others “lost their way.”

Next season we get a mini Heroes spinoff called Heroes: Origins, which is a six-episode series that will supposedly run during the long hiatuses between episode blocs and feature several new heroes. Fans then get to vote on who they like the best and then that hero will become a full-time member of the show.

  3. Sabba Hillel says:

Actually, I think that things have already changed as a result of Hiro coming back. I only saw the end of the episode and just went through the recap stills. However, I do not see why Ted does not use his power to blast Sylar when he is being leeched. In any case, Peter should have every power that Sylar has leeched and should get an “update” on the rest that Sylar has leeched every time they meet.

  4. Peter says:

One thought I had watching Molly is that her ability is one that the heroes MUST keep out of Sylar’s bag of tricks. If he can locate anyone at will, it would just be a matter of time until he’s accumulated all of them.

Great episode, and next week’s looks even better…though based on Hiro’s short interview on the SciFi network’s news of the week email, he kept repeating that the episode was a ‘bomb’

  5. I can’t believe they’re going to destroy New York at the end of the first season. It sorta goes against the whole basis of the show: Their job is to STOP Sylar and the bomb. I still say Nathan’s going to grab Peter before he blows. I think Peter and Hiro (and everyone else) are going to team up to kill Sylar. Or at least, somehow render him powerless.

Nathan’s going to help save the world, and when he lands, Hiro is going to say to him “Now you hero again!” or something equally silly and endearing.

And now that Linderman is dead, there’s a new spider controlling the web that we haven’t yet met. In fact, there are probably a whole bunch of men and women of his generation (see: Mama and Papa Petrelli) with powers, behind the scenes. Good mutants vs. evil mutants, the staple of all good superhero stories. (And no J.J. Abrams in sight to ruin the plotlines!)

We thought that killing Ted would unleash the bomb. That didn’t happen. Sabba, he needs to concentrate on his power to use it, and I’m thinking he couldn’t concentrate very well while Sylar was cutting his head open.

I love the idea of Origins. Six extra episodes! Yes!

  6. marion says:

“What am I thinking now, Parkman?”
    “Your last thought.” BANG! BANG!

Peter and Sylar may have the most powers, but Daddy Bennet is the most badass. EXCELLENT. (No, I don’t think he’s going to kill Molly. Killing little girls isn’t badass.)

Walter Koenig had Bester, William Shatner has Denny Crane, and now George Takei has Kaito Nakamura. I think George wins – no need for him to become a scumbag onscreen for his second act! Looks to me as though he’s the Good Manipulator to Linderman’s Bad Manipulator. Speaking of the latter…ooooh, this show is cool. Somewhat gross, sometimes, but cool.

And it’s amazing how the writers can make me feel sympathy for characters I previously disliked WITHOUT coming across as ham-handed. I hated Candace before last night. HATED. Then, we get a bit of insight into what she she *really* looks like and why she’s working for Linderman, and we see her amazement at Micah’s powers…and boom, I don’t hate her QUITE as much. Still want to see her be the target of a Jessica/Niki smackdown, though.

The more Heroes, the better. Which reminds me – the new comic is up, and it’s about Hana Gitelman, the Israeli woman who can sense and control wireless information transmissions. Very cool.

  7. Jon says:

    Sabba:
While Peter’s powers are updated every time he meets Sylar, it doesn’t appear that he is aware of all of Sylar’s powers he may have leeched. We haven’t seen him react to having super hearing or super memory. Peter seems to be able to use a person’s passive power when he’s near them without knowing that they have the power (like when he turned invisible near Claude the first time). Since he hasn’t seen Sylar use some of his active powers (like freezing or metal melting), he doesn’t know that he also has those powers and probably won’t be able to use them until he sees Sylar using them.

It looks like future Sylar did not get Molly’s power, since if he did, he would have been able to find future Hiro pretty quickly. Also, he would still need to know about the hero he was trying to kill in order to find them (it doesn’t look like Molly can locate a random person whom she’s never met or seen). Without a new list from Mohinder, Sylar would have a hard time finding new heroes even if he had Molly’s power.

Does anyone think that Linderman might not actually be dead? Aside from the fact that he might be able to heal himself, since Candace is supposedly nearby (they were both on the 42nd floor), could the person DL killed be someone else made to look like Linderman?

  8. Sabba Hillel says:

I thought that Linderman was not on the 42nd floor since he said Micah was “on the 42nd floor” implying that he was on a different floor. I could have misheard it though.

If D. L. is now dead, then Sylar will not get the power and we see an obvious change from the future that we have already seen.

I still wonder what power Mama Pettrelli has. Also, the graphic novel implied that Pappa Petrelli did not have a power and was not aware of the powers when he met Linderman in Nam.

  9. The Doctor says:

    Mama Petrelli’s power…let’s see…

Clearly not the power to make Peter get a decent haircut

Could it relate to delayed detonation cannoli?

  10. Jon says:

Sabba: you’re right; I just rewatched that part and Bennett says Linderman is on the 51st floor.

I don’t think DL is dead. In order for them to change the future away from the bad one, Hiro has to be the one who sparks the change; if he doesn’t, everything will continue on the path that leads to the events we saw two episodes ago. Since Hiro has not done anything that would have affected DL since he returned from the future, it looks like DL and Jesiki were going to go kill Linderman anyway.

  11. The Doctor says:

Just watched it [god bless the Internet]. I can’t remember any scene yet that invokes the atmosphere of comics more than that last scene of Sylar standing over the city, in his best Jack Kirby pose with the flames coming from his hands…”Boom.”

    I love it!

By the way, isn’t it time for Sylar to start assembling the Brotherhood of Evil Watch Repairmen?

  12. Sabba Hillel says:

Actually, I think that the ripples are still spreading from the previous changes. It is quite possible that in the original in which Claire was killed very early, the entire set of events involving Bennet, Parkman, and Ted would be different and D. L. and Jessica would not have made it to New York.

Then again perhaps we are seeing the “Conservation of Events” in which changes tend to get pushed around so that certain events happen anyway.

Thus, we could see New York getting blown up, but not as badly as “originally”.. Perhaps “this time” Sylar does not replace Nathan or Parkman realizes who he is.

Perhaps Peter stays close to Claire rather than not knowing that she is alive.

    There are many possibilities.

An interesting final scene would be as the explosion lights up New York, it goes into slo-mo as Hiro freezes time and jumps back again for his next try during the second season.

Perhaps we see Ando lying on the sidewalk (dead) followed by a freeze frame of Hiro jumping in before Sylar kills him and pulling him away (alive again)

  13. Jon says:

I think we’ve already seen the “Conservation of Events” take place, since Isaac was killed by Sylar except a few days earlier than Hiro’s previous trip to the future. Events are still lining up for Sylar to take over as Evil Nathan.

If Ando ran off with the comic, then they won’t have the information they need to stop Sylar (unless it was in that one page that was on future Hiro’s jacket, and present Hiro still has it). Maybe Hiro shouting at Nathan that he is going to be a bad man will be enough to change the timeline.

  14. Sabba Hillel says:

Since Sylar has Isaac’s power, that would probably be what he uses to find new powers. However, the foretelling power seems to be uncontrolled and is subject to interpretation. It could just as easily lead him into his doom.

However, I think that he is supposed to be to the Heroes what the Master was to Dr. Who, the recurring and ongoing villain. I think that Peter is supposed to be the “anti-Sylar” as they both accumulate powers.

I would like to see Peter meet Molly and then keep tracking Sylar down.

I don’t think that Sylar can use Molly’s power to track down an unknown power. Molly has to at least have some idea who she is searching for (even if just a picture). Perhaps she may even have to meet them in order to get the first fix.

My favorite take on “Lost” is PvP’s:

    http://www.pvponline.com/article/3257/wed-apr-11

… though it’s probably too nerdcore for most people to get.

  16. Tat, it’s not too nerdcore. It was pretty funny.

Wound up reading all the strips from there to the present. Geez.

Guys, there’s still that part of the dream where Nathan picks up Peter and flies off with him. That’s what I think will stop him from destroying midtown.

  17. Jon says:

Meryl: what episode was that dream from? I don’t remember that.

  18. I don’t remember. Early on, I think. When Peter first started dreaming he was going to blow up.

Unless I’m putting two separate parts together.

  19. The Doctor says:

The most interesting part of Sylar eating Isaac is that he can look at his sketchbook and see what will and will not work…allows him to focus his energy on world domination schemes which will suceed “despite those meddling kids…”

  20. Jon says:

All the episodes are now back up on NBC.com. In Episode 12, Peter has the exploding dream again in the hospital, and right before he explodes, Nathan says “Let me help you,” but Peter blows up anyway and you see Nathan disintegrating.

  21. Sabba Hillel says:

    Doctor:

Since the pictures are not in context, I don’t think that he could figure out what will work based on the pictures. What if Hiro had tried to jump back to confront a real dinosaur.

  22. The Doctor says:

    Sabba,

That’s the out the writers have to keep him from using the pictures to avoid defeat. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting thought.

    Boom.
