Heroes thread

The first episode is online now, for those of you who missed it.

Time to catch up, and start talking about the show in the comments.

My first question: Anyone out there think that Ando is going to wind up having powers too?

No. He’ll probably get killed being a hero, though, since he doesn’t have any.

I’m also voting for Ando dying. Unfortunately, because I like him, and I love how he and Hiro interact.

Does the creepy dad have powers? What are the Haitian’s powers? (He seems to be a sink, in that he can block other people’s powers?) What about Micah? Does the lack of Mohinder voiceovers mean that the producers will dump the only thing I flat-out despise about the show?

I am really looking forward to the second half of this season, though it makes me worry a bit — after we stop a nuclear (?) explosion that destroys NYC, what else is there to do?

Also, more Ray Bradbury references and geeky debates about linguistics, please.

Heroes has been awesome so far.And no Ando is just a sidekick

  4. Sabba Hillel says:

I think Eden may have shot herself to prevent Syler from draining her power. However I only saw the 2 minute clip online. I do not like not being able to skip the commercials in the online version (unlike a tape).

I think the getting of the sword will be significant.

  5. The Doctor says:

I agree Eden shot herself; that’s why Syler had such a nasty look on his face at the last minute [I know, how could I tell?]

Ando has the power to provide sarcastic answers like any good sidekick; I reference the episode of the Tick where all the superheroes were in the big room at their awards ceremony and the sidekicks had to stay in a barn out back.

By the way, shouldn’t Sylar have been working on a Timex when he named himself? Then he could have given people’s brains a licking and kept on ticking…

    I’m just saying…

  6. Sabba Hillel, just sit through the commercials. You really want to see the entire episode.

Put something up in another window and do that until the commercial is over.

And yes, I’m pretty sure that’s what Eden did as well. What we can’t figure out is why her power didn’t work on him anymore.

  7. Eric J says:

I haven’t read it, but apparently the online comic makes it clear that Eden literally blew her own brains out to prevent Sylar from getting her power.

I agree that Ando doesn’t have powers and dies heroically. There’s been no indication of him in the future timeframe. My money’s on him being killed by Hiro’s sword just before it becomes Hiro’s sword. (+3 against Mutants?)

And I really hope they’re phasing out Mohinder’s voiceovers. (Or as I like to call him, Professor Zzzzz.) My other least favorite part? The recaps. Maybe they could get Stan Lee to do the recaps and voiceovers.

Oh, and coming soon, Christopher Eccelston! I can’t wait!

  8. Ezzie says:

Ando probably has something to do with the sword…

The Haitian has two powers: Blocking other powers, and wiping out people’s memories.

How did Sylar’s powers *not* work in the room beforehand, but suddenly they did? The dad also seems to have some kind of immunity to powers, but I’m not sure if that’s because the Haitian was around but we couldn’t see him.

Peter’s blowing up seems to have something to do with his brother coming closer to him. He seems to be more affected whenever he’s around…

I love the “what if I step on a bug?!” reference! Anyone else notice that? And remember the elections connection?

  9. The Doctor says:

In the comic it looked like they had Sylar in custody of the Haitian in the room when Eden’s body was found. That would make a huge difference…

In Peter’s dream when he blows up there are still election posters on the walls; when Hiro witnessed the bomb the newspaper was declaring Nathan’s victory.

Also in Peter’s dream he saw all the characters thus far; but he hasn’t met Nikki, DL, or the Kid yet…

BTW anyone notice we haven’t seen Nathan’s other power in a while? When he went into a diner wearing nothing but his PJ’s, asked for food and clothing, took them, then left without any means of payment? Then told the mafia woman to double the contribution and she did? Pretty handy for a politician and suspiciously similar to what Eden could do. Weird, huh?

  10. Sabba Hillel says:

I have a hunch that eventually all of them will get all the powers. I think that it is a matter of uneven development and the personality of the individual as to what power shows up as “first”. Eventually, they will trigger the other powers within each other. Remember when the policeman shot Sylar and he escaped. Similarly, when he woke up in the cell he had recovered completely from his major injuries. Those with flaws will die if they do not develop the healing power that Claire has.

It also seems as if he is compelled do try to fix the people that he encounters and may only kill the ones with a flaw

Based on the previews, I think that Peter dreamed himself in Syler’s position. It is similar to his dreams of flying when it is his brother with the power of flight.

BTW, I think that the security people brought money and food when they came to pick him up. Also the extra money from the mob was because “2 million buys you a candidate, 4 million buys you a congressman”.

Meryl: I have been taping the show and fast forwarding past the commercials. I find that easier than watching the episodes on line.

  11. Oh, I thought you meant you needed to watch the latest episode online.

If Haitian Guy was what kept Sylar’s powers in check, then it makes sense that he got them back at the end of the episode, what with Haitian Guy too busy blanking out high schoolers’ memories.

Ando is pretty much the only member of the “team” who has no powers. I’m not giving up on his having them too, not just yet.

That trip back in time to the T-Rex is going to be interesting.
