Saddam Hussein, condemned and afraid

If you watch this CNN video (story here), about halfway through, between Saddam Hussein’s bluster and calls of “allahu akbar,” you can see the realization sinking in that he has been condemned to die for his crimes. He is going to hang, like many of his victims were hanged. He’s going to die. He’s not going to be able to play to the world theater that his trial has become. His sons are dead; his daughter is an exile; his legacy will forever be cursed by his people.

And about halfway through the video, after he waves the book and says, “Damn you and your court,” he looks around, and you can see the beginnings of fear in his eyes. He looks to the right, and then he swallows. He start blinking, takes a breath, and launches into another tirade. But the bluster is meaningless, now, because you can see the fear in his eyes, in his face, in his posture. This is the posture of a defeated man, who knows he’s going to die, and that his theatrics are now the last gasps.

What’s that saying? A coward dies a thousand deaths, while the brave man dies just one.

Die a thousand deaths, Saddam. Sic semper tyrannis.

Good. Now stand him against a wall or dingle-dangle him from the gallows ASAP.

Let’s hope that Saddam has a short drop. It will take longer that way. Perhaps all of the people he caused to be butchered will appear to him and laugh in his face.
