Sure, Professor Pangloss

Talk about blindness:

The UN-declared cease-fire in Lebanon, if fully implemented, would be a strategic setback for Iran and Syria because it strengthens democracy in Lebanon and stabilizes the border with Israel, the State Department said Monday.

“You will not have Hizbullah roaming freely in the south of Lebanon,” spokesman Sean McCormack said. “Iran and Syria will not have had the ability to rearm Hizbullah.”

And that’s totally gonna happen. Because, gee, the UN resolution has teeth, the world really wants to see Hezbullah disarmed, and Iran and Syria aren’t going to do everything they can to screw it up so that Hezbullah is right back where they started.

Shyeah. And I’m the Easter Bunny.

I don’t even have a category for this. Lunacy? Stupidity?

Wow. Just—wow.

They say they will require filing of reports for every military incident that takes place.

I bet Hezbollah already has a thousand years of false reports ready for filing, none of which the UN will investigate before accusing Israel, because Hezbollah will not let them investigate, and the UN will not take the refusal to allow investigations as any sign that their reports may not be legit.

Actually, based on the previous actions of UNIFIL, the UN will probably help them set up the false reports. Besides, any reports from Israel will be stamped ignore

At least on its way down to oblivion the League of Nations actually did condemn the bad guys (Japan in Manchuria, Italy in Ethiopia, etc.) The UN acts as their apologist and enabler. It’s worse than impotent, it’s actively malevolent.

The irony is that by turning hostile to the USA the professional bureaucrats at the UN antagonized the one nation in the world that might have had the power and willingness to support their authority in doing what they are supposed to do. But they prefer to sink into corruption and irrelevance.
