Sarah Palin: Proof of malice

I told you those stories were pure bullshit. And here is your proof, via Hot Air.

I talked to Steve Biegun, the former Bush NSC aid who briefed Sarah Palin on foreign policy, and he considers the leaks against her on the international stuff “absurd.”

He says there’s no way she didn’t know Africa was a continent, and whoever is saying she didn’t must be distorting “a fumble of words.” He talked to her about all manner of issues relating to Africa, from failed states to the Sudan. She was aware from the beginning of the conflict in Darfur, which is followed closely in evangelical churches, and was aware of Clinton’s AIDS initiative. That basically makes it impossible that she thought all of Africa was a country.

On not knowing what countries are in NAFTA, Biegun was part of the conversation that led to that accusation and it convinces him “somebody is acting with a high degree of maliciousness.” He was briefing Palin before a Univision interview, and talking to her about trade issues. He rolled through NAFTA, CAFTA, and the Colombia FTA. As he talked, people were coming in and out of the room, handing Palin things, etc. She was distracted from what Biegun was saying, and said, roughly, “Ok, who’s in NAFTA, what’s the deal with CAFTA, what’s up the FTA?”—her way, Biegun says, of saying “rack them and stack them,” begin again from the start. “Somebody is taking a conversation and twisting it maliciously,” he says.

Still believe it? Or can you admit that Sarah Palin is not as stupid as you’d like to believe she is?

I think a lot of the malice directed at Palin is due to : People who spent a lot of time & money getting advanced degrees and very much resent the ability of someone to gain success without having done the same.

I further suspect that the squishier the degree in question, and the less value it has in the job market, the stronger to aforesaid resentment will generally be.

Maybe they are looking forward to 2012 and trying to discredit her so she won’t be the nominee.

Are anyone actually surprised that a backstabber like John McCain has a staff that’s a nest of venomous snakes?

I’d like to see the astroturfers like Jeff and Drew admit they’re wrong but that would be like waiting for Godot. They’ll either take a powder or come up with some other wacked-out inane conspiracy theory to “prove” they’re right.

  6. Ken Talton says:

Palin is a delegate to the NAFTA northwestern transportation/trade council…the actual name and acronym for which escapes me at the moment.

The “Palin is ignorant of NAFTA! ZoMG!1!!” stories are not just wrong they are obviously, indefensibly wrong and speak to the profound ignorance or malice (or both) of those peddling this asshattery.

  7. Drew says:

Gary … I have commented not at all about this “Palin & Africa” tempest in a teapot. In fact, I do not recall commenting on this or any other “wacked-out inane conspiracy theory” — from either side of the aisle. As for Governor Palin, I have not commented about her since before the election.

If I do “take a powder” after reading this blog for years and years, by the way, it will be only because it left me first. Meryl has been a great complement to Treppenwitz, Honest Reporting, CAMERA, and a number of others. But if she takes her blog in this new domestic direction (as is her right), LGF, Hot Air, Powerline, and others are all far better options for the same POV.

  8. She proved how stupid she is in the Couric interview.
So it doesn’t shock me one bit that she knows little about world geography.

  9. Jeff says:

Gary, Fine. Palin is a genius. I’m an idiot. Does that make you happy.

I am sure that Democrats are shaking in their boots about Palin 2012. And if Meryl wants to focus on domestic politics, that is her choice. At least she comes at it with a more moderate tone then other right wing blogs.

It’s funny how the insiders seem to want to help twist the knife the Big Media stuck in Sarah’s political future. Maybe McCain is plumping for Barry to nominate him as SecDef? Dream on, Mac.
