Israelly Cool! has reported on the preference of model Bar Raphaeli to stay away from Israel.

Well she was in the news again.

Police detained eight-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater early Saturday after a scuffle with photographers who were trying to take pictures of him with an Israeli supermodel, police said. Israeli photographers were waiting outside as the American surfer and model Bar Rafaeli left a hotel in the Tel Aviv suburb of Herzliya before dawn Saturday, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. Slater pushed the cameramen in an effort to prevent them from taking pictures, a photographer at the scene told Channel Two TV. “A brawl broke out and Slater was taken for questioning and later released,” Rosenfeld said.

Raphaeli brought Slater to Israel despite earlier problems when she came with Leonardo DiCaprio after which she said:

Rafaeli later told an Israeli newspaper she wouldn’t bring anyone famous to Israel “because there is a chutzpah here that you won’t see anywhere else.”

Apparently Slater’s visit didn’t accomplish what it was supposed to.

Slater, who is of Syrian descent, was visiting Israel for the first time as part of efforts by the group “Surfing for Peace” to promote reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians through the sport.

A snip in time

Israel isn’t just repairing hearts of foreign children. Israeli surgeons have been going to Swaziland to help fight disease. The Washington Post reported Israeli Surgeons Helping Swaziland in Drive to Curb HIV.

When I read that, I wondered how do surgeon fight HIV? When I read the article the answer became clear.

Beyond a wooden door a few feet away, two Israeli doctors donned blue hospital scrubs adorned with faded Hebrew script. Stepping into a modest room where only a dangling sheet separated the operating tables, they prepared to perform the world’s oldest surgery. So began Day 10 of an uncommon experiment in international assistance. Small teams of Israeli surgeons have begun circumcising Swazi men, deploying an ancient ritual in hopes of curbing the terrible modern malady of AIDS.

Yes, I suppose that Israelis would have a special expertise in that.

A particularly violent weekend in the Palestinian Arab territories

Readers of my blog know that I have been keeping a count of all Palestinian Arabs violently killed by each other. So far this year I have counted 556 deaths, including  33 women and 40 children.

The past few days have been particularly violent, with some 16 deaths since last Wednesday, not to mention numerous injuries and kidnappings. Details can be found here, here, here and here. The most newsworthy were “clan clashes” between the Fatah-affiliated Hillis family and Hamas, although there were also Hamas/Islamic Jihad fights and a number of other random political murders.

One must wonder why such a depraved corner of the planet, where the rate of terror and murder increased so dramatically after Israel withdrew from Gaza, “deserves” its own state? Yet somehow there appears to be nothing that Palestinian Arabs can do to derail the West’s insistence on helping them with their goal of destroying Israel by creating yet another terror state.
