The distilled form of evil

Via Mick Hartley.

“The disgusting form of evil”. This is how Canada’s former secretary of state for the Asia Pacific region David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas called harvesting organs from unwilling live prison inmates, that seems to become a common practice in China.

China’s military is harvesting organs from unwilling live prison inmates, mostly Falungong practitioners, for transplants on a large scale - including to foreign recipients- according to a study.

The report’s authors - Canada’s former secretary of state for the Asia Pacific region David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas - implicated dozens of hospitals and jails throughout China in July, after a two-month investigation.

Chinese officials denied those allegations.

Mr Matas and Mr Kilgour’s second report, released today, includes interviews with organ recipients in 30 countries and Canadian hospital staff who cared for more than 100 patients who had undergone suspicious transplant surgeries in China.

“The involvement of the People’s Liberation Army in these transplants is widespread,” Mr Kilgour said at a press conference.

The atrocity that hitherto was a fodder for science fiction stories and movies and, according to some sporadic rumors, a side line of business for some criminals*, became now an established procedure in a country that is practically unassailable for any transgression of basic human rights. I can understand that in their fury David Kilgour and David Mata offer a solution that will punish the wrong side:

They also asked countries to post travel advisories warning about China’s alleged organ harvest, asked states to cease offering follow-up care for patients who had dubious organ transplants in China…

The authors said states should enact legislation to ban citizens from traveling to China for organ transplants from unwilling donors, although they admitted that such cases would be difficult to prosecute.

I can understand their drive to stop the unspeakable, but to punish sick and dying people, who in their despair are ready to do anything for their salvation, is not the way. The only moral and just way to stop the atrocity is to punish the perpetrators. An while our life on this planet is dictated by realpolitik, there will be no stopping the evil.

(*) The only case that was undertaken by some of the media seriously was the persistent rumor that Israeli doctors are harvesting organs from Palestinian children. In this case one cannot blame the press (some of it, at least) for being indifferent.

Grow the eff up, and learn how to be responsible for what you write. Failing that, don’t write something that could come back and bite you in the ass.

Shorter-shorter Meryl: Don’t blog angry.

Update: Looks like they took my advice. I’m two for two this week.

Toldja so.

It took Ahmadinejad only a day to get his message out.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel’s excavation work at the Mugrabi gate near the Temple Mount was a “provocative action which would lead to the deterioration of hostilities in the region,” the Fars news agency reported Wednesday evening.

[...] He also called on the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the world Muslim states to “foil the devilish plot of the Israeli regime,” and slammed the United Nations over what he described as “their silence in the face of the incident.”

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini echoed Ahmadinejad’s statement, claiming that “the destruction of al-Aqsa was part of a premeditated plot against Muslims.”

STFU, Gorilla Boy. You are tiresome and predictable.

Syrian dorktator affirms his support for terrorists

So, all those people saying that Israel should sit down and work out a peace with Syria? I’m thinking they’re not working on the same plane as you and I, because the Dorktator has been perfectly clear that he’s going to continue his proxy war against Israel via Hamas and Hezbullah.

Syrian President Bashar Assad vowed to keep supporting Hizbullah and Hamas despite US pressure on Syria to stop backing the groups, Baath Party members familiar with a speech the Syrian leader gave on Wednesday said.

[...] “The president was clear that Syria’ s support for the two movements will continue and that their resistance to regain occupied land was a legitimate right,” Baath Party member Mostafa al-Meqdad told Reuters.

Did you see his interview with Diane Sawyer? He even has a totally wussy voice. I think I could probably take him. Well, if his bodyguards weren’t around.

Blame the father, not the children

This is wrong.

The children of an Austrian rabbi who attended an Iranian conference that questioned the Holocaust have been expelled from their school and told no other Jewish school in Austria will take them, their father said Tuesday.

Moishe Arye Friedman said he has begun legal proceedings against the school. He said his four school-age children were told to leave Monday.

Friedman showed a letter with school letterhead that explained that one of the reasons for the expulsions was his “outrageous behavior” in attending the Holocaust conference last month.

The father is a scumbag. But his children don’t deserve to be punished for his actions.
