Cutting straight to the point

Where the press has its priorities today…

My inbox just got 15% dumber:

CNN:
– Britney Spears files for divorce from her husband Kevin Federline, citing irreconcilable differences.

KHOU:
A court spokeswoman says Britney Spears has filed for divorce from rapper-dancer Kevin Federline, citing irreconcilable differences.

YAHOO:
A court spokeswoman says Britney Spears has filed for divorce from rapper-dancer Kevin Federline, citing irreconcilable differences.

Al-JAZEERAH:
Saddam returns to court to face Kurds
Saddam Hussein has returned to court to face charges of genocide against Iraq’s Kurds, two days after another panel sentenced him to death for crimes against humanity. Saddam, wearing a black suit and white shirt with a handkerchief, entered the court and took his seat quietly among the other six defendants on Tuesday.

*sigh* It’s a sad day when Al-Jazeerah has the least worthless alerts.

About that humanitarian disaster in Gaza…

Solomonia has a picture on his blog that makes me think that maybe, just maybe, the pals are lying about the lack of food, starvation, malnutrition, humanitarian disaster, etc., etc., etc.

Because the picture is of palestinians throwing eggs at the UN building in Gaza City to protest the Saddam Hussein verdict.

Yet another one to remember when the UN cries its crocodile tears about the horrible humanitarian disaster that is isn’t Gaza.

The world says Israel should make peace with this:

Hamas is now sending out press releases containing their terror report for the day.

Lovely people. Sure, Israel should absolutely deal with them as if they were partners in peace.

2 a.m. – Qassam launched
At night – Maadi Khaled al-Khamadin killed
7:10 a.m. – Qassam launched at Sderot
12:25 p.m. – Mortar shells fired at IDF forces in Beit Hanoun
1:30 p.m. – Two RPG rockets and Yassin antitank missile fired at Israeli armored forces in Beit Lahiya
2:10 p.m. – Qassam launched at Sderot
3 p.m. – Police officer Atef Kahlut killed in Beit Lahiya battle
5:10 p.m. – Snipers fire at IDF soldiers
6:35 p.m. – Qassam launched at Zikim
7:15 p.m. – antitank missile fired at IDF force
7:33 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. – Qassam launched at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai and Kibbutz Zikim
At night – Raid Abed al-Aal killed in Jabalya after being hit by a missile fired from a helicopter.

Presented for you, matter-of-fact, as if these were the most normal operations in the world. Gee, it’s just like the minutes of any organization, right? Any organization full of murdering Islamic fascists, that is.

Of course, we can look at the one positive side: These reports will make it far easier for bloggers to keep track of the number of terror attacks Hamas launches on Israel.

Another way to use women - the sequel

It did not take a long time to happen. First, the women are unashamedly used to protect the bandits hiding in a mosque. Then, with assistance of sympathetic media, the story is presented as a case of IDF intentionally shooting at women.

And now the next step - adding another myth in the saga of Palestinian “martyrs”. Comes in the infamous Aljazeera.com with a histrionic headline:

Palest. women martyrs against the Israeli occupation

In another episode of protesting against the belligerent occupation of the Israeli forces to the Palestinian territories, we see not male resistance fighters being killed, but the women of Palestine, desperate to shield their men; sons, husbands, fathers, and brothers from the Israeli murderers.

Yes, indeed - a shameless attempt to create a smoke and mirrors screen around one of the more brazen stories of blatant and calculated use of women to shield the terrorists.

And you know what: being familiar with the dynamics of Palywood propaganda machine, I am certain that this attempt will succeed. In a few months we’ll see another one of the Palestinian alphabet soup of countless gangs of “martyrs” proudly bearing the name like “Women martyrs of Beit Hanoun”.

Gracie update 16

She has spent most of the last 24 hours sleeping in my laundry basket, which is, er, full of laundry. Today when I get home, I’m going to switch her to the rag basket. I need to wash clothes.

She ate yesterday, nothing so far this morning. Well, no wet food. I’m pretty sure she was downstairs eating dry food at 5:30, because that’s when noise from downstairs (I told you I’m a light sleeper) woke me up. That, or the dream about the tidal-wave-height high tides I was dreaming about.

Tig has been leaving her alone while she’s in the basket. He was a brat to her yesterday, and he and I had words about it. But he’s easing off.

I’m going to have to take Gracie to the kitty plastic surgeon. She lost so much weight so fast she has folds of skin hanging over her legs. And one of her legs seems crooked. I don’t know how she got bowlegged, but she did. She seems to walk with a limp now. It’s not the paw that had the IV in it, either.

Waiting on the labs, but otherwise, she seems happy. And except for not eating much, healthier.

Chris Busby and the Independent are full of crap

Remember when the British paper The Independent said that sampled from bomb craters in Lebanon showed signs of depleted Uranium as part of a rumored “DIME” weapon developed by the Israelis?

The craters, at Khiam and At-Tiri, were caused by Israeli heavy or guided bombs and showed “elevated radiation signatures,” the Independent quoted Chris Busby, the British scientific secretary of the European Committee on Radiation Risk, as saying.

The United Nations did extensive testing and found… nothing:

UN experts have found no evidence to support a press report that Israel used depleted uranium (DU) munitions during the July-August conflict in Lebanon, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has said.

“The samples taken by the UNEP scientists show no evidence of penetrators or metal made of DU or other radioactive material,” UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner said in a statement Tuesday.

“In addition, no DU shrapnel, or other radioactive residue was found. The analysis of all smear samples taken shows no DU, nor enriched uranium nor higher than natural uranium content in the samples.”

So, which is denser:

  • Depleted Uranium?
  • Chris Busby and his so-called research?
  • The Indepentent for peddling his crap?

Of course, the UN will continue to test and the Muslims and anti-Semitic NGOs will shout that the fact that no evidence was found doesn’t mean the weapons don’t exist… or weren’t used on women and children going about their daily lives, tra la la la la.

And yet, these same entities are the same ones who point to the lack of discovery of actual nuclear weapons in post-Saddam Iraq means that there was no weapons of mass destruction development programme.

Since a report exonerating Israel goes against everything the United Nations stands for, they had to slip in an attack somehow… somewhere…

The investigation confirmed that Israel had used artillery and mortar ammunition containing white phosphorus, the statement said.

Israel says that none of its weapons are illegal and acknowledged on October 22 that it used the phosphorus.

Human rights groups have long argued that phosphorus weapons, which cause agonising injuries, should be banned under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

I’ll leave the whole “Lebanon/Hezbollah/Iran fired weapons at civilian population centers with the intention of harming and terrorizing civilians while Israel specifically targeted terrorist bunkers, weapons caches, command centers, and transportation routes” fact for others to hammer home. Just look at a map of strikes upon Beirut and strikes upon Northern Israeli towns and do the math.

I’ve got my tea to brew.

Andrew Sullivan logic and the Virginia Marriage Amendment

Posted on November 7th, 2006 at 8:19 am by Meryl Yourish.

If I were to use Andrew Sullivan’s logic, I’d vote for the Virginia Marriage Amendment today.

From the post quoted by Sullivan:

The invasion failed at every level: if securing Israel was part of the administration’s calculation—as the record suggests it was for several of his top aides—the result is also clear: the strengthening of Iran’s hand in the Persian Gulf, with a reach up to Israel’s northern border, and the elimination of the most powerful Arab state that might stem Iranian regional hegemony.

From Sullivan, after quoting this drek:

Yes, there’s the usual anti-Semitic undertow here. It’s Buchanan’s posse. At the same time, on the simple facts on the ground, is any of this even debatable at this point? Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, we have to repudiate this administration’s disastrous incompetence, or face even greater perils than we have been exposed to already. Tomorrow’s the day. Do not be silent.

So, if I vote for George Allen, who supports the Marriage Amendment, then I can use the same logic. I guess I can call it Sullivan logic. Sure, the marriage amendment is anti-gay, which means Allen is a little anti-gay, but that’s the usual conservative undertow here. The more important issue is that I support the war in Iraq, and so does George Allen. I can just ignore that little anti-gay bigotry, just as Sullivan is ignoring the anti-Semitism of the Buchanan crew.

After all, I’m not gay. No one in my family is gay. The Marriage Amendment doesn’t affect me. Just like Sullivan isn’t Jewish, so a little anti-Semitism by the Buchananites doesn’t affect him. Right?

Right?

Anyone else with me on this one?

No, I’m not going to vote for the Marriage Amendment. I am most decidedly voting against it. But Sullivan logic says that I should.

It’s going to be a tough decision for me today. Vote for myself, or vote for Allen. Sully’s pushed me a tad more towards Allen. I had no idea anyone could make me not vote for myself, but then, I’m not a big fan of excusing bigotry. Now the big question is, if I vote for Allen, is it excusing bigotry, or is it payback for Sullivan excusing anti-Semitism?

Decisions, decisions.

Vote for me today!

Don’t forget, I’m running as a write-in candidate for Virginia Senate.

Or, like some of my readers, if you’re in Jim Moron’s district, feel free to write me in against him, too.

I’ll have you know I won, hands-down, against Allen and Webb during the poll at assembly Sunday in religious school. So yes, I’ve got the too-young-to-vote vote. Watch out, George and Jimmy. I’m catching up!
