The future is getting closer all the time.

Artificial sperm have been used to create living animals for the first time, in an experiment that promises to pave the way for a new era of fertility treatment.

Seven mouse pups, six of which survived to adulthood, were born in a laboratory in Germany after scientists fertilised eggs with sperm that had been grown from embryonic stem (ES) cells.

The births provide the strongest evidence yet that it will eventually be possible to use ES cells to treat infertile men who make no sperm of their own.

[...] Other experiments have suggested that artificial eggs can be made in the same way, though no offspring have yet been born.

In the longer term, it may even prove possible to produce sperm from female stem cells, and eggs from male ones, allowing homosexual couples to have children that bear the genes of both parents.

This would also enable a single man or woman to provide both the sperm and eggs needed to create an embryo, so that a person could essentially mate with himself or herself.

We have seen the future, and we are all—unnecessary.

The creation of “male eggs” and “female sperm”, however, still faces difficult technical barriers, as embryos need genetic material from both a mother and a father to develop normally.

Phew. Maybe not quite yet.

Unsolicited blogging advice, Part 2

Say, bloggers, here’s a thought:

You know that little checkbox on your Blogger or Typepad or whatever template that says, “Open all links in a new window”?

Uncheck it.

I just went to a blog that won’t let you so much as go to the main page of the blog without opening up a new window. I will never return to that blog.

The only time you see that here is when Snoopy posts. I figure you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Or, once in a while, I’ll have a link open in its own window. But overall, I expect my readers to be able to figure out how to get back here on their own (the back button, or right-click menu, I would imagine).

But to have your own main page open in a new window? Comments, too?

Uncheck. The. Box.

One of the titles in Times Online says it all about Omar Brooks: Once a friendly Christian, he now backs the bombers. I don’t know about his prior friendliness, but today he is a leading Islamic comedian, according to this.

The audience laughs as Omar Brooks, a British Muslim convert who also uses the name Abu Izzadeen, makes fun of non-Muslims as “animals” and “cowards”.

At one point he announces dramatically that the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center “changed many people’s lives”. After a pause, he brings the house down by adding: “Especially those inside.”

There is more where it comes from, but that’s enough, I think. Deborah thinks that these quotes simply do not warrant any comments and speak volumes for themselves. I agree, with addition of a proposal based on the following quote:

…he told an audience of teenagers and young families that he did not want to go to Allah while sleeping in his bed “like an old woman”. Instead, he said: “I want to be blown into pieces with my hands in one place and my feet in another.”

No worries, mate. I think this object, applied to a correct orifice, should solve your problems. Should be a great exit act for an aspiring comedian, too.

Iraqi thoughts on Israel vs. Hamas

From Iraq the Model:

“From following the participations I am gaining more faith in the maturity of thinking of my Iraqi brothers. Thank God.
And to Olmert I say: Go forward and abolish the fountains of terror in Gaza”
A free Iraqi: Baghdad.

I just want to say that I stand in admiration and respect for the nation that wouldn’t mind destroying the world for the sake of her sons’ safety; a nation that doesn’t care about the consequences for their operations in Gaza as long as the soldier is still kidnapped and has to be set free.

Let Arabs and Muslims learn how human life is highly valued in all non-Arab, non-Muslim countries”
Hassan al-Shami: Baghdad/Iraq

I am ready to be convinced that not all Muslims hate Israel. Omar says that the number of positive remarks from Iraqis greatly outnumbered those from the rest of the Arab world:

About three dozens of comments were made by Iraqis both inside Iraq and in exile and all these comments were supportive of Israel or at least against Hamas as far as the topic is concerned except for only three comments; that’s a 10:1 ratio while as you probably have guesses, the opposite ratio is true about the comments by the rest of Arabs.

And this one is especially good:

“To answer Mr. Jihad (the Palestinian from Jordan) and his advice for Iraqis: Iraqis are singing outside the Arab flock for one reason which is that they distinguish the truth from the Arab illusions. Only 13 years ago Iraqis used to speak like the rest of Arabs; equipped with the illusions of the “Zionist conspiracy” created by Islamists and pan-nationalists. But Iraqis now have discovered the bitter truth. Who is murdering Iraqis on daily basis?? Who is prolonging the stay of foreign troops? That’s the terrorists coming from Arab and Islamic countries!!

Israel doesn’t want to become the “Great Israel” because Israelis are only several millions in this world…

We are people with long history that we are proud of and we possess enough education and awareness, so long live the new Iraq and let Israel live as our neighbor. I’d love to say that I wish Israel could rule the entire region; better than any Arab government except for the Iraqi”
An Iraqi in exile: Asia.

The Butcher of Beslan has been blown away, but…

Russia finally wiped out the Butcher of Beslan:

FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev said Basayev, who claimed responsibility for the 2004 Beslan school attack in which 331 people, half of them children, were killed, was planning an attack to coincide with Russia hosting the G8 summit of world leaders this weekend.

In a televised meeting with Patrushev, Putin described Basayev’s death as “deserved retribution” for Beslan and other attacks.

This is deserved retribution against the bandits for our children in Beslan, in Budennovsk, for all these acts of terror they committed in Moscow and other Russian regions, including Ingushetia and Chechnya,” Putin said, according to Reuters.

“Deserved retribution?”

What did Putin say after Yassin and Rantisi were assassinated by Israel? I don’t remember hearing “deserved retribution” back then.

What has Putin said about the possibility of wiping out bloody-handed Hamas warlords Khaled Meshal or Ismail Haniyeh? I don’t remember hearing “deserved retribution” about it.

And what has Putin said about keeping mass-murderer Marwan Barghouti alive? Has anyone heard “deserved retribution” regaring him?

Not to mention any attempt against Arafat before he became the AIDS-infected corpse buried in the parking lot of the Mukata in Ramallah, of course.

Hamas admits Shalit is a POW

Call in the Red Cross. Or start shouting about the violations of international law: Khaled Mashaal, the leader of Hamas, has admitted that Cpl. Gilad Shalit is a POW.

Mashaal told a press conference in Damascus that Shalit, captured by terrorists linked to his group is a “prisoner of war and international conventions and laws should be applied to his case.”

“Our goals and our morals command us to keep the soldier alive,” he stressed.

Actually, although I don’t believe Hamas comes with morals, with that public admission come all the responsibilities of treating him like a POW. That means moving him to a proper prison for POWs, allowing the Red Cross to examine and question him, giving him certain treatments in accordance with the Geneva Convention.

I will not, of course, hold my breath waiting for the ICRC and Human Rights Watch to insist on visiting the prisoner and making sure he is not being harmed.

To our Arab colleagues

Perusing the satirical content of the Arab newspapers is a thankful job, due to unquestionably colorful material, the broad brushstroke, the freedom of expression that reigns there. At least where the Jooz are concerned. Ynet has done a good job selecting some more brilliant examples of creativity.

Being of an open mind and friendly demeanor, the Elders’ Hasbara department decided to help our colleagues with some minor technical details that may create an impression of shallowness on the side of the cartoonists, if not corrected in time.

To start with this cartoon. It is supposed to depict the rivers of Palestinian blood, no need to explain who is the culprit.
Two remarks:

  1. The color of blood should be more… er… bloody
  2. Zionists do not regard blood with such slothfulness. Jooz will never let the blood flow away free. From time immemorial the blood spilled by enemies of the Jooz is regarded and treated as a vital resource. We collect it separately, according to the age, gender and health state of the deceased enemy. Nothing is lost.

The next cartoon. This cartoon is delicately hinting that the Jooz perpetrate their usual unspeakable behind the smokescreen of the Mondial. That’s true, of course: there is no better smokescreen than Zinedine Zidan headbutting an opponent. But please, do not come to a hasty conclusion re Zidan. He is not our agent, just a puppet of our mind control techniques. As are many others. Definitely all the judges, to start with. You may have experienced that sense of total bewilderment by some of their decisions, so now you understand the reasons.

But the important point is that we do not restrict our dastardly acts to football. You should have seen our mind control team in action during the last Olympics! So keep it in mind and try to develop a broader view.

Now to the last one.

That Palestinian dove - shouldn’t it excrete Qassams instead of eggs on that cartoon?
