Ariel Sharon: Friday update

Ariel Sharon was operated on for more bleeding in the brain. He’s out of surgery and awaiting another CT scan, according to Ynet. He’s reported in stable condition.

The Arab media appear to be holding off the celebrations for some reason.

Shimon Peres, the former Labor leader who joined Sharon’s Kadima party, is giving his support to Ehud Olmert. This is a big one: Polls indicate Peres would pull more votes as head of Kadima than Olmert. But that’s not what Kadima wants–a “senior figure” says the party would fall apart if Peres took the reins.

Labor has suspended its primary and election activities.

World reaction to Sharon’s illness: The Pope says he’s praying for “peace in the Holy Land,” but didn’t say anything about Sharon.

And last, an analysis in the Jerusalem Post that also says Israel will survive–and be led by Ehud Olmert.
