Denial is a river in Egypt: One Wikileak cable says that the PA and Egypt were asked to assume control of Gaza if Israel cleared out Hamas. Both refused. Now, of course, both are denying that any such talks occurred. But I’m thinking if they’re denying, they’re surely lying.

Goldberg v. Sullivan, again: Jeffrey Goldberg points out that the Wikileaks cable prove that it isn’t just Israel that wants to bomb bomb bomb Iran. Typically, Andrew Sullivan then slams Goldberg, who hits back (and scores!). Advantage: Goldblog.

And the Keen Grasp of the Obvious Award goes to: Mad Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, for finally admitting that saboteurs are affecting the Iranian drive to nukes.

“They had been successful in making problems for a limited number of our centrifuges, with software they had installed in electronic devices,” Ahmadinejad told a news conference, referring to Iran’s enemies. He said the sabotage has been solved.

Shyeah. Solved. That’s why one of the top Iranian Stuxnet experts got blowed up real good just the other day. Because Iran didn’t need him anymore.

His acknowledgment came after a report Tuesday by the International Atomic Energy Agency said that as of Nov. 16, Iran had stopped feeding hot uranium gas into its thousands of centrifuges and that the shutdown could have lasted as long as seven days.

When asked specifically, Ahmadinejad refused to comment on whether a computer worm known as Stuxnet had been responsible.

“Write this down,” Ahmadinejad said. “The Iranian president’s answer to this question is: silence. That’s it.”

The de-Judaizing of Israel: Now the Palestinians are saying that the Kotel has nothing at all to do with Jewish history. So, all the archeologists who say that it’s the remnants of the Temple retaining wall are wrong, and Palestinian “scholars” are right. Of course. Watch for UNESCO to back them up on this one. And get a load of this bullshit: Making up facts in action.

He added that the Jews had never used the site for worship until the Balfour Declaration of 1917.

“This wall was never part of the so-called Temple Mount, but Muslim tolerance allowed the Jews to stand in front of it and weep over its destruction,” he wrote. “During the British mandate in Palestine, the number of Jews who visited the wall increased to a point where the Muslims felt threatened, and then there was the Al-Buraq Revolution on August 23, 1929, where dozens of Muslims were martyred and a large number of Jews were killed.”

Sure. These are the people who want peace with Israel. At least, until they can use their new state to destroy the Jewish one.

The CSM: Hamas’ PR tool. This article on Gazan “collaborators” could have been written by Hamas. It doesn’t touch upon torture and false accusations until the second page, and this is the closest it comes to thinking that maybe, just maybe, Hamas isn’t arresting only “collaborators.”

Because of the secrecy surrounding the campaign, it is also unclear whether the government is using it to punish political enemies. Younis says he has not heard complaints of this, though the intelligence source said many of those arrested belonged to Fatah.

This is why I loathe so much reporting about Israel (or, frankly, about almost anything) these days. There is no real investigation, only a mild “Let’s get someone to refute this” quote. I worked harder on my investigative reports in effing college than these people do as professionals.

How do I bias thee? Let me count the ways. A nation is allowed to bar people for entering it for pretty much any reason under the sun. But not Israel. Israel banned anti-Israel propagandist Mairead Corrigan Maguire, who calls Israel an apartheid state and tried to break the Gaza blockade (the latter is what caused the ban). So what does the AP headline the story? “Israeli court scolds Nobel winner.” Here’s the lead:

An Irish Nobel peace laureate accused Israel of being an “apartheid” state during a deportation hearing before the country’s Supreme Court Monday, prompting a strong rebuke from a justice who told her to keep her “propaganda” to herself.

And she’s not just a propagandist. She’s a liar.

Jody Williams of the Nobel Women’s Initiative, which sponsored the delegation, denied they were aware of the ban. But earlier in the year, Israel’s foreign ministry denied the group’s appeal to ease the ban and let Maguire take part in the delegation that arrived last week.

Got it? They claim they weren’t aware of the ban, and yet, they appealed to the foreign ministry to lift the ban. Liars. Israel-haters. That about sums it up.

And the dog ate their homework: Speaking of liars, the Iranians are now saying that “a small leak” is what’s stopping Bushehr from starting—not the Stuxnet worm. (The worm is now becoming my daily “hmmm” while perusing the news.) In one of the articles I’ve read, the start-up date for Iran’s nukes is now 2014. Something sure as hell happened, and it wasn’t good for Iran. I salute the Stuxnet programmers, no matter who they were. And I also hope that the good guys have taken note and are now protecting their systems from the same thing happening. (P.S.: I don’t buy the “myrtus=Esther” line of whodoneit. It’s too much of a reach.)
