Unaddressed in all this is a different question. Suppose that ugly logo did unmistakably spell “Zion”.

So what? No, really — so what?

Are the Iranians claiming that, by attending an event with a logo that can be misread as “Zion”, they will be converted to Zionism against their will, and will all want to start kibbutzim and wear funny hats and sandals? Or do they think that the Zionists are not-so-secretly controlling the Olympics, bribing the judges and circumcising the competitors, but that if we just change the logo everything will be fine again? (That would suggest that Zionists can’t control an event that doesn’t have a Jewish word in the title somewhere. Pretty weak world-conquerors, those evil Zionists.)

Our hostess is right; this does not pass the giggle test.

I think everyone should boycott them because, speaking as a graphics designer of 25 years experience, I must say that logo is beyond horrible. If any of my people handed that in to me I’d assume they were playing one of their little pranks on the boss.

I think you’re missing the depth of this plot. Ignore the logo. 2012 spells ZION.

I wonder how they arranged that. Are the Mayans the lost tribe?

These amateurish attempts at explanation are laughable. Clearly, the mullahs have scholars who devote their lives to studying such symbols for traces of Creeping Zionism – many of them do not even sleep, and eat only doe-eyed virgins after Friday prayers.

Who should we believe? Some internet wag’s instant analysis, or the measured judgment of a man who hasn’t shaved or bathed in fifty years? I humbly submit that if the scholar’s opinion is as strong as his odor, it cannot be denied, or covered up with decadent Jooish hygiene products.
