According to reports at TheYeshivaWorld.com and elsewhere, at least one bomb was sent to Or Chadash, a gay/lesbian synagogue that rents space at reform Temple Emmanuel. Both congregations are politicially ultra-liberal. This could be a two-fer or more-fer: the killers get to target Jews, Zionists (identical, in their minds), homosexuality, and western liberal attitudes toward sex and sexuality. Meanwhile, Juan Cole says that whenever Al Qaeda says Jews it really means Israelis, and speculates that this synagogue was chosen because Obama’s Jewish advisors have ties to Chicago. Cole says if that’s the case, Al Qaeda, who (no matter what Al Qaeda says)really hates only Israelis, not Jews, made a big mistake because Obama’s advisers are good Jews (my term, not COle’s) who are trying to stop the expansion of settlements, and because the members of these congregations probably feel the same way.

Some people don’t like to acknowledge reality, no matter how undeniable.

I live in the Chicago-area. My guess is that those ‘packages’ were headed to shuls in ‘Islamabad on the Lake’-also known as West Rogers Park. It’s on chicago’s far north side and it has large concentrations of both Haredi and islamists.
I used to live in that neighborhood and it wouldn’t surprise me if AQ had a contact-or two-with in that community.
