Employment? The Israeli settlers left behind millions of dollars in state of the art greenhouses that could have provided employment, food, and export money for Gazans, except, of coruse, that within twenty-four hours of the withdrawal Gazans had destroyed them all. At one time many Gazans had employment in Israel but the Israelis stopped that after too many Gazans crossed the border intending not to work but to kill as many Israelis as possible.

As usual, and this has been the motif of a great deal of post-1948 Palestinian history, the Palestinians destroy and then blame Israelis.

Instead of countering the “seige” argument, it ought to be part of the discussion that Gaza is being blockaded by TWO countries. No freedom of movement? Let the Egyptians open their border. Focusing solely on Israel compounds the perception problem of it being an Israeli-palensinian problem, when the fact of the matter is that the palestinians are treated far worse by the rest of the Arab world than they are by the Israelis. Expelled from Kuwait, second class residents of Jordan… not even citizens… kept in squalid camps in Lebanon… and the world focuses on Israel?
