Kev, Maine coons tend to have big feet. It’s part of their charm. And they have fur between their toes. That’s not part of their charm. That’s a major pain in the ass when clipping claws. But he only weights sixteen pounds. Tig 2 was bigger. This one is a very long cat. Tig the first was the fattest Tig. I put him on a diet when he reached twenty pounds and his belly fur started brushing the ground.

I blame myself. I believe that a fat cat is a happy cat. All of my cats are happy.

Well, perhaps not a coat, but a scarf or some mittens are possible. Try a Google search on the terms “pet fur spinning yarn”. There are a fair number of folks who will take the results of your brushing Tig and make yarn…and from there, anything you want. Might take a while to gather enough material, but I’ll bet he loves to be brushed, so it’s a win-win.

I would do this, but I have devons, who are very short haired…it would take years to gather enough to make anything significant.

It’s that marvelous Maine coon cat coat. It protects him against the cold AND the heat. I want one. (But not at the cost of a kitty’s life. Perhaps I should collect his sheddings and make a sweater.)
