Auden didn’t have this in mind, but it’s apt. I take a bit of solace from the thought that generally countries that force out their Jews do not improve for it. On the other hand, the people providing the impetus for the coming Jewish exodus aren’t concerned with values like hard work, creativity, and abiding by the law.
