FWIW, I’m using a pretty nice looking analog watch that my employer gave me as a 10-years-of-service gift. I like the heavy weight of the stainless steel case and band.

I looked up the model number and found that it’s only sold in Eastern Europe (I guess that’s what happens when you work for a multi-national corporation.) At the time I got it, only one web site sold it. After converting the price from zlotys, it came to about $200. A pretty nice service award, but definitely something I would never have bought with my own money.

Before I got this watch, I used nothing but el-cheapo digital watches.

Hear hear! I have a watch, as well. It is a Timex from around 1975, with “tech-style” numbers and a little window for the date. I bought it for a dollar at an auction, paid nine times that for a band of leather, and carefully wind it each morning before I stuff it in the watch pocket of my blue jeans.

And, when I want to know what time it is, I ask somebody else, since my watch is seldom accurate. But it’s my watch, and I’m sticking with it.

“Dream timepiece,” indeed.

My time piece is my cell phone. Most people I know under 40 do not wear watches.

Under $20 …. faux-brush-gold cheepie big-faced (gold tint, of course) rolex-design with faux-diamond-embedded hands plus hair-thin second hand (cannot be seen w/o glasses – but who cares?) …. bought it (and 2 replacement batteries) 8 yrs ago at Walmart and it keeps on ticking — now THAT (plus my gmail-spam filter) is a dream timepiece!
