Consider the milestone as triggered by events rather than an arbitrary year count. Also consider the birthday by the real calendar that we live by rather than the nonJewish one that the rest of the world uses.

I’m sorry about your mother – do you think a misheberach (or several) might help? Tell her the blogosphere is wishing her well!

(My mother had a TIA shortly before my son’s bar mitzvah & didn’t tell me until afterward… didn’t want me to worry. She made it to the simcha, but she & my dad were both in ICUs just a few weeks later… Long, awful story.)
