My Fats probably has more hair, longer at least, and stretches out nearly 3 1/2 feet when in full sprawl. But they could be litter mates, they look that much alike. The only time he’s mean is when I go to pull my hand away after scratching his belly, he grabs my hand with his paws to keep me from stopping, with the claws out, naturally!

Huge? Just lots of fur, our S. weighs up to 8 kg (almost 18 pounds) and looks smaller that Tig, and he will eat Tig for breakfast any time.

Given his lifestyle and behavior towards Gracie I think Tig must be a Sultan. Tig is the Sultanate of Ailurastan.

Ailurus, if I’ve spelled it correctly, is ancient Greek for cat. A paleontologist who taught a class I was in and who had discovered what he considered to be the ur-cat in the Black Hills of South Dakota, named it Thomas felisailurus. I don’t know if he got the name to stick, the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature can be sticky about humorous names.

Well, he likes having me rub his belly, but I wouldn’t lay odds on letting anyone else do it these days. He’s getting nastier as he gets older.

Can’t get him shaved. I’d have to have him sedated, and the vet won’t do that without bloodwork. Overall cost, upwards of $200. I think I’ll pass. ‘Course, he has mats right now that he’s not letting me get to. Time for the flannel shirt and gloves treatment, I think.

I just want to bury my fingers in that long, soft fur and give him a big scritch. He’ probably hate that.

We have a longhair and we shaved him for the summer. He looks ridiculous but seems quite cool and comfortable.
