I think you’re right, factually. However, as a matter of principle: why should Israel do that? What the blazes did we set up a sovereign state of our own for? We want to do things at our convenience, and the Zeropeans can just take a walk.

in other words israeli democracy is supposed to take a back seat to the german desire for israeli concessions

essentially this has been the european and american position for quite some time… especially with Clinton’s aggressive interference in israeli elections
