Many members of ZAKA are what many consider “ultra-orthodox” – earlocks, black suits and hats, etc. That is why Meshi-Zahav said that they took off Friedman’s hat and coat so that he would not look Jewish. Essentially, Friedman has been forcibly rejected by his own.
