Too many people would have simply taken his words as fact, instead of the mutterings of an anti-semitic, psychopath. The sad truth is that anyone reading that letter hoping to find a reasonable man… would agree with much of what he said.

Certainly the writer and editors at the AP agree with their opening paragraph despite their sparse use of quotation marks.
