The union president wrote an article trying to justify it. I don’t think he deliberately wrote a pack of lies, he’s just seriously misinformed. You can read it here.

They very carefully did not say what the vote actually was. Remember that in the British Academic Union (forgot the exact name) case, an overwhelming majority of the actual members objected very strongly to the “activists” who attended the convention in order to pass the motion.
