The Quartet expresses its concern that settlement expansion elsewhere must stop, and Israel must remove unauthorized outposts. The Quartet continues to note with concern the route of the Israeli separation barrier, particularly as it results in the confiscation of Palestinian land, cuts off the movement of people and goods, and undermines Palestinians’ trust in the Roadmap process as it appears to prejudge the final borders of a Palestinian state.

Talk about double-standards—the Quartet worries about Israel “appear[ing] to prejudge the final borders,” but refers to disputed territory as “Palestinian land.” There’s some real prejudgement going on here, and it’s not on Israel’s part.

Note the word “must.” It only appears in that one paragraph of the document, and is effectively addressed only to Israel. The PA “should” do this and is urged to do that, but only Israel gets dictated to.

And, of course, the Quartet “expresses its appreciation for the responsible behavior of the Palestinian Authority and people for helping maintain a peaceful environment during the evacuation.” No mention of the destruction of the synagogues, the massive influx of terrorists and weapons across the Egyptian border, or the looting.

After the release of the statement, Secretary Rice condoned the participation of HAMAS in the elections, because after all the Palestinians are in transition to democracy, and these things can’t be rushed.

Yup, Disengagement really changed the momentum in Israel’s favor. The ball’s in the PA’s court to perform or else, and Palestinians won’t be getting any more free passes for their outrages.
