Because name-calling is such a great way to make your point: This column in Ha’aretz is titled “Every Jewish mother’s nightmare.” What, that their son/daughter intermarry and don’t raise the children in the faith? That they should, God forbid, die an early death? That they can’t live a long and happy life? No. It’s that they became a Republican. You know what? Not funny. Despicable. And oh yeah, just to make the point even worse: They picture Dean at a gun show, holding a camo rifle. Because guns are even worse than Republicans. Hey, Jewish moms out there? I voted Republican in the last two presidential elections and I own a rifle and a pistol and am looking to buy a shotgun. Fear me!

A true fifth columnist: An Arab-Israeli member of the Knesset talks about how the shahid is the true hero of Palestinians. Well, at least he’s being truthful–he’s for the terrorists, not for Israel.

“They are the shahids who the occupier calls terrorists and we say are fighting for the homeland,” Tibi said during his speech.

But Israeli is an apartheid state, where the Arabs aren’t allowed to vote or take part in politics… oh. Wait. And of course, he denies that he meant he supports suicide bombers. Yeah. Sure.

It’s time for the annual Israel stomp: The UN released its annual report on the condition of Palestinian human rights. Did it point out that women in Ramallah are going on a hunger strike to protest the treatment of women in the Palestinian territories? No. Did it point out that Hamas is no longer letting men cut women’s hair, that Christians can’t worship freely, and that women are being forced to wear “modest” clothing? Nope. What it did do was call the Israeli blockade of Gaza “collective punishment” and go over the list of things that mean, mean Israel is doing to the pure, innocent Palestinians. No mention of that by Ban Ki-Moon, but he sure did go overboard telling the Israelis to freeze settlements.

The Jewish National Fund: Protecting Israelis from snipers. Give generously. The JNF is working with the IDF to plant trees around Israeli border towns to prevent snipers from having easy access to targets. Tell me, what other nation in the world needs to do anything like this? And of course, the mainstream media will ignore this story completely.

The AP whitewashes the Muslim Brotherhood’s attitude on Israel:. But of course they do.

Say, Karl Vick, are you SURE Hamas is moderating? I’m thinking that Karl Vick (rhymes with “dick”) ((cf. Time Magazine’s infamous “Menachem Begin*” (rhymes with “Fagin”) issue)) is, well, wrong about Hamas becoming more moderate due to its dealings with the Palestinian Authority. Why do I think that? Hm. Let’s think. Oh, right. Because the head of Hamas, during the Hamas anniversary celebration, said this:

“The armed resistance and the armed struggle are our only choice to liberate the land, to liberate all of Palestine from the sea to the river and expel the invaders,” Ismail Haniyeh, the top Hamas leader in Gaza, told the crowd. He was referring to the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.

I really like the way the Bloomberg News reporter put in the explanation of which sea and which river. It’s very helpful to people like Karl Vick (rhymes with “dick”), who seem unable to interpret words like “armed struggle” and “armed resistance” as, well, non-peaceful things.

Even more suspicious: The Jerusalem Post quoted Haniyeh on the “liberation” of Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque. For those of you who may not know where that is (just in case Karl Vick needs a little brushing up), that mosque is built directly on top of the Temple Mount complex–Judaism’s holiest site.

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday called for the formation of an Arab army “to liberate Jerusalem and the Aksa Mosque very soon.”

Huh. An Arab army. Whoever could they mean? The new Islamist governments joining Hamas, perhaps?

I’m so glad Hamas is “edging closer to the mainstream” (the headline on Vick’s piece). Why, he all but declared Hamas to coming to an end of violence.

But in the Gaza Strip where it governs, Hamas has largely enforced a truce with Israel since January 2009. And in Cairo it signed a paper committing itself to “popular resistance” against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. That’s “popular” in contrast to “violent” or “military” resistance. We’re talking marches here. Chanting and signs, not booby traps or suicide bombs.

And yet, Khaled Abu Toameh, writing in the Post, quotes Ismail Haniyeh as not wanting to chant and wave signs at all.

Addressing tens of thousands of supporters during a rally in Gaza City marking the 24th anniversary of the founding of Hamas, Haniyeh said his movement remained committed to armed struggle as a strategic option to liberate “all the occupied Palestinian territories,” and that Hamas, “together with all the free peoples, will lead the fight to liberate all Palestine.”

Oh, yeah–Hamas also released statistics on the number of attacks on Israel, the number of Israelis they killed, and the number of Hamas members killed by Israel. Yep. That is one peace-loving organization. Interestingly, Karl Vick is so far silent on the Hamas rally. I’m on absolute pins and needles to see what Vick says about his theory that Hamas is ready to sit down and sing Kumbayah with Israel.

This was really just a joke. Timing is all, you know how it goes…

However, now it appears to be a prophetic one:

Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah has made fundamental changes in his personal security arrangements to avoid being killed like Osama Bin Laden, Arab newspaper reported.

Lebanese sources, quoting the Kuwaiti daily El-Siyassa, said that Nasrallah has moved recently from his residence in Southern Beirut to another place.

According to the Kuwaiti paper, some Western intelligence agencies proposed assassinating Nasrallah, to weaken “the world terrorism organisational structure” as well as “seizing Iranian influence in the region”.

The sources added that the disappeariance of Nasrallah from the scene would destroy Hizbullah, leaving it but an idea bereft of life.

I hope that the new bunker is fit for habitation, at least. And equipped with a tanning bed or something, they have some cool tanning beds on Amazon.

The reason I am mentioning the tanning bed is that the poor coot is looking* very pale after all these years underground:

Need to take more care of yourself, Hassan!

(*)The image is borrowed from a site here, where the guy peddles Nasrallah’s pictures as wallpaper for your computer. Highly recommended, if you are into wallpaper with images of the undead.

Oh, and happy Independence Day!

Some wit in Australia has an excellent editorial about the Marrickville town council’s stupendously stupid effort to boycott Israeli products (at the cost of $3.7 million Australian).

Kudos to the author, to whom I grant an honorary Master of Juvenile Scorn:

Other Sydney councils, strangely enough, have not followed Marrickville’s principled example, and its lone voice – although important and widely respected – may not be enough to persuade members of the Israeli government to stop whatever it is they have been doing. Marrickville boots on the ground would certainly show them that Sydney’s inner west is not to be trifled with. On balance, though, we think that in the first phase, diplomacy deserves a chance before Marrickville lives are put in harm’s way. As a back-up, the municipality might show a hint of steel by stationing a taskforce comprising the entire waste disposal department off the Israeli coast, ready to bang Israeli bins together at a moment’s notice. Services in Marrickville may be disrupted, but ratepayers can be confident they will be keeping the Israelis awake at night.

Oh, and it’s pretty likely now that the boycott will not go through. The BDS movement suffers another defeat. You’d think they’d learn from them. But Israel Derangement Syndrome knows no bounds.

Libyan troops are massacring protesters. Bodies are lying in the streets. The arms that Ghaddafy is using to murder his countrymen? Supplied by Britain and Italy. Hezbollah is now deeply intertwined with the Mexican drug cartels, teaching them advanced bomb-making skills (and sending sleeper agents here to threaten Americans).

The Iranians are crushing their citizens’ skulls again. Word is that Hezbollah imports are doing much of the beatdowns.

The UN Security Council resolution on Israeli settlements was sponsored by Lebanon, now nearly fully Iran’s client state. And Iranian ships are passing through the Suez Canal for the first time since 1979. (And sure, they’re not carrying weapons. They’re just going to stop in Lebanon for the tourist attractions.)

But the major problem needing fixing in the Middle East today? Why, of course, it’s the Israeli-Palestinian issue. No peace in Israel, no peace in Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, etc., etc., etc. The UN condemns Israel at every opportunity.

Seriously?

The European Union is telling Israel that growing instability in the Middle East makes it imperative to immediately resume the stalled peace process with the Palestinians.

Hungary’s foreign minister Janos Martonyi, whose country currently chairs the EU, told his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday that time is pressing and that the Israeli-Palestinian talks remain the core issue.

A Palestinian state would have stopped Ghaddafy from firing on his people? It would have stopped the Iranians from bashing in the heads of democracy protesters? It would have stopped the rest of the Middle East from rising up against their autocratic rulers and demanding freedom? That’s what the establishment of a Palestinian state would have done?

I think I’m going to call bullshit on that. Yes, I most definitely am. (Insert several eye rolls here.)

Morons.

Now that the Middle East is engulfed in chaos in three nations—Tunisia, Egypt, and Yemen, with Jordan possibly right behind—it has utterly proven the theory that if only Israel and the Palestinians were at peace, the problems of the Middle East would be solved.

Just think: If there were a Palestinian state, living in peace, side by side with Israel, Egyptians wouldn’t be trying to overthrow the government.

Just think: If there were a Palestinian state, living in peace, side by side with Israel, Tunisians wouldn’t have overthrown the government.

Just think: If there were a Palestinian state, living in peace, side by side with Israel, Yemenis wouldn’t be trying to overthrow the government.

You see? It’s all the fault of the Jews that the Middle East is what it is. Damned intransigent Israelis. They’re totally screwing up the peaceful Middle East.
