All the sad Democrats

Let us take a moment to wipe a tear from our eye and comfort all of the sad Democrats out there today.

Naaaah. They wouldn’t give a shit if the situation were reversed.

The next two years are going to be interesting. Not that Obama is affected at all by this. He’s not. As always, he blames everything but his own actions for the losses.

Writing in the age of Zero Tolerance

You’ll want to read this post over on my writing blog, I think.

The first line is “I’m pretty sure the first story I ever wrote would have gotten me arrested today.”

No wonder she was in Hufflepuff: A stupid actress is calling Israel stupid and saying that Israel causes anti-Semitism. But it’s okay, she can do that because she’s Jewish, you see. And listen to her brilliant explanation:

“I’m lucky they like me, and one always needs a Jewish accountant,” said Margolyes, who grew up in a Jewish home in Oxford, England, adding that “anti-Semitism is horrible and can’t be defended, but Israel is stupid for allowing people to vent it.”

Moron. You’re “lucky” that people like you in spite of being Jewish? Screw you, Margoyles, and every Jew who thinks like you. Let’s do an experiment. Exchange “Asian” for “Jew” and “Jewish” in all of her words, and see how fast she gets called a racist.

Two more years of this crap: The Obama administration is now making sure its childish behavior is worldwide knowledge. A “Senior Administration Official” said that Netanyahu didn’t/wouldn’t attack Iran because he’s “chickenshit“. This, from the same administration that worked very hard to make sure that Israel couldn’t attack Iran when it thought there were plans in place. And let’s not forget that more than 80% of American Jews voted for Obama. Remember that when you see his administration signing off on an anti-settlement UN Resolution. Also remember that Mahmoud Abbas only last week urged his people to start a religious war on the Temple Mount–and Obama said nothing. Because that isn’t what’s preventing peace. It’s building settlements in areas of Jerusalem that are going to remain Israeli even if a two-state solution magically occurs.

More on that “chickenshit” bullshit: Read Jonathan Tobin’s post in Commentary. Here’s just a snippet:

It’s quite an indictment but once you get beyond the personal dislike of the individual on the part of the president, Secretary of State Kerry, and any other “senior officials” that speak without attribution on the subject of Israel’s prime minister, all you have is a thin veil of invective covering up six years of Obama administration failures in the Middle East that have the region more dangerous for both Israel and the United States. For all of his personal failings, it is not Netanyahu—a man who actually served as a combat soldier under fire in his country’s most elite commando unit—who is a coward or a small-minded failure. It is Obama and Kerry who have fecklessly sabotaged a special relationship, an act whose consequences have already led to disaster and bloodshed and may yet bring worse in their final two years of power.

Obama is turning out to be even worse than Jimmy Carter, in every way possible. I fear for my country these next two years.

Around the news

Deborah Lipstadt on past and current anti-Semitism: Best quote from the lecture? “Anti-Semitism is a vile form of hatred. It starts with the Jews, but it never stops there.”

The political echo chamber: A Pew study shows that liberals are more likely to block you over your political views than conservatives. I can attest to that.

But they know all the Kardashians: Two-thirds of Americans can’t name a single Supreme Court Justice.

Another victim of terrorism dies: A second victim of last week’s terror attack died of her injuries today. She was 22. Reminder: The State Department called it a “traffic incident“. Right. Deliberately plowing a car into a rush hour train station is a “traffic incident”. Oh, and the attacks are ongoing. Arabs are throwing stones at the light rail trains and molotov cocktails at, well, anyone.

The year went by so quickly

One year ago, I brought home a little Siamese-tabby mix that was being called Lily. Her name quickly changed to Meimei, and I discovered that she was a month older than they guessed she was when she went into heat at what we thought was only four months (nope, it was five or more).

She’s been a delight both to me and Tig. They play together pretty much every day, and she’s slowly but surely sneaking closer and closer to him as he sleeps. More often than not, I wake up with two cats in my bed. And if Meimei was bored, there are also two or three cat toys as well.

Here’s a fairly recent picture of the two of them. May we have many more years together.

The AP: Don’t worry terrorists, we got your back

A few people caught this despicable headline from the AP yesterday (shamelessly stolen from TOI):

Anti-Israel AP headline

That’s their take on a terror attack that resulted in the death of a three-month-old child.

A three-month-old girl, identified by her grandfather as Chaya Zissel, was killed and several US citizens and Israelis were wounded Wednesday evening when a convicted Palestinian terrorist from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan rammed his vehicle into a crowd of people in the capital.

The attack, which was captured by a security camera, took place at the Ammunition Hill light-rail stop a few hundred meters from Israel’s national police headquarters, situated across a densely traveled thoroughfare, shortly after 6 p.m., a senior police official said.

The terrorist was shot by police and late Wednesday evening he died in hospital.

Take that in for a moment. It was rush hour. The terrorist deliberately plowed his car into a crowd of civilians exiting or waiting for a crowded train. So what are the AP headlines?

Baby killed in Jerusalem car attack
A Palestinian with a history of anti-Israel violence slammed his car into a crowded railway station in Jerusalem, killing a three-month-old baby girl and wounding eight people in what police called a terror attack.

The headline makes it sound like the car attacked the people. Just imagine if an Israeli Jew–say, a “settler”–had lost control of his car and slammed into a crowd of Palestinians, accidentally killing one. Imagine the 24-hour coverage, the world media headlines, and the opprobrium heaped on Israel. Here, you have to work to find out the facts by getting past crap like this:

The violence came after months of tensions between Jews and Palestinians in east Jerusalem – the section of the city the Palestinians demand as their future capital. The area has experienced unrest and near-daily attacks on the city’s light rail by Palestinian youths since a wave of violence over the summer, capped by a 50-day war between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.

You know what else the violence came after? A constant stream of violence by Palestinians against Jews in Jerusalem that the news media is ignoring.

There has been a constant stream of attacks against Jews in Jerusalem since the Gaza war. There is now talk of a third “intifada”, but let’s face it–it’s not uprising, it’s war by another name. They’re not protesting being “occupied”. They’re protesting the presence of Jews. Mahmoud Abbas is using the language of Hamas, saying that Jews are “desecrating” Muslim holy sites. And the world utterly ignores him.

Abbas said it was not enough for Palestinians to say that “settlers” have come to the Temple Mount.

“We should all remain present at the Noble Sanctuary [Temple Mount],” he added.

“We must prevent them from entering the Noble Sanctuary in any way. This is our Al-Aksa and our church. They have no right to enter and desecrate them. We must confront them and defend our holy sites.”

This is why the Palestinians are rioting on a daily basis. Because there are no moderate Palestinians. There is no wish for peace, no wish to share the land. They lie about the 3,000-year history of Judaism in the land of Israel in order to make it seem like Muslims have some right to the historic homeland of the Jews.

And the results? Terror attacks that murder three-month-old babies. While the AP covers for the terrorists and tries to blame Israel.

Pat Condell, still going strong

I could spend hours on his YouTube channel. Pat Condell is a British atheist who regularly makes videos in support of Israel and Jews. He also goes to town on Islamists, though he doesn’t use that term. If you’ve never seen any of his videos before, here’s a good place to start.

It’s been too long

I haven’t put a recent Meimei picture up here in a while. There are some over on my writing blog. But here, let’s have some Meimei pics.

Meimei is pretty much all grown up. She will have been here a year next week, which makes her about 15 months old. It’s been a delightful year.

The AP is now completely covering for Palestinian rejectionism

Can the AP whitewash utterly reprehensible Palestinian statements any more than this?

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas suggested on Friday that Jews should be banned from a Jerusalem holy site revered by both Jews and Muslims.

“Suggested”? Really?

In a speech quoted by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, Abbas said Jewish “settlers” should be prevented from entering the site “by any means.”

“This is our Noble Sanctuary … they have no right to enter and desecrate it,” Abbas added.

That is outright religious hatred. He’s not talking about the mosque. He’s talking about the entire Temple Mount. You know, the holiest site in Judiasm. And “suggested”? really? You know what a suggestion is? “Hey, I think you should try putting a purple streak in your hair and see how it looks.” That’s a suggestion.

This? This is outright saying Jews have no right to their own holy place. No right to the site where both Temples stood, where the Ark of the Covenant resided, where Jewish priests blew the shofar on Rosh Hashanah–the site, in fact, where Judaism was practiced for centuries before Islam existed. This is part of the Palestinian strategy to pretend that the area was wholly Muslim and Jews have nothing to do with it. It is, straight out, a lie. And the AP calls it a suggestion.

But this wouldn’t be an AP whitewash if they couldn’t also blame the Israelis for the Palestinians’ despicable behavior.

Abbas made the comments following recent clashes between Palestinian worshippers and Israeli forces over what Palestinians see as Jewish encroachment on the site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.

Palestinians have bveen attacking Israelis nonstop on the Temple Mount. Palestinians are paid to attack Israelis on the Temple Mount. It’s a regular terror strategy of Hamas.

Meantime, you know what the AP completely ignored? Palestinians defaced the Temple Mount with anti-Semitic graffiti. They spray-pained a swastika on the holiest Jewish site in existence.

Nice work, AP. Screw your biased reporters and your biased editors. And screw the Palestinians, too. They’re never going to kick us off the Temple Mount again.

Taylor Swift’s new Diet Coke commercial is cute and funny. That won’t stop the haters, but it’s a nice little break from the news.

A quick outrage roundup

A few of the news items that are pissing me off today:

Can you say, “First Amendment”? Apparently, they can’t: Houston city attorneys subpoena five pastors’ sermons, asking for anything that discusses “HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity”. Eugene Volokh explains how it’s done if you actually need to subpoena speech that might, you know, actually be valid in a lawsuit, like, say, a libel suit. As opposed to intimidating pastors who don’t agree with you. Really? Really? Going after people for their religious beliefs? Really?

AWESOME work, CDC: It’s not enough that the Dallas hospital staff did not use hazmat clothing for the first two days they were treating an Ebola patient. The CDC told a nurse reporting a low fever that it was okay to fly with it. Because it’s not, like, she was a nurse treating an Ebola patient who just came down with a fever–one of the symptoms of Ebola. Fucking unbelievable. And oh, the president is finally doing something. The optics must finally be polling poorly. He canceled a couple of campaigning trips to make a speech, or something.

Something is terribly wrong when that hospital in Dallas exposed its staff to Ebola, but the one in Atlanta treated patients without any transmission of the disease. They’re supposed to have been trained in this. Great work, CDC! But hey, it’s really important to spend money on why chimpanzees throw objects.

Well, then you’re going to be living in tents for a long time: The new propaganda line is out. The Palestinians are now saying that they can’t rebuild Gaza until the blockade is lifted. Uh-huh. That little detail about Hamas importing weapons? Pshaw. It’s much more important to give the Palestinians money without making sure that terrorists don’t profit from it.

Never too old to learn: An 86-year-old Jewish man who didn’t get a chance to go to high school because he was too busy hiding from the Nazis finally got his high school diploma in the U.S. Mazel tov!

So what have I been up to these last few months?

Well, there were a few posts here and there. I published book two in The Catmage Chronicles. I’m working on book 3. I went to Water Country, USA with my nephew (we had a ton of fun). My Jeep Wrangler hit 200,000 miles. I went to San Diego for my cousin’s daughter’s wedding (which was wonderful). I watched Meimei grow up to be a whole 6 pounds, three ounces. She’s pretty much topped out. I have one giant Maine Coon mix who is 19 pounds and losing weight, because he’s on a diet. And I have a tiny tabby/Siamese mix. The days here have gotten very amusing.

Tig and Meimei

They play a lot. Tig has never learned to control his bite, though, and Meimei is letting him know when he’s too much. She runs away. Or I yell at him. Or both. She loves her big brother, though. In the picture above, Meimei crawled under the afghan to try to get Tig to play. He ignored her. So she decided to take a nap with him.

It wasn’t a very exciting summer, but it was nice. And now it’s autumn in Richmond, and my blog is back, and I’m starting to think this was just what the doctor ordered. I’ve been a bit down in the dumps lately. Today seems like the horizon just opened up wide and beckoned me to come on down.

Britain and Israel, the hate-hate relationship

There was a symbolic vote by the U.K. Parliament to recognize the fictional state of Palestine. Fewer than half the MPs were present, and most of Israel’s supporters were missing. It was also a completely contradictory vote:

I want a two state solution as much as the next person, but I’m not quite sure what this motion will achieve other than offering false hope to the Palestinian people. For a start, it is non-binding on the government and is unlikely to have any effect on UK foreign policy towards Israel in the short term. No clear timetable for recognition was actually set. Furthermore, an amendment emphasised that recognition must come “as a contribution to securing a negotiated two-state solution”; this is despite the motion imposing the kind of unilateralism and preconditions that were excluded from the Oslo peace process and the road map discussions.

In other words, it was pure theater. Unfortunately, it was theater with a purpose. The anti-Israel side can score this as a huge victory, because most people will have no idea that it was a non-binding vote by a minority the voting members of Parliament. And now France is making rumbles about having their own vote. Mahmoud Abbas is doing a celebratory dance today, I’m sure.

The vote in the U.K. came on the heels of one of the worst spikes in anti-Semitic attacks in history. And oh, yeah–it’s not just because of the Gaza War. It has continued unabated since the war ended. And during the vote, one of the MP’s raised the tired old “Jewish Lobby controls America” trope.

Gee. I wonder if there’s some kind of connection between the drum of constant anti-Israel messages and attacks on Jews. Hm. Let’s think about that.

Meanwhile, my advice to British Jews? GTFO. Come to America, come to Israel. Leave the British Isles, just like my great-grandfather did. The merging of the anti-Semitic far left and far right has begun. Things are going to get much worse there.

I’m back. Did you miss me?

I got tired of blogging earlier this year. I pretty much quit. Thought that was the end of it, I’d stop posting my thoughts about Israel and Jewish issues and politics and cats. Okay, never cats. Figured I’d just start my writing blog up, talk about writing and daily life. Yeah, that went well. Not.

So I’m back. There are so many issues in the world today that are pissing me off, and I’m tired of annoying my friends and relatives on Facebook with my politics, so I’m going to post here again. And I’m probably going to say “fuck” a lot more.

Part of the reason I quit? I thought I should keep a lower profile for my writing career. I want people to buy my books, and lots of people won’t buy your books if you hold political views they don’t care for. You know what?

Fuck those people.

If you’re not going to buy my books because you don’t like the way I think about Israel, fuck you.

If you’re not going to buy my books because I’m Jewish, fuck you.

If you’re not going to buy my books because you don’t like my politics, fuck you.

If you’re not going to buy my books because you don’t like me, well, okay. That’s your choice. But fuck you for not liking me. Because I am a thoroughly likeable person.

So, yeah, let’s just consider the last four months an extremely long vacation from blogging. I’m back, and I’m not going to hold back anymore.

I was one of the first Jbloggers. I started my blog before Instapundit started his. April 22, 2001. That was the date of my first post. Blogging–I can’t quit you.

Oh, and buy my fucking books.
