Wednesday news roundup

And yet, in every generation, another enemy tries to destroy us: Marc Tracy in The Tablet on why Iran isn’t Haman, and how the world isn’t trying to destroy Israel. That’s a false choice, though. The whole world isn’t trying. Just a fair-sized part of it.

But they really want peace. No, really. After they’re done killing all the Jews, that’s the peace they want. The peace of the grave. Yet another Palestinian stabbing attack foiled.

Bibi at AIPAC: Watch the speech, if you haven’t already. I watched the pre-speech conference. There is no love at all between Obama and Netanyahu. Not a single smile from the president. But he has Israel’s back. No, really.

Except for the shaming part, I’d so pay money to see this: Rush Limbaugh vs. Rachel Maddow? I’m there. And by the way–when did your birth control become my problem? Buy it yourself. And there’s no way in hell she has to pay $1,000 a year for birth control. I’ve been there, I’ve done that, and $20 a month was the most I ever paid–out of my own pocket, because insurance didn’t cover the Pill back then. Goddamned entitled spoiled brats. Get a job, and shut up. (Why yes, I’m having HulkMS today. Why do you ask?)

Really, I wasn’t going to believe the story anyway: I read this Guardian story yesterday and wondered how accurate it could be, since it said that Hamas wouldn’t be Iran’s bitch in a war with Israel and wouldn’t join in. Well, today, Hamas said there’s no way they wouldn’t join in a war on Iran’s side.

A top Hamas official rejected Wednesday reports that the militant group would stay out of an armed conflict between Israel and Iran, saying that if indeed such a war erupts Hamas will retaliate with “utmost power.”

Of course they will. Because why would they let the hated Zionist enemy have an unprotected flank instead of achieving their dream of destroying the Jewish state? The Guardian used a second, anonymous source to confirm the named source, who is obviously part of the Hamas Big Lie Division that’s attempting to convince the anti-Israel media that Hamas wants to be a part of a moderate (stop laughing) Islamist government, just like the one in Egypt (really, stop laughing). Yep, my bullshit detector is still running in top form.

Speaking to the semi-official Iranian news agency Fars on Wednesday, top Hamas figure Mahmoud Zahar refuted a similar report apparently broadcast by BBC’s Persian website, saying: “Retaliation with utmost power is the position of Hamas with regard to a Zionist war on Iran.”

Yep.

The comment from Obama gave me a vision of a Dry Bones cartoon with that caption. Bibi is standing with a side view and Obama is standing there with a knife in his hand. Alternatively, we see the knife in Bibi’s back and Obama saying “I’ve got your back” with his hand on the knife.

It was for this reason that I said, during Operation Cast Lead, that Israel had to go in and completely destroy Hamas in Gaza. They didn’t, and now Israel is still threatened by Hamas as well as Hezbollah and Iran. The strategy of the Central Position requires that you actually defeat piecemeal the enemy surrounding you, not leave them slightly damaged to recover and threaten you again another day. Same thing with Hezbollah in 2006.
