Sunday NJ briefs

Oh, didn’t I mention I was in New Jersey?

Nose to nose: This looks really neat. The Israeli embassy in New Zealand was reopened with a Maori nose-pressing ceremony. Looks like the Maoris like Israelis better than the Kiwis do.

But what’s the expiration date? The Obama administration is telling the Palestinians not to expect the Obama Middle East Peace Plan (and you totally know they’re going to call it the Obama Plan) until there are direct negotiations with Israel. Sure, that’s what he says today. But every Obama promise has an expiration date.

Rockets still landing in Israel, world still not caring: So what if it’s only one rocket a month? After all, they’re crude, homemade, and rarely actually kill anyone.

  1. Think Of England says:

Israel has only itself to blame if no one cares about the rockets. If every rocket got a violent response and if every rocket got something before the Security Council or other groups, things might be different. As it is, Israel acts as if they don’t matter very much. If I ran Israel, I would shut off power and water to Gaza one day for each rocket.

why don’t you concentrate on good news for a change?

Good news and very big news indeed

In other news, a new dry cleaner down the street from us was opened with a pants-pressing ceremony.

As a former Kiwi I can emphatically state that the embassy reopening after the long nightmare of Helen Clark’s regime (now running at the UNDP) is a welcome and overdue pleasure. It was Clark’s Foreign Minister (the current leader of the Labour opposition – spit!) who embraced and walked hand in hand with Arafat in his rathole compund during the last Intifada. The NZ Prime Minister now needs to clean out, root and branch, the Arabist NZ Foreign Ministry.
