Good on you Omega. Thanks.
During the 2006 Lebanon War I defended Israel's actions in the class I was taking, Arabic.

The academics in America are an insidious bunch like the leeches in a pit. Especially the ones in "public" institutions. Was in a 4-yr public university some five years ago where I heard plenty of Anti-Semitic propaganda on a regular basis. My major was Agri-business management, one would think how ugly can it get--got bashed and booed whenever I took stand for Israel. Did'nt stop me from voicing my opinion openly and unapologetically. Needless to say I was passed over for all good paying internships, job leads etc. Never got hired for a job in my field even though I live in the smack middle of "the bread basket of the world". As for the boycott, we ought to boycott the academics who speak with poison tongue against Israel and right on Jack!

You can almost sense the panic which must have descended on this idiot when asked if, given America's role in Iraq, logic wouldn't dictate that he would have to boycott himself. Hmmm, now there's a paradox for you Dr. Lloyd. Perhaps you could solve it if you were a professor of Mathematics. Lloyd replies, "Self-boycott is a difficult concept to realize. But speaking for myself, I would have supported and honored such a boycott had it been proposed by my colleagues overseas." Just too funny.

Let's see if we can put this into syllogistic form. I'm sure a bunch of academics would appreciate that.
Hamas wants to destroy Israel and carry out a genocide of the Jews.
Lloyd and his pals support Hamas.
Therefore Lloyd and his pals support genocide of the Jews. This is antisemitism. QED
The only possible problem is, do they support Hamas. Well, they want to harm Israel (through a boycott of Israeli academics, which they presumably think would harm Israel or they would not propose it as a retaliation for Israel's alledged misdeeds) in retaliation for Israel's harm to Hamas. I'd say that counts as supporting Hamas.

Well as a native Californian allow me to start the movement to kick these academics out of California.
They are completely unreasonable and have refused to engage in dialogue about their actions. Most importantly they don't play as I want them to so we need to throw their sorry asses into the sea.
Alternatively they can go live in the middle of Death Valley. The desert would do them good this time of year.

In the U.S., anti-Israel opinion is clearly driven by people who consider themselves intellectuals or who identify with intellectuals. If you imagine an American in which there is no PBS, no NPR, no NYT, and no university graduate programs outside the hard sciences, that would be an American in which support for Israel would be far stronger than it is today.
It's often been noted that Christian Evangelicals are usually strong supporters of Israel, and this is usually put down to theological beliefs. But I think a stronger factor is that most Evangelicals are members of social groups that are pretty much outside the force field of opinion which is centered on the academy.
