I watched Walid Phares be interviewed by a very pretty, very spacey young woman for FOX News, shortly after we went into Iraq. She was a parody of a valley girl newsanchor. I was cringing. Phares was extremely gracious, but seemed a little freaked out by her complete lack of knowledge of the history, iconography, or indeed basic physics, of the Middle East.

The Flower Children of the 1960s became the high school and college teachers of the 1990s, and the students of the 1990s are the talking heads and Highly Educated Professional Journalists of today.
Hopey new year.

Amb Mansour has been in Atlanta long enough that we are proud to be able to call him "ours." He is a gentleman and absolute scholar, and one of the nicest, most genuine folks around. The nitwits at Foggy Bottom should learn from him.
The Crackpot News Network (also, I am embarrassed to say, based in Atlanta) makes me meshuganah. When we travel I avoid CNN-Int'l because it gives me indigestion.
As to the amateur who did the interview: maybe she should join the party I want to throw at Sderot with Cynthia McKinney, Cindy Sheehan, Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, the King of Jordan, John Dingell, and, of course, "Hot Legs" Cwis Matthews, and Robert Fisk. And maybe then they will shut up a while and listen to the howling missiles that came from our friends through the Philaphi tunnels.
