In response to Kahn. What claim do the Palestinians actually have to Gaza and the West Bank? Why doesn't the Muslim world take the poor Palestinians into their countries and leave that land to Israel? It could be easily done and solve the problem and provide a defensible border for Israel. After all the current situation is not ideal except as a means to the end of destroying Israel which is what they all want. Which is why they will never go for my idea.

Well the democratically elected Hamas government is making war on Israel, so in that case Israel is allowed, by the principles of International Law, to make war back. The Palis of Gaza knew when they voted for Hamas that they were voting for war, Hamas made no secret that war was its aim. So the Palis voted for war. Thus whatever suffering Israel inflicts on them in response to Hamas' warmaking is something the Palis implicitly accepted when they voted Hamas in. All these apologists for the genocidal Palis have no leg to stand on in their protests when you consider those facts. And Israel has been quite moderate in its warmaking, probably too moderate. Is anyone in any doubt that if the shoe was on the other foot, with Jews in Gaza making terrorist attacks on Muslims in the territory of Israel, there would now be no living Jews left in Gaza?
What the cretins such as these respondents do not consider is that the war could stop if the Arabs just stopped their attacks on Israel, stopped trying to destroy Israel and kill the Jews. If they did so the Arabs would have nothing to fear from Israel, except of course the embarassment that Israel is a modern, 21st Century state and a democracy with an economy that works reasonably well in the midst of the squalor and backward tyrannies of the surrounding Arab states. I think that is a key aspect of this never ending conflict: it is fueled, at least in part, by the overblown vanity of the Muslims. How dare a bunch of wretched dhimmis rule themselves among the Muslims? How dare they defeat the Atabs, the best of Men (the Prophet said they were dontcherknow)? The affront is intolerable. Israel's existence is an affront to that gigantically excessive vanity, and the Jews cannot be forgiven for that.
The affront to Muslim vanity can be assuaged by no act of Israel's, by no peace terms, by no land swaps, by no actions of the USA or the UN or anybody else. Only Jewish blood will take it away. Civilized people of righteous moral principles will reject this remedy. Alas, there seem to be fewer and fewer such people in the world every year.

One of your respondents referred to a trope I've seen frequently since the Gaza elections, namely that Gazans elected a government democratically and Israel should therefore deal with it.
OK, but Israel has elected a succssion of governments democratically, and I do not see the anti-Israel crowd urging Hamas to engage in a realistic and respectful manner with Israel.
I guess it's the Bensky Corollary again, what you call the Exception Clause. Democratic governments deserve respect, except when they're Jewish.

Long_rifle, he utterly slays me when he does that. Max and his siblings and I were watching that show on the Discovery Channel with the excitable guy who has to survive (complete with camera crew) in the wilderness for however long. And I started making fun of it, because he seemed to say "It's a disaster!" every five minutes. Then the kids picked it up with me, and now, when I least expect it, Max pipes up with "It's a disaster!" when I'm over and he's feeling mischievous.
But his imitation is so first-rate, it cracks me up every single time. It's going to be my go-to piece for every Palestinian disaster story from now on.

Awesome! You're getting idiots posting about MY replies? I just wish they had about 5 working brain cells capable of forming RATIONAL debates. It's just to easy arguing with these tarts.
And really, Max is great!

What continues to concern me, as I've mentioned in these pages before, is the rise of left anti-Zionism. If you go onto a place like Daily Kos, or any number of the smaller left blogs, you will find a number of highly vocal, concerted individuals who do little more than spend day after day bashing Israel.
My fear is that these people are having an effect and moving regular people, who really know virtually nothing about I/P, into the anti-Israel camp.

Meryl, when I read comments about Israel such as these, all I can say is, "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose."
I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that these cretins actually meant to say "Jews" instead of "Israel".

there is just a way too many anti-jewish crowd online. Most of them are Muslims.
The funny thing is that a lot of these Muslims have this victim mentality and when you talk to them they will claim Muslims are the "Jews" of the 21st century. However, when it comes to hating Jews they are the front warriors.
The problem is that there is not enough pro-jewish voice to counter anti-semitism.
