Syria had sovereignty from 1946 (when it became in independent state) to 1967. That's 21 years. Israel has controlled it for nearly double that time. Language is important. When people speak of land controlled by Israel in terms that indicate that they consider the land to be rightfully the possession of another state, it does not enhance peace, honesty, or Israel's security. “You only want to get your land back.” Well, they want to get some land back.
