Instead there are two problems: first, Witte evidently didn't want to tick off questioners, so rather than confront the more tendentious comments he got all analytical. Second, he was determined to maintain a journalistic "two sides to every issue" psuedo-objectivity, to the point of writing a platitude like "There are two peoples living on this land, and we cover both." It would have been a more interesting Q&A if Witte had simply stated his own opinions and then let the Post's readers decide if his opinions bias his reporting.
