OTOH, Persia has been a pain in the world's collective butt for two and a half millenia. From Xerxes forward, they've probably killed or enslaved more people than any other "civilization." (OK, OK, I know that word isn't a good one, but I don't have a thesaurus. The nice thing about nuclear weapons, as we ourselves have learned, is that you can debate their use for centuries, but you can't undo the damage! Or, Israel could simply mine their harbors, since they don't produce any of their own food, most of them would starve to death in a week...

One could argue against genocide, of course, but if nuking Berlin in 1939 would have prevented the Holocaust...

It may be lost on Lefty, but I can see the moral equivalence.

But on the other hand, there's a point to be made about it being better to strike the snake's head instead of his tail. Destroying Iran's war-making capacity is definitely better than just killing random civilians.

"[B]ut don’t you think that firing missiles into Iranian cities would be using 'proportionate' force against their enemy?"

Uh, no. I'd consider it an act of terrorism. Iranian missile factories and military units would be fair game, though.
