EATAPETA Meat-up
Y’know, I really don’t think I want to drive an hour there and back on Saturday.
You guys are going to have to give me a really good reason to come to Fredericksburg. I can celebrate EATAPETA Day here in Richmond just fine.
I’m getting a bit tired of driving long distances. Been spending a lot of time in the northern VA area lately.

Now that dailight “savings” time is here, it is too late to go all that way. Besides, the Shabbat meals should be sufficient.

Sabba’s got a point.
It’s a Jewish religious obligation to eat meat on Shabbat, so IEATAPETA Day is not just a fun way to stick it in PETA’s eye, it’s a Mitzvah!

Hey, I feel your pain. I commute to Fairfax from Stafford everyday. Sometime the idea of driving to Fredericksburg is too much for me…
Whatever you decide.

Sorry to hear it.
It’s probably way too late to organize something in Richmond for tomorrow, but maybe next year.
But on the plus side, if I’m eating at home, I can have a kosher hamburger.
Elisson: it’s really a custom, not an obligation. The custom comes from the Talmudic line “there is no happiness except with meat and wine”. This line refers specifically to the Temple sacrifices, not a general principle. By custom, we apply the phrase to our Shabbat meals, but it’s not an obligation. A vegetarian does not violate any laws by choosing to not eat meat on Shabbat.
As far as I know, the only actual obligation to eat meat is the Passover sacrifice, which (obviously) can’t be brought until the Temple is rebuilt.
