Hebrew corrections requested

Folks, I made up a prayer of thanks for every new day with Tig, and the person who helped me reminded me that we’re using modern Hebrew, not prayer Hebrew.

Any changes or corrections you experts would make?

Baruch atah adonai elohenu melech haolam shenatata li od yom echad im Tig sheli.

Sounds right to this part-time chazzan. Y’asher koach!

  2. Rahel Says:

I’d like to suggest a slightly different format that I’ve seen used in the sources for personal prayer:

Modah ani lefanekha, Ribon kol ha-olamim ve-Elohei kol basar, she-natata li od yom ehad im Tig sheli (or: im Tig, hatuli he-ahuv).

I thank you, Sovereign of all worlds and God of all living creatures (lit. “of all flesh”), for having given me another day with my Tig (or: with Tig, my beloved cat).

No corrections, just to tell you that it’s lovely.

FWIW, I would second Rahel’s suggestion. A bracha seems less apt than a prayer of thanks.

  5. Soccerdad Says:

I should add there’s nothing wrong with saying an appropriate chapter of Tehillim (Psalms).

I like Rahel’s formula…and, as Soccerdad suggests, it never hurts to throw in a few tehillim.
