Monbiot

Snoopy wrote thisThis picture summarizes for me the image of George Monbiot: in essence - a surprised imbecile. The picture, by the way, comes from a BBC article, so it could not be labeled an Elders’ Photoshop job.

His new article in CiF carries a headline that matches this picture just beautifully:

Give the man a candy, please. His ability to be surprised is rivaled only by his ability to construct logical chains of unmatched nincompoopery.

For starters, look no further than the beginning of that piece:

I believe that Bush and Brown - who maintain their nuclear arsenals in defiance of the non-proliferation treaty…

Could somebody explain to George what exactly the non-proliferation treaty is about? Well, one can try, no doubt…

But that was neither here nor there - just an appetizer. Now let’s see that chain of logic I have promised. Here George comes out with a statement:

But Israel under Olmert is also a dangerous and unpredictable state involved in acts of terror abroad.

Fine, ain’t it? Now let’s see how elegantly he proves it in a few easy steps:

Two months ago it bombed a site in Syria (whose function is fiercely disputed).

Syria, indeed, disputes everything fiercely - from the mere act of bombing to the function of the site. Nobody else, save Baby Assad diminutive NK buddy, seems to dispute much.

Last year, it launched a war of aggression against Lebanon.

Indeed? From “disproportional response” to “war of aggression”? Cool. He probably read some Hezbollah site the other day and forgot to reset his memory module at the time of writing this.

It remains in occupation of Palestinian lands.

Is it a sign of being unpredictable? Hmm… have to check my dictionary on this.

In February 2001, according to the BBC, it used chemical weapons in Gaza: 180 people were admitted to hospital with severe convulsions.

According to BBC… rather, according to late Yasser, he of the double tongue and the lovely imagination. Why not mention the depleted uranium, the bird flu, the genetically trained virus - all these reported by Yasser and his loyal (oh well…) spouse Suha? Duh…

In short - our dear surprised George easily leaves any village idiot standing. When he puts his mind to it, that is…

The chocolate course

Last year, due to Gracie’s illness and having to either board her or pay someone to come by twice a day to give her her pills, I stayed in Richmond for Thanksgiving instead of spending it in NJ with my family. As soon as I said I was staying, Sarah invited me to the G. house’s Thanksgiving dinner. I asked what I could contribute to the dinner. She wouldn’t let me contribute a thing. She’s a great cook, so I wasn’t about to argue. Especially when the word “tzimmes” was mentioned, a dish I’d always wanted to try to make myself. Instead, I went to a chocolatier in Richmond called For the Love of Chocolate. They have an astonishing selection of chocolate and candy from all over the world. I picked up some candy for the kids, plain chocolates for those of us who like plain chocolates (present!), various percentages of cacao to see just how dark we could go (much past the low 70s and it’s too bitter for Sarah and me, but not Larry), and a little of the sugary stuff for me (I have a major sweet tooth that is my caloric downfall). And that was when I wasn’t nearly as flush financially as I am today.

The result of all those chocolates became what we started calling “the chocolate course.” It came after the main course and the dessert course.

You should see the bag o’ chocolates in my pantry this year. That isn’t even including the Mallomars I picked up at Costco last week.

I bought enough for a gathering about two or three times our size, I think.

The chocolate course is going to take several meals to consume. Oh, well. The truffles will stay at the G. house. But the sponge comes home with me.

Israel turns the tables on the ICC

Israel is now using the ICC in ways, I’m sure, the UN never thought possible. Israeli organizations are bringing suit against Hamas for murdering Israeli citizens.

ZAKA, a volunteer organization committed to the recovery and identification of human remains, in coordination with the municipality of the rocket-battered city of Sderot, may be on to a new method for combating Hamas: The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

In a lawsuit against Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal, ZAKA’s directors Yehuda Meshi-Zahav and Dudi Zilbershlag and Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal argue that Mashaal is responsible for numerous murders and crimes against humanity and war crimes.

In the suit Mashaal is blamed for the killing of 176 civilians and the wounding of hundreds in Hamas-sponsored terror attacks and suicide bombings that took place since 2002. Attacks on military targets were not included in the lawsuit.

While I doubt the ICC will agree to any kind of sanctions against even a murderous terrorist group like Hamas, what with their being a Palestinian entity and the UN being utterly unable to acknowledge the Israeli right to live without fear of terrorism, at least it’s a poke in the eye to the UN and its Arab/Muslim controlling bloc.

At the very least, we will be able to watch Hamas and its supporters twist themselves into knots trying to explain how it’s okay to murder civilians riding on buses.
